And yet... this time your reply (containing *both* In-reply-to and References
headers, for the first time) threaded! Be it ever so curious, I withdraw my
question. Thanks for satisfying my curiosity.

BTW, my prior post used Reply-All (rather than Reply-List) because I was not
sure about how you were receiving. Now that I see Reply-List works for you,
that [my norm on this list] is what I'm using - so you won't see double ;-)

Thanks very much. While I stumbled and hicuped a bit, the first page /

organized more intuitively -- a RMB selector in the header space, for
instance -- but now at least I seem to have a recipe that works. Thanks

Re: [libreoffice-users] Header beginning on page 2?

2022-11-29 Thread Philip Jackson

The simple answer is to use 'styles' but it is not necessarily simple to
execute. If you have never used styles, it requires a little work up-front to
familiarize yourself.

Instead of using what is probably 'Default' page style throughout the document,
you will need to create a new style for the first page - which you could simple
call 'FirstPage'. In the definition of that page, you will turn headers and/or
footers 'Off'.

Then the rest of your document could stay with whatever is your default style
and with headers and/or footers turned 'On'.

Once you're into styles, you'll discover lots of page variants can be created
for special purposes within your documents.

Philip

Thanks very much. I've pretty well figured out that the problem here was
when L.O. Writer decided to label paragraphs as being in Japanese (even
though they contained no Japanese kana or kanji characters and most of
them didn't even contain romaji). And if I manually return the paragraphs
to English (USA) the line breaks become sane once again.

What I have not figured out is a.) why this happened -- if someone were,
say, to insert an English word into a document of Japanese Kana, would
L.O. Writer decide the whole document is English? -- and b.) how to
prevent it happening again.

Re: [libreoffice-users] LO data wizzard

2022-11-29 Thread Robert Großkopf

Hi Dave,

I was trying to use mail merge in LO. The documentation (7.1, but I
have 7.4) has some errors/omissions.

Which documentation did you use exactly?
And, if using LO 7.4 - isn't there a newer documentation available as
documentation for LO 7.1?

https://documentation.libreoffice.org/en/english-documentation/

- Step 6. The text says to click Finish once the connection is
tested. Actually, you need to select the correct sheet prior to
Finish. Sometimes there will be more than one sheet with addresses.

This won't appear if there is only on sheet. You need to select it if
there are more sheets. Could be you are missing this hint?

-

Step 10. "Click Finish. The data source is now registered." I get an
error that says the file already exists - overwrite it?

There is already registered a database with the name you have choosen.
Could be you are running through the process a second time.

Look at Tools → Options → LibreOffice Base → Databases
Default for a database for addresses is "Addresses". Default name of
this database is "Addresses.odb", which might be created in your
document directory.

Clicking Help
gets another error saying the page does not exist. So, what do I do
here???

File a bug if there is a buttonb vor "Help" and no help is available.

Hi Shiva Prasad,

Recently, some .docx files are failing to convert to .pdf.

Might be there are special formating in these *.docx, which aren't
available in OpenDocument format.
Something like this:

Have a look at https://bugs.documentfoundation.org for special bugs with

Re: [libreoffice-users] File conversion issue

2022-11-29 Thread Andrew Pitonyak

Do you see any problems / errors when you attempt a specific document manually?

You claim that you cannot provide the example file, but, how much can you
modify the example file and still demonstate the error?

I once had a file that caused a crash and it was related to an image in a frame
with a specific anchor type.

Are you able to remove parts of the document and still reproduce the crash?

Is the document long and perhaps there might be a timeout?

Are you able to modify the text (like change every letter to an X)?

Just a few thoughts.
