[libreoffice-users] MY DOCX WAS AUTOMATICALLY REDECTED

2023-07-09 Thread Dave Barton

Swatee GarsaWrote:
Hey, I Need your support. Yesterday i had saved a file as odt format
today when I opened the file, it also completely changed pages were
reduced, font style and size was changed. I am a freelancer, I need
this file asap. Please give your support.

There is no conversion of the original file when you open a non-native
file type and Libre|Office does not have the facility to redact or
delete documents. Possibly, what you did was to open a .docx file then
save it in .odt format, which means your original .docx file is still
somewhere on your computer. If your original .docx file has been
deleted/redacted, then you would have to have done that with another
program (eg. your OS file manager). If you are saying that the new .odf
document does not render with exactly the same appearance as the
original .docx file it could be that the original had a complex
structure that the save/export filter was unable to accurately translate
it with the same appearance as the original. Unfortunately, the newer MS
formats are something of a moving target for the creators of our
save/export filters and there can be no guarantee of a a perfect
translation.

Note: When posting for support on this mailing list, it is very helpful
for our volunteers if you give as much information as possible, at least
your OS (Operating System - eg. Linux, Mac, Solaris, Windows, etc.) and
and the version of LibreOffice you are using.

Regards Dave

[libreoffice-users] Writer Default Caption Category for Pasted Image.

2023-01-15 Thread Dave Barton
Is there any way to set the default caption category for an image PASTED
into a Writer document, in the same way as for an image INSERTED into a
Writer document?
Looks like a reasonable RFE.

Apologies if this appears on the list as a duplicate post.

Export to Epub doesn't fail, but the exported file is almost unreadable.

Look into the source code and you will see that the gallery flowcharts
in Writer are PNG bitmaps and in Draw they are metafile vectors, which
is the reason break works in Draw (a vector graphics module), but does
not in Writer.

I was trying to be brief in my description, so I wrote "PNG graphic
cannot be directly edited from within LO." when I should have been much
more pedantically specific by writing "PNG graphic cannot be directly
edited from within *_WRITER_*."

Bye

Hi Regina,

I think the two PNG graphics in the Writer Gallery John is referring to
are left and right curly braces. Both have the word "Callout" ("attached
descriptive text") drawn within the bitmap image, not editable text.

The F2 text addition facility you describe works for the Draw Gallery,
but not for the Writer Gallery and in both cases the word "Callout" in
the PNG graphic cannot be directly edited from within LO.

If I have understood John's original request correctly, "Insert -> Shape
-> Symbol Shapes" -> "Left Brace" or "Right Brace", then anchor,
position and size should satisfy his requirements.

Kind Regards
Dave

Re: [libreoffice-users] Using the Gallery - removing the descriptive text

2022-04-25 Thread Dave Barton
I believe Harald was trying to give a more complete answer than the
simple option you were looking for.

Yes, forget the bitmap images in the Gallery Flowchart set, where the
name of the flowchart symbols have the name embedded in them and are
intended to be used in a different situation than you wish to use.

From Writer's main menu select "Insert -> Shape -> Symbol Shapes", then
choose either "Left Brace" or "Right Brace" as required. Once the shape
is drawn and inserted you can freely position and size it to your
requirements.

Thanks Steve, but no it's NOT sorted.

You have "Kinda" given me 1/2 a clue.

What does {.1.} mean?

In all my researching of regular expressions, I have never encountered
this option. The wonderful thing about *_STANDARDS_* is that there are
such a wide variety of different ones to randomly chose and use.

[libreoffice-users] Help with find & replace.

2022-03-16 Thread Dave Barton
I am looking for a find & replace solution in Writer, where there is a
blank space as the last character of a paragraph
(eg. last word ).

In the original OOo and most of the text editors I use the simple
solution that worked/works perfectly is:
Find = $ Replace = $
(Note: I use here to represent a single space character).

This does not work in LO Writer, so I am forced to fiddle around copying
from LO and pasting into AOO, running F in AOO, then copy/paste back
again.

