I am not sure I have understood the thread so this may be irrelevant
but if you are in gmail, you can easily write a 'filter' which allows
searching on sender, subject (or terms in the subject), content or
dates. you can have it sort mail into folders ('labels' as they call
them).

Gotta' use webmail at work - not TB. Are you trying to do this in a browser? Use a real email client, such as Thunderbird. With it you can sort as far back as you like. You can also use it to archive mail by year. Sounds interesting. I can't really help as I use Thunderbird as a front end and a very robust folder set up. I see messages from 2015. I'll look at using the web client later today to see if it is a TB feature or a gmail quirk. But I am very interested in how you are betting the messages into LO Writer? I am a board member for a not-for-profit and would like to have off line documents of various discussion threads.
