Re: [xwiki-users] Most images not found - new installation

2016-09-22 Thread Polydectus84
Thomas,

Please ignore my previous message. I decided to make this easier and
literally start from the beginning. This is exactly what I've done:

1. sudo apt-add-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
2. sudo apt-get update
3. sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer
4. wget -q "http://maven.xwiki.org/public.gpg; -O- | sudo apt-key add -
sudo wget "http://maven.xwiki.org/stable/xwiki-stable.list; -P
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/
5. sudo apt-get update
6. sudo apt-get install xwiki-enterprise-tomcat7-mysql
7. /etc/default/tomcat7
- Changed JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-oracle
- Changed JAVA_OPTS="-Djava.awt.headless=true -Xmx512m
-XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC"

I have stopped there for the time being. I didn't want to change the values
in xwiki.cfg or xwiki.properties until I knew I did this much correctly.
Also, should I make the changes to xwiki.cfg and xwiki.properties before or
after running the Distribution Wizard for the first time?

Please let me know what I should do next to change to the Filesystem storage
so I can upload files larger than 30MB. I am unsure what directory I can
use that won't clear itself out.

Again, your help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your quick reply Thomas. I love your software, I am just
getting discouraged because of all the hiccups (likely my own fault).

Where might I find this log?
What directory would you recommend I use for environment.permanentDirectory
in xwiki.properties ?

[xwiki-users] Most images not found - new installation

2016-09-22 Thread Polydectus84
Installed XWiki Enterprise 8.2.1 on Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS.

I did a lot of research after 4 previous failed installation attempts.
Opted to choose the Filesystem Storage option from the beginning since we
need to host files larger than 30MB. I followed these instructions:
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Attachments#HFilesystemattachmentstorelocation

Everytime I start xwiki, I am brought through the Distribution Wizard and
prompted to basically install XWiki again. Sometimes I'm not prompted, but
most images are not displayed.

In Tomcat7 - JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-oracle

Made changes to xwiki.properties file
environment.permanentDirectory=/etc/tomcat7/data

Made changes to xwiki.cfg (and made sure they weren't commented out):

xwiki.store.attachment.hint=file
xwiki.store.attachment.versioning.hint=file
xwiki.store.attachment.recyclebin.hint=file
Due to this bug: http://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XWIKI-9065, I changed the
value in xwiki.cfg for:
storage.attachment.recyclebin=0

My gut is telling me that I need to use this
http://snippets.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Filesystem+Attachment+Porter
, but I can't because the attachment is no longer available.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you need more info, please let me
know.

Re: [xwiki-users] Unable to upload larger files (30MB+)

2016-09-13 Thread Polydectus84
Thomas,

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to work with the
existing wiki installation. I honestly didn't get very far, so I just
installed the newest version and made changes to the xwiki.cfg and
xwiki.properties (and I think Tomcat8) prior to installing.

It works perfectly, now.

[xwiki-users] Unable to upload larger files (30MB+)

2016-09-09 Thread Polydectus84
I have searched all over the forums but can't seem to find a solution that
matches what I am experiencing.

I'm unsure what information you need, but here are the basics.

XWiki Enterprise 7.4.4 on Ubuntu Server 16.06. MySQL, Tomcat8

If there is some sort of script that I need to run to show what other
extensions are installed or specifics, please let me know.

I am trying to upload a PDF that is about 30MB. I have tried adding it as
an attachment to a page, but it just gives me an error, "An error occurred
while uploading AE1920-228XUS.pdf"

I have also tried to install thru the File Manager Extension, but it doesn't
actually upload. Here is a screenshot immediately after it "looks like" it
uploaded.

I have tried uploading smaller image files and those upload correctly.

Things I have already tried:

- Changed the Maximum Upload Size to 314572800
- php.ini - changed the max_upload_size value to 300MB

I wish there was a log that I could read to see what the error actually is.

Re: [xwiki-users] Advice needed for new XWiki Enterprise 7.4.4 Setup

2016-09-08 Thread Polydectus84
That was very helpful, thank you. I have decided to go the route of
pages/dashboard and nested pages. It just makes more sense. I will create
another wiki to contain the sensitive information and give certain users
access rights.