Any pointers would be welcome.

[libreoffice-users] Parallel Install 7.2 +7.3

2022-03-10 Thread Dave Barton
MS have set their attack (so called security) software to cripple the
excellent Separate Install GUI program (Se Bug 147831). Now I have to
manually set up parallel installs of different versions. Unfortunately,
installing 7.3.1.3 and 7.2.6.2 in parallel causes them to create
unwanted common profiles. I suspect that the bootstrap.ini needs to be
modified to prevent this, but I am not sure what needs to be
added/changed in the ini file. Here are my bootstrap.ini files:

LibreOffice Fresh 7.3.1.3
"C:\Program Files\LibreOffice\program\soffice.exe"
[Bootstrap]
InstallMode=
ProductKey=LibreOffice 7.3
UserInstallation=$SYSUSERCONFIG/LibreOffice/4

LibreOffice Still 7.2.6.2
"E:\LibreOffice 7.2.6.2\program\soffice.exe"
[Bootstrap]
InstallMode=
ProductKey=LibreOffice 7.2
UserInstallation=$SYSUSERCONFIG/LibreOffice/4

LibreOfficeDev 7.4.0.0.alpha0
"E:\LibreOffice 7.4.0-A0\program\soffice.exe"
[Bootstrap]
InstallMode=
ProductKey=LibreOfficeDev 7.4
UserInstallation=$SYSUSERCONFIG/LibreOfficeDev/4

Obviously a VM is a kludge workaround that I prefer to avoid.

Any pointers would be welcome.

Ken,

I have been unable to recreate your issue.
Version: 7.3.0.3 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 0f246aa12d0eee4a0f7adcefbf7c878fc2238db3
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 5.16; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

Here is a capture of the print dialog I see in 7.3.0.3
https://pcloscloud.com/index.php/s/cD3TzctTCrk7WgY

I have not seen any change in the print dialog for any of the 7.x
releases. Unless you are missing the "More" option in that dialog, this
would seem to be a local issue.

Dave

There is no version 7.18 yet.

If installing version 7.2.5.2 or 7.3.0.3 does not resolve your issue,
try the "Help -> Restart in Safe Mode..." menu option.

Now https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=147135

This bug has been reported in the forums of a number Linux distros. The
issue is very random and appears to only arise in some hardware
environments.

For example, I run PCLinuxOS with either Intel or AMD based hardware on
a number of machines and I cannot reproduce the crash. For others with
near equivalent hardware and software environments to mine, the crash is
100% reproducible.

This is going to be a difficult one for the devs to track down.

Hi Tim,

I have tried every possible way I can think of to recreate your issue,
but I cannot make it happen.
Running 6.4.7.2 on Mint 20.1, when simply clicking (not necessarily
selecting) inside a cell and choosing any color from the "Table Cell
Background Color" dialog the cell background is unquestionably filled
with that color. I get the same result if a range of cells are selected.
See:
https://www.mediafire.com/view/1hhrkcx0gdhh8jl/Table_Cell_Background.png/file
(45k)

I get the same result with a parallel 6.4.7.2 install on a Windows box.

Is it possible you might be opening the border color dialog by mistake?

If you feel your issue is a glitch in your local LO configuration, how
about temporarily renaming your LO profile to check?

Sorry I can't offer anything more constructive.

Regards
Dave

If you don't want to use cell references, how would you inform Calc
which one of the thousands of cells in a sheet was the one holding the
value you wanted it to use in your calculations?

If you actually do see A1/10 in cell A2, this suggests that cell A1 is
formatted as text not a numeric value. In which case =VALUE(A1)/10 does
work.

You will find some excellent Calc User Guides here:
https://tinyurl.com/aa4mrlt

LibreOffice version 5.2.7.2 is quite old and I would recommend updating
to at least version 7.1.6 from:
https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/

Answering my own question. While watching Gabriele Ponzo's "Professional
Templates" LiboCon presentation today, the realisation hit me that
templates inherit ALL aspects of of the document from which they are
created. The simple solution to my issue is to ensure that the "Title"
field of the "File Properties" dialog is cleared before the template is
saved.

