o Tick the option at Tools | Options... | OpenOffice Writer | View |
Display | Graphics and objects.

I trust this helps.

Perhaps you can tether your computer to your phone for Internet access.
Regardless, the Windows version should work. I have used it on both
Windows 7 & 10.

Re: download problem

2017-02-25 Thread chuck ef
I am assuming you are running into the Gatekeeper issue:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+4.1.3+Release+Notes#AOO4.1.3ReleaseNotes-KnownIssues

AOO 4.1.3 Release Notes - Apache OpenOffice Community
...
cwiki.apache.org
General Remarks. Apache OpenOffice 4.1.3 is a maintenance release incorporating
important bug fixes, security fixes, updated dictionaries, and build fixes.

I have never had a problem opening the app once I told Gatekeeper to allow the
install. There is however a known (I believe) problem where it will sometimes
crash on opening - I just keep trying until it opens. I suspect there is some
sort of resource conflict. This is rare problem but annoying. It will
eventually open though.

Re: Saving As Docx

2017-02-25 Thread ninja_glace
CC'ing the OP.

Would also like to add that as long as MS Office continues to support
the original file formats (.doc, .xls, and .ppt), there is no legitimate
need for OpenOffice to save in the newer file formats (.docx, .xlsx, and
.pptx).

It has been stated previously on this thread that developer resources
are already scarce. Unless Microsoft decides to pull the plug on these
older file formats, OpenOffice will continue to export them.

Re: Installing OO.o

2017-02-25 Thread Hagar Delest

Hi,

Java is needed for some features only. Basically, AOO will work without.
Installing a JRE is not difficult, you have to install the 32bit version
however.
There is also a bug but with a workaround if you have difficulties. See:
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15=87501

Beware, you're not subscribed to the list, you may miss other replies.

Please help me. I have been using OpenOffice Writer on a Vista computer for

I really want to use OO.o Writer again. But I read in one place that you need
Java for functionality, and in another that you don’t. So could you please tell
me what I really do need to install and run OO.o Writer?

Hi, ' have installed OpenOfice 4.1.3 (newsest) in Polish. I also
could have installed Deutsch as extension for Windows. Thus now I can
select Polish or German as the text language for spellchecking,
hyphenation etc. In addition, I would need English (UK) but did not
find /English (UK) Language Pack./ Does it exist as extension ? If
yes where to llok for and how to add to Writer ?

Kind regerds,

Peter

The standard English dictionary extension is available from:
http://extensions.openoffice.org/en/download/18626
The extension includes dictionaries for:
- en_AU (Australian)
- en_CA (Canadian)
- en_GB (British)
- en_US (American)
- en_ZA (South African)
More information:
http://extensions.openoffice.org/en/project/english-dictionaries-apache-openoffice
Once installed AOO will notify you when an update for this extension
is available.

Regards
Dave
