Re: Lost my document

2018-10-19 Thread Howard Blum
I love this reply.

I am obsessive about backups after suffering lost data and files due to a
hard drive failure back in the day when they were not as reliable as I feel
they are now.

I have one backup for even dates, one for odd dates and a third one for a
weekend backup.

Of course I have never had a catasteophic failure since I began this backup
routine, but I sleep well at night.

Re: app store

2018-10-18 Thread Howard Blum
I have a Mac office for my business and all our computers are running OO.

I suggest the problem resides in your computer. I would guess that you have
your Mac setup to not accept any 3rd party applications.

Goto System Preference>Security & Privacy and see if your setting are to
only accept applications from the app store. That is the likely block. Just
change the settings and you can download it. Then you'll have to go to the
security settings again when you try to install it because it is from an
unrecognized developer, but it's not difficult to do.

Good luck.

Re: OO does NOT open

2018-10-15 Thread Howard Blum
You are going to see that dialogue box with every version of the app.

It's the security of the OS to prevent unwanted apps from installing.
Here's how to deal with it.

1- Immediately after getting that dialogue box go to system preference.
2- go to security settings.
3- you should see a dialogue box if you really want to open it.
4- when you enter your administration password you will see another
dialogue box that asks again if you want to open it.
5- click on open and you won't have to deal with it again.

2018-07-18 Thread Howard Blum
As a long time Mac User I think you will be okay. the operating system
doesn't look for a specific version of an application it just looks for the
suffix at the end of the file name to know which application to open.

If your text files have. ODT at the end of it you should be fine.

Re: Open Office Impress

2018-07-12 Thread Howard Blum
Place the file in the public folder of Dropbox.

Once in there you should be able to copy the location address. Their
instructions are:

The Public folder lets you easily share single files in your Dropbox. Any
file you put in this folder gets its own Internet link that you can share
with others -- even non-Dropbox users!

Step 1: Drop a file into the Public folder.

Step 2: Right-click this file, then choose Dropbox > Copy Public Link.
This copies an Internet link to your file that you can paste anywhere:
emails, instant messages, blogs, etc.

That's it! To share your file, just send the link to a friend.

Happy Dropboxing!

Re: Problem opening files on Macbook

2018-07-04 Thread Howard Blum
I am using a MacBook Air with the same High Sierra and OpenOffice.

My suggestion would be to:
1- Single click on the file you are dealing with to highlight it.
2- Command-I to bring up the information panel
3- At the bottom of the Info panel you will see permissions of who can
open, read and write to the file
4- Add the entity you want to open and work with the file.

Hopefully that will do what you want done.

Re: Can't open Apache Open Office

2018-05-26 Thread Howard Blum
The issue is your operating system and not Open Office. When you get that
error message you must immediately go to the Apple menu (top left corner),
and select system preferences. In preferences you will see the option to
open the application in spite of it being an unrecognizable developer.

You could have gotten the answer by googling the issue in your web browser.

BTW- your using all caps is considered offensive.

No employees for this, only volunteers.

You are blaming the FREE application for most likely sounded like an issue

If you want to make demands of a customer support team of employees go buy
Microsoft products and pay for the ability to bad-mouth a product.

Bye bye.

Consider selecting all the text, select double spacing and then select
single spacing for all the text.

Dear Sir/Madam:
I am a current user of Apache OpenOffice 4 mainly used for creating

During the creation of one particular document, each line of text was
separated by each subsequent single-line spacing. But, half way through
the document, it changed to double spacing. How do I restore the document
to single spacing?
Thank you for your assistance.

Re: Inability to open Open Office to my Mac once downloaded

2018-02-06 Thread Howard Blum
You may run into a pop-up message that says you are trying to open an
application from an unknown developer. If that happens do the following:
1- close the security message alert
2-go to system preferences and click on security icon
3-in the lower part of the security window it will give you the option of
opening the file.
4-click on open anyway
5-Your system should ask you for your administrative password
6-click on open and you're good to go.

Extension download problem

2018-01-25 Thread Howard Blum
I was attempting to download an extension for "word count status bar
control" for Mac from...

https://www.arielch.orgaoo/aoo-ui-extras/

The site is unreachable.

I came out from behind my firewall and I also shut down my VPN connection
and still nothing. I used multiple web browsers and still no connection.

Any other site I can go to for downloading it?

TIA,

I'm assuming you get the error message about the downloaded app. Go to the
system preferences after the error message pops up. Click on security. You
will see an option to open it anyway. It will ask for your administration
password. After that you should be able to open it.

Re: [AOO-Templates]

2017-12-09 Thread Howard Blum
Scooter, I could afford to upgrade, but decided against it on principle
grounds.

I am on Apple Mac computers. When I upgraded to MS Office 2011 I got angry
that not only did I have to pay over $100 for the upgrade, I also
discovered they removed Entourage from the package and had to pay an
additional $100 to get Entourage. That's when I swore those SOBs would
never see another dime of my money.

I have put Adobe into the same disdainful category and will not be
upgrading my Creative Suite package.

Re: please help me

2017-12-05 Thread Howard Blum
I must confess, I am spoiled as a very long term Apple Mac user and if I
cannot figure out how to use an application without looking for a user's
guide or manual I tend to walk away from the application and try another.

Having said that, I love this application suite much better than MS Office.
Okay, so it does not have some items we have become used to in their suite
of apps, but no biggie as far as I can tell.

Thanks again for such a great apps.

I am inclined to believe that you moved the documents from the location
where originally saved to another folder.

If you go to the folder where it currently resides and click on it it
should launch the document. After that you can access it from the drop down