Apologies for the list noise.

[libreoffice-users] Prevent Template Name Appearing in Document Title

2021-09-16 Thread Dave Barton
Is there any setting available to prevent template names being
automatically added to the Title field of the file properties. This is
not the case for the "hard coded" default templates.

I am fully aware of how to remove the template name from the Title
field, but I do not want to do this every time I open a new file based
on another template.

TIA

Sorry to be late with this, but I had to finish a hardware rebuild.
Your email header suggests you use PCLinuxOS, my distro of choice,
I just used LibreOffice Manager to install LO 7.1.5.2 and Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V
and Ctrl+X all work normally for me.

If you have not already do so, try resetting your user profile by
closing LO, renaming /home//.config/libreoffice/4 and
restarting LO.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Disable Mail Merge Toolbar

2021-05-08 Thread Dave Barton

Hi Dan,

I appreciate you taking the time to look into this, but after several
hours of investigation I finally tracked down the culprit. Originally I
couldn't figure out why I didn't have this issue on my main Linux box.
So I started comparing my configurations for LO under Win 10 & PCLinuxOS
KDE, which as far as possible I try to keep in sync with each other. The
only noticeable difference was the default template being used.

It turns out that there was some kind of corruption in the default
template on the Win 10 machine and once I created a new default template
the Mail Merge toolbar issue disappeared. However, I am still left
wondering why the corrupted template impacted on version 7.1.3.2 and
version 7.1.2.2 was totally unaffected by it. Yet another of life's
little mysteries ;)

Best Regards
Dave

Re: [libreoffice-users] Disable Mail Merge Toolbar

2021-05-08 Thread Dave Barton

Thanks Al, but 7.1.4 is not the solution. Being a "Dev" build it is
installed in parallel with the currently installed release build, which
means it creates a separate "clean" user profile. If I remove the 7.1.4
Dev profile and replace it with a copy of my 7.1.2.2 profile, the Mail
Merge toolbar problem instantly returns.

Obviously, there is something in my 7.1.2.2 profile that subsequent LO
versions choke on.

I am going to run some test installs on some of my other Win 10 boxes,
to see if I can find a clue to the underlying cause of the issue.

Well it seems that 7.1.3.2 is not for me. No matter what I try the
installer (clean or update) attacks and destroys my user profile to make
the Mail Merge toolbar always visible. I will continue to PLAY with
7.1.3.2 as a parallel install, but for production work on Windows I am
forced to stick with 7.1.2.2

This gives me a very uncomfortable feeling that future version updates
might start to introduce more of these non-critical, but annoying
issues, which in turn work to defeat much of our hard work in promoting
the LibreOffice project/software.

[libreoffice-users] Disable Mail Merge Toolbar

2021-05-07 Thread Dave Barton
Version: 7.1.3.2 (x64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 47f78053abe362b9384784d31a6e56f8511eb1c1
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19042
UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: en-IE (en_GB); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

Whenever I start a new writer document the Mail Merge toolbar is always
visible. I have tried every trick I can think of to prevent this
happening. Destroying my user profile seems to be the only option

Is anyone else here experiencing this issue, or found a solution to
persistently visible toolbars?

Thanks & Regards

Hi Regina,

Thanks for taking the time to reply, but I must be naturally stupid or
blind, because I cannot locate these "Custom Shapes" and "Legacy

Rectangles" you refer to.

As a member of the documentation team I am working to assist in the
creation of the Draw User Guide for LO 7.1, but your answer leaves me
and I am sure other members of the team, unsure how we can explain these
"Custom Shapes" and "Legacy Rectangles" to our users. Any pointers you
feel able to offer in this respect would be much appreciated.

