Hagar,

Quite the same, just copy and paste.
It may take some time until AOO retrieves the pic from the net.
You may have better results to copy and paste as unformatted text and save
the pics on your HD before inserting them with the InsertPictureFrom file
 menu.

I hope that I sent this request to the correct location.
In MS Office I can copy a web page that contains both text and pictures and
paste it into MS Word. How do I capture both text and pictures into Apache
 Open office? Please advise.

Oracle Bad news JDK 6 will no longer be free which screws AOO usage

2012-12-12 Thread Scooter C

Why has this issue not been mentioned?

last publicly available release of Oracle JDK 6 is to be released in
*February, 2013*.
This means that after February 19, 2013, all newsecurity updates #,
patches and fixes for Java SE 6 and Java SE 5 will only be available
through My Oracle Support and will thus require a commercial license
with Oracle

I don't have an answer to why this has not been mentioned in this
forum. It has now!
And I just went through the pain of creating an Oracle account to gain
access to their archives for the old (Java 6) versions!
Time to resurrect Blackdown Java?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackdown_Java
What about that Free Software Foundation (GNU) Java? I have a Java RE
called Free Software Foundation 1.4.2 on my Slackware Linux 12.2
system. A look at their website looks like it is no longer active.

Maybe it is time for AOO to either code for Java 7 or remove Java
dependencies altogether.
Keep in mind that AOO is not the only app that uses Java. Mozilla
immediately comes to mind. They will most likely have to change also.

Re: Oracle Bad news JDK 6 will no longer be free which screws AOO usage

2012-12-12 Thread Dale Erwin
It was my understanding that the only thing in OO that was dependent
upon Java was the database engine (HSQLDB) which is coded 100% in Java.
I used OS/2 and eComStation until I reached the point that I could not
install it on my new hardware, and the OS/2 version of OOo worked just
fine without Java, including databases using other dbms solutions. I
even used HSQLDB under eComStation until it reached the point they
needed a realease of Java later than 1.4.1. After that I was unable to
use later versions of HSQLDB.

Open office keeps dying.

2012-12-12 Thread Larry

Hi,

My open office keeps dying. It is OpenOffice.org 3.4.1 AOO341m1
build:9593 Rev 1372282

Recently purchased a new laptop - Gateway NV52L06u has an AMD64 dual
core processor A6-4400M. This comes with Windows 7 installed. Currently
trying to transition from windows to ubuntu,And I run OO inside of
windows. After copying all my data files over from the old computer,
down loaded OO. About every second time OO would open one of the .ODT
files it would crash.

Read through the blogs, got a hint about administrator priveleges.
Uninstalled OO, and re-installed another OO. Seemed to work OK for a
bit, but the crashes began again.

When I try a download from apache, it doesn't ask if 32 or 64 bit?
Please tell (point, show, direct) me which Open office to download, and
how to load on my computer.

Thank you for the assistance,
Larry Gran

Larry;

If you upgraded from a previous 3.x version of OpenOffice.org there is a
known issue explained in the Apache OpenOffice 3.4.0 and 3.4.1 release
notes. If this is the case then the advice from Hagar should solve the
problem. The release notes or the latest version can be read
here:http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/3.4.1.html. There
will always be a link to the current versions release notes on the
download page also in the left side navigation pane. It is labeled
Release Notes.

As far as it not asking you about 32 or 64 bit versions: Currently the
windows version is 32 bit only which will run on either a 32 bit or 64
bit system.

Regards
Keith