This is a bit unrelated to my question, but I searched the forum and
FAQs/guides but couldn't find an up to date answer. I am looking for a
template to be able to use for a hardware model of a computer. I have been
using the "Encyclopedia" template and altering it from there. I suppose my
real question is how can I save my altered version as an actual template,
and name it "Hardware Model Template" or something like that so if someone
chooses that template, they can just fill in the blanks? How would I go
about creating a template?

XWiki software is very good. By far the best wiki software that I have
used, and I've tried almost all of them. I am confident that we are going
to stick with it.

[xwiki-users] Advice needed for new XWiki Enterprise 7.4.4 Setup

2016-08-26 Thread Polydectus84
Hello Everyone,

I have managed to install XWiki Enterprise v.7.4.4 and have a few questions
before really getting started. There are a few things that are unclear to
me. Here is an overview for what it will be used for:

We have several teams: Computer Support, Sales, Warehouse, QA,
Ops/Development, Office Administration. XWiki will be used as a
knowledge-base for known issues, procedures and file hosting.

We want to have everyone be able to search for and create new pages/articles
in any wiki except for Office Administration and perhaps 1 other. Also, for
example, you are in the "Support" wiki and perform a search - we want search
results from content in the "Warehouse" wiki to be included in the results.

1. Would you recommend that I create a "Wiki" for each department?
2. When creating the user accounts, should I create them while in the
"Home" wiki (which is called Home by default installation), or am I doing
that incorrectly? I am logged in as the Admin user and going to Administer
Wiki > Users and Groups > Users > Add New User.
3. When installing extensions/applications - should I "Install" or "Install
on farm"? I'm not quite sure what the "farm" is. Is it the Sandbox?

I ask because I tried to create a "new Wiki" and it is like I have to start
from scratch again and create those user accounts in that wiki as well and
adjust any cosmetic changes, changes to the skin, applications/extensions.

4. As easy as it seems, I am having a very difficult time with the Panels
Wizard.

I have several other questions, but feel I shouldn't ask them until the
above are answered.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry to pest but I am still trying to do this and am pulling my hair out in
the process. I really would like to start using XWiki. I haven't been able
to make any progress. I have tried to install the dependencies but it is as
if they don't exist.

*When trying to install dependency: xwiki-enterprise-mysql-common:*

Is this installation method exclusively for Debian or will it work with
Ubuntu? Am I doing something wrong or is there an issue with the repo?
Please remember that my understanding of Ubuntu is elementary, but from what
I can gather, it looks like it is something wrong with the repo.

[xwiki-users] Need Help Installing XWiki on Ubuntu Server 1404 LTS

2016-07-20 Thread Polydectus84
I apologize for the vague topic description. I have been trying to install
XWiki on a freshly installed Ubuntu server running 14.04 for a few days and
am just getting pulled in all sorts of directions when it comes to
installation and am just getting a little agitated.

I am relatively new to Ubuntu in general. I am just looking for a guide to
install the newest version of XWiki Enterprise on Ubuntu Server 14.04 using
what I believe would be a .WAR install. (I want to avoid the stand-alone
installer since it is not recommended on production.)

All guides that I have found seem to breeze thru the installation process
and jump right into "Getting Started using the software". I am still stuck
on the actual installation and cannot seem to follow the guide without
getting thrown off by a step that makes absolutely no sense.

If someone could please point me in the right direction, it would be greatly
appreciated.

[xwiki-users] Mediawiki to XWiki Migration

2016-07-01 Thread Polydectus84
Hello Everyone:

I will soon be switching from Mediawiki to XWiki. XWiki has many features
that we are interested in compared to Mediawiki.

I just want to make sure that this is still the most up to date and
recommended way to migrate Mediawiki data into a new XWiki installation:
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Import+MediaWiki+To+XWiki

I'd like to be familiar with the process prior to actually doing it. Thank
you for your time.