In the "Position and Size" Dialog there is no control for the corner
radius of "Rounded Rectangle" shapes. Yes, it's possible to grab and
drag the radius handle for the object on the page, but this provides
zero accuracy for the adjustment.

I have only been a user of this software for 20+ years and an advocate
of LO for 10+ years and now I feel that I no longer understand it.

Kind Regards
Dave

Hi Luuk,

Many thanks for following up on this.

Yes, the "C:\Program Files\LibreOffice\share\autocorr" directory holds
all the language masters of the acor_xx_xx.dat files and as the user
profile languages are added the relevant acor_xx_xx.dat files are copied
to "C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\user\autocorr".

Manually copying acor_en_GB.dat and acor_en_US.dat to my profile
"C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\user\autocorr" did
not resolve my issue.

However. I have now succeeded in rebuilding my profile and I have
written a new profile backup and LO launch program.

Dave

Hi Luuk,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I fully understand the structure of
the user profile and I see acor_en_GB.dat and acor_en_US.dat in the
autocorr subdirectory.

Fixes I have tried:

* Delete one or both those dat files, with a full system restart each time.

* Delete both the dat files and replace them with copies from a new
install on an identical machine.

All failed to restore the default "AutoCorrect > Replace" options.

There has to be some other configuration setting in the profile that
influences this option.

Getting late here, so tomorrow I will spend a "less than enjoyable" day
reconstructing my profile and writing a program to trigger a backup of
my good profile _*BEFORE*_ LO ever starts and gets the opportunity to
attack and corrupt my profile again.

Regards
Dave

[libreoffice-users] Restore Default AutoCorrect Settings

2021-03-19 Thread Dave Barton
I make a full backup of my main Windows 10 production machine every week
and store those backups for at least 3 weeks. For many years I have
found this to be a good insurance policy against most forms of
corruption. Unfortunately, LO has succeeded in defeating the benefits of
this policy.

For the past 3 weeks I have been working, mostly with Writer, in
blissful ignorance of the fact that my profile has been partially
corrupted. I say partially, because only the default "AutoCorrect >
Replace" options have disappeared, while the rest of my extensive
profile remains in perfect working order. Obviously, this condition has
existed for a least 3 weeks, because restoring my profile from backups
does not resolve the issue.

I really would like to avoid the pain of fully rebuilding my profile
from scratch, so if anyone can offer any pointers or tips about
restoring just the default "AutoCorrect > Replace" options I would be
extremely grateful.

Regards
Dave

Hi Sophie,

Thanks for the update on the possible future of our forum.

I doubt my account is the cause of the issue, because I have no trouble
logging into Ask. The problem only manifests itself when I try to post.
However, I will follow your recommendation and post on the website list.

Re: [libreoffice-users] How to ask a question on Ask LibreOffice?

2021-02-16 Thread Dave Barton
Hi Don,

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Yes, as I said in my previous post "I log into Ask".

Even though I am not a fan of forums, I have posted to Ask in the past
and I was able to get my question listed. I guess there is some kind
of pretend AI sniffing at Ask questions and coming up with false
positives. Although I find it impossible to see anything in my very
reasonable and rational question which would trigger this defect.

Unfortunately my experience of Ask is the total opposite of yours.
I log into Ask enter my question, add the details, tags, go through
the "I'm not a robot" reCAPTCHA and click the "Ask Your Question"

Tried with 4 different browsers and 3 OS, with same result.

[libreoffice-users] How to ask a question on Ask LibreOffice?

2021-02-16 Thread Dave Barton
Since I got no response to an earlier post to this list, I attempted
to post in the Ask forum. Numerous attempts to post failed. I guess a
bug report in Bugzilla is now the only option.

I recall some murmurings about TDF seeking an alternative to the Ask
software. In my opinion, this should happen sooner rather than later.

Is it possible to update 7.1.0.3 to the latest dictionary extension:
https://extensions.libreoffice.org/en/extensions/show/english-dictionaries
without loosing the "English Sentence checking" option under
"Tools->Options->Language Settings" and "Tools->Extension

It is possible to disable this fake error message by enabling "Options
-> Language Settings -> Writing Aids -> Libhyphen Hyphenator".

I do not want or need hyphenation turned on. So what is the alternative
to block this fake message?

Hi Marco,

I never thought for one moment that your dictionaries were responsible
for this issue. I did try your latest version, but got the same error
message.

It's getting late here, so I will test this document with some
alternative options (eg. Linux, AOO, other LO versions, etc.) and report
back tomorrow.

Hi Jeff.

One possible option would be to generate your table in a csv layout
using tabs as the delimiter.

1234
5678

Rather than trying to paste into an existing table, paste the csv format
as plain text. Then highlight the pasted text and select Writer's main
menu "Table -> Convert -> Text to Table"option, identifying tabs as the
delimiter.

See Chapter 13 of the Writer Guide:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/images/a/a4/WG64-WriterGuide.pdf

Hope this helps.

Yes I get "Default" in the title field with 7.0.4.2 (x64) and all 6.x
versions, but that is down to my profile, otherwise I get the same as you.

The real issue is that 7.1.0.2 anything entered in the title field of a
new or existing document is lost (more accurately disappears) on save.

Hi Vince,

Returning your kind wishes back to yourself.

Ready-made buttons in Calc = No.

However, for an extra couple of mouse finger twitches, you can
select/highlight part of the TEXT entry in a cell and use the Calc menu
"Format -> Text -> Superscript" or Keyboard shortcut "Ctrl+Shift+P".

Remember that the cell is formatted as text and cannot be readily used
in a calculation.

Thanks Rémy,

The font is Times New Roman, but you are correct inserting a line break
does produce this formatting mark.

I guess the character used to represent this break changed between
versions 6 and 7.

[libreoffice-users] Formatting Marks?

2020-11-11 Thread Dave Barton
Hi Folks,

I have taken on (maybe unwisely) the task of helping an inexperience
user to change his (rather large) manually formatted document into a
styles based one, but I have immediately discovered something I have not
seen before. I don't know the which software was used to create the
original document, but it is now in odt format.

When the formatting marks are toggled on the header and footer of the
document pages show a double-headed horizontal arrowhead which I am not
familiar with. The mark I am referring to can be seen in this capture:
http://www.mediafire.com/view/qhfa8jgev37bhk6/Marks.png/file

Would someone please advise me as to what this mark represents?

Thanks & Regards
Dave

Hi Philip,

I have just been reminded that under "Tools -> Options -> Languages" the
"Asian" checkbox needs to be set. You can leave the drop-down list set
to "None". Not sure if a LO restart is necessary, but it can' do any harm.

This works for The TDF distributed edition for Linux, but I cannot say
if it works for any distro provided edition.

[libreoffice-users] Impress Text Toolbar

2020-03-17 Thread Dave Barton
I am currently reviewing a chapter for the Impress User Guide 6.4.

Part of this chapter refers to the "Text Toolbar" which is not visible
by default. Once the toolbar is made visible it should be possible to
make 3 additional toolbar buttons visible:
* Vertical Text
* Fit Vertical Text to Frame
* Vertical Callouts

Under LO Version: 6.4.1.2 (x64 & x86) Windows and Linux (x64) these 3
additional buttons cannot be made visible and the functions they provide
cannot be accessed via this toolbar.
The issue does NOT appear in:
LO portable 6.4.1.2 or 6.3.5.2 (x86 only)
Linux Mint provided Version 6.0.7.3

I have checked Bugzilla and unless I have overlooked it this issue does
not appear to have been reported yet.

Could someone here please check if this is a real issue or just a glitch
in the configuration of my machines?

TIA
Dave

Solved the issue by destroying my user profile on this machine.

Now I have the thankless task of rebuilding my profile settings and
restoring numerous valuable templates and possibly isolating the cause
of the original redaction failure.

[libreoffice-users] Redaction

2020-01-21 Thread Dave Barton
I have heard the LO Redaction feature mentioned recently and have never
investigated it. Out of simple curiosity I followed the in-built Help
instructions (not available on-line) "How redaction works in LibreOffice?".

With LO 6.4.0.2 x64 under Win10 the resulting PDF does not show either a
white or black redaction, only a semi-transparent gray blob over the
supposedly redacted area(s) and the text is fully visible.

With LO 6.3.4.2 under Linux both the black and white redactions work as
expected.

Does anyone else see this issue with LO 6.4.0.2 x64 under Win10?

Re: [libreoffice-users] Problem with chapter numbering and TOC.

2019-11-15 Thread Dave Barton
Hi Girvin,

Many thanks for taking the time to respond to my request.

It seems I didn't explain my problem accurately enough. The "New
Chapter" style referred to is a page style not a paragraph style.
Therefore it doesn't appear in the "Additional Styles" list.

I have always believed (maybe incorrectly) that the "Heading 1"
paragraph style was included int the TOC by default, unless otherwise
excluded.

I will try and construct a near identical sample document and post back
here with a link. Maybe someone could take a quick look at that sample
and see where I am going wrong.

[libreoffice-users] Problem with chapter numbering and TOC.

2019-11-13 Thread Dave Barton
I have set up chapter numbering as per the help page
https://tinyurl.com/vsq77lu and created a "New Chapter" page style.

After inserting a manual page break with the "New Chapter" page style I
set the first paragraph style to "Heading 1" and the correct chapter
name/number is displayed both on the page and in Navigator.

However, when I insert a TOC into the document no chapters appear in the
index.

Any thoughts or pointers would be welcome.

Subject:[libreoffice-users] Appearance of hyperlinks in Calc

LO 6.0.7.3
in UbuntuStudio 18.04 LTSIn a Calc spreadsheet, I have a column
consisting only of
hyperlinks to websites. They are correctly formed and work fine
with Ctrl-click.My problem is the appearance of the column. Each link is
in black
text backed by a dark gray background colour (like indications of
'fields' in Writer). That makes it difficult for me to read. My
preference would be black or even blue text on a plain white
background like the rest of the spreadsheet. The Help file provides the
same information for formatting
hyperlinks under Calc as it does for Writer. Essentially it
suggests changing the attributes via character stylesinternet links. I
can't find any access to character styles in
Calc let alone internet links styles. Nor is there anything
applicable to hyperlinks in cell formatting.(And in any case, the Help
text doesn't apply even to my version
of Writer either - but in Writer, I can at least change paragraph
styles to get the effect I would like).I think I have searched thoroughly
but I know it's easy to miss
some details so I'm appealing for any useful tips that you may be
able to provide to help me modify these attributes.Philip
What happens if you tap the F11 function key or select the menu
option View -Styles ? Either one should open the the StylesFormatting
panel, where you should see Hyperlink in the list
of cell styles. Right click on Hyperlink and select modify. In the
Cell Style: hyperlink dialog there are options to set font and
  background colors.

Note your existing cells with hyperlinks in them will have the
default style and you will have to select those cells and apply
  the Hyperlink style to them.

I don't have access to the Ubuntu edition of LibreOffice at the
moment, but the above procedure works perfectly for me using the
standard edition downloaded from TDF mirror servers.

Hope that helps.

the format of comments in a Writer document?

The comment drop down "Format All

For example, I change the font from

revert back toTimes New
Roman.

The Firefox personas/themes in LO have been broken for a very long time.
There are a few optimistic sounding notes posted on Bugzilla, but as
noted you "/shouldn't expect this issue to be fixed in the foreseeable
future/".

If you have a recent version of LO installed, you will find 6 "personas"
in the LO installation directory C:\Program
Files\LibreOffice\share\gallery\personas\.
They appear in the LibreOffice -> Options -> Personalization as
"/Preinstalled themes/".
Here is a workaround I have used to overcome this LO defect:

  * Pick one of the "/Preinstalled themes/" and apply it. For
illustration purposes only I am using "/Sand/".
  * Shut LO down
  * Take the .xpi you downloaded and unzip it to any convenient folder.
  * Most likely the .xpi contains 3 graphic jpg or png files ( 1 - 200
px high, 1 -100 px high and preview image)
  * Copy the 200px high and the 100px high files over to C:\Program
Files\LibreOffice\share\gallery\personas\sand
  * If you get a message asking to overwrite, answer YES. Otherwise
delete the existing "Header.png" and "Footer.png" files and rename
the files extracted from the .xpi as "Header.png" and "Footer.png".
  * If they are jpeg images rename them "Header.jpg" and "Footer.jpg"
and edit the 5th line of C:\Program
Files\LibreOffice\share\gallery\personas\personas_list.txt:
sand;Sand;sand/preview.png;sand/header.jpg;sand/footer.jpg;;#00;#ff
  * Restart LO and your theme should be displayed.

You say that you using a high contrast setting, in which case you might
need to tweak some of the 2 color settings in the C:\Program
Files\LibreOffice\share\gallery\personas\personas_list.txt file.

NOTE: Once you have a working configuration, make a backup copy of your
chosen theme (eg. sand), because it will not survive any LO update.

Hop this helps.

Dave

[libreoffice-users] LO ignores DE settings

Does anyone know why LO is the only application that does not respect
KDE Plasma desktop settings.

One example is the system cursor theme is set to "wonderland", but when
any LO window gets focus it changes the cursor them to something that
looks like "White Glass".

Hi Mike,

Thanks for checking. I thought it might be a Windows only issue.

I resolved my screen capture requirements by running the most recent
portable edition, where all 4 buttons appear on the formatting toolbar
by default.

In another email Ilmari indicated that he intended to consult the design
team, so I will hold off filing a bug report for the moment.

[libreoffice-users] Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Find Character Styles

2018-10-28 Thread Dave Barton
Hi Drew,

Thanks for taking a look at this. For me the macro fails on all LO 6.x.x
versions under Windows. I have the same issue with the macro on LO 6.1.2
under Linux. For anyone who might be interested I have uploaded a PDF
illustrating the problem here:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/0328n1p4ob305o1/Alt_Find_%2526_Replace_Error.pdf/file

It certainly seems like all support for the macro has been dropped. The
author's website http://mujweb.cz/ closed down in September.

Sadly, my macro writing/debugging skills are not of a very high standard
and my knowledge of the macro author's language (Czech?) is
non-existent. Otherwise I would take a shot at fixing the code.

At first I thought it was this Windows 7 box which hates LO, or maybe
it's the other way round. Where I have a myriad of problems that only
affect LO and make it almost unusable.

[libreoffice-users] Find Character Styles

2018-10-27 Thread Dave Barton
Hi Folks,

Does anyone have any info or pointers about how to find character styles
in a Writer document?

In the past the Alternative Find & Replace extension was very useful for
this, but unfortunately it is no longer maintained and something must
have changed in the 6.x series which causes it to fail in some operations.

TIA

Hi Peggy,

In addition to the advice given by Ricardo and Rémy, I suggest you take
a look at the recently updated documentation:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Publications#Getting_Started_with_LibreOffice
Chapter 3 - Using Styles and Templates
and
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Publications#LibreOffice_Writer_Guide
Chapter 10 - Working with Templates

To pin to the taskbar: Once you have created and saved your template,
open the "/Template Manager/", select your template and click the
"Export" button.

Choose your desktop to save the exported copy of your template, then
right click and drag the desktop icon to the taskbar.

Hope this helps.
Dave

PS. I have cc'd this message to you, because the list server normally

and Linux boxes, where I have zero scanning issues using LO 5.4 or other
office software.

Has anyone entered a bug report yet?

Even better if the day ever comes when we can have styles list undocked
from the sidebar, in the same way as Navigator.

Hi Pedro,

Yes, I was aware of this change and I always disable OpenGL rendering.

The issue is the same if the option is checked or not.

[libreoffice-users] Documentation Team Call For Help

2017-07-20 Thread Dave Barton
In the world of open source software LibreOffice has one of the shortest
time based release cycles. One downside of this schedule is that the
Documentation Team has been unable keep pace with the release frequency
for publication of the User Guides. With the release of LO Version 6.0
targeted for Q1 of 2018
,
the Documentation Team is attempting to proactively begin work on the
“/Getting Started/” guide now, in order to have at least the basic guide
ready for publication by the time version 6.0 is released.

To achieve this target the Documentation Team is seeking the help of new
and past authors/reviewers. While skilled technical authors will always
be welcome, anyone, regardless of their writing skills and knowledge of
the software, can contribute to this effort. The only requirements are,
a reasonable ability to read and write in English. Users with little or
no previous experience can make a valuable contribution, by carefully
following the revised guide chapters and reporting anything that does
not agree with the actual software, or is not sufficiently clear for
inexperienced users to understand.

If you would like to help in any way, please email a request for more
information to the Documentation Team: documentat...@libreoffice.org

Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Dave

Hi Ian,

I cannot understand why this is not working for you. The simple one time
method of creating a default Calc template described in my previous
email works perfectly for me and 14 others here all using PCLinuxOS and
LO version 5.3.0.3

My guess is the problem is either an issue with your user profile, or
something else in your setup that we are not picking up from your
description.

Try directly opening the attached sample template and you should see a
single sheet with Bold 14pt. Liberation Serif font. If not there is
something "adrift" in your setup.

Have you unintentionally set protection of the position in that dialog?
Look for a tick/check mark in the "Protect -> Position" box. (Bottom
left hand corner of the dialog)

[libreoffice-users] Sidebar Survey

2016-02-28 Thread Dave Barton
For those who do not subscribe to the design mailing list, or follow the
project's design blog, a new survey has been produced to ascertain what
users want/expect from the sidebar in future developments.

The blog post explanation, together with a link to the survey, can be
found here:
https://design.blog.documentfoundation.org/2016/02/26/what-do-you-expect-from-the-sidebar-in-libreoffice/
In case the above link structure is broken by the list server, I have
created a shortened link: http://bit.ly/1oH2Lql

The survey is open now and will run until 18th. March.

As the blog post indicates, it will be of great assistance to those who
directly contribute to the software's design to get answers to this
survey from as many users as possible. So please spread the word.

I don't have access to an earlier version at the moment, but your
example bug attachment opens perfectly with Version: 5.1.1.1 (x64)
Build ID: c43cb650e9c145b181321ea547d38296db70f36e
also MS Word 2013 & AOO 4.1.2 on Win 7 Ult. x64

Will check with earlier versions on Linux, Win XP, 7 & 10 later.

Jim,

I am not an Xubuntu user, but I am using the vanilla LO 5.1.0.3RC3 x64
on PCLinux and Windows 7 with the AltSearch extension version 1.4.1
which is working perfectly for me. I did experience a problem with macro
errors (no crashes) in a previous LO version (4.?), but this was
resolved by removing and reinstalling the extension.

Where did you hear that the extension was incompatible with the 5.x
versions of LO?

Hi Vermas,

There appears to be something misconfigured on your system. I have just
test printed several files from Writer/Calc 4.4.6 & 5.0.3 using Nitro
Pro 10.5.1.17 as a printer on Win 7 Ult. x64 and Win 10 Pro x64 with no
problems.

Italo has already pointed out there is no advantage to using the Nitro
printer, because the quality of the output from the in-built PDF export
(which is what I routinely use) is equal to, or (arguably) better, than
Nitro printer.

As Joel has indicated, it would be wise to first canvas the experience
of other users before unilaterally declaring a failing of your own
system as a bug in the LO software. If such a bug exists, might it not
be in Nitro's printer software? Sorry, but I am unable to revert back to
my old Nitro version 8 to try and prove/disprove your assertions.

Regards
Dave
