2000 V-max
I'm considering the purchase of a new Max. I currently live in Japan and I am wondering about the differences between Japanese and American models.( H.P., specs. etc.) What would be different ? The bike is alot cheaper here so I'm seriously looking into it. . To unsubscribe go to http://www.sayegh.org/unsubscribe.htm .

Dennis, I have a 99 vmax with the BW switch with no problems . Can idle in traffic all day at 90* + and gage never goes above 3/4 . You have other problems . Take it to the dealer if still under warrantee . Re: Double D clutch mod
Double D stands for Double Diaphram. Yes you do need to get a second diaphram spring, that's the idea of the upgrade to stiffen the clutch. You also need to install a larger retaining ring to hold the two springs in place. I got mine from Robert Dees, don't remember email. I think Don smith is also making them, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Randy Nial 95' Vmax VMOA #814 Ft. Laud.,FL USA [EMAIL PROTECTED] - Original Message - From: Don Seel [EMAIL PROTECTED] In the instructions for the Double D mod I see there is a line that says "Install second diaphram spring". I have read these instructions many times with the thought of doing this to my Max, but I must have missed that line (and never clued into what double D stands for). Is this to say I should purchase another spring diaphram from Yamaha as well as the clutch disc and gasket? Perhaps the article could be a little more clear on this (perhaps listing all part #s in a table format). . To unsubscribe go to http://www.sayegh.org/unsubscribe.htm .

Re: 2000 V-max
I live in Tokyo and I bought a 99 US version here. I think these are the three main differences between the US and Japanese models. 1.Japanese's models do not have the V-Boost. 2.Japanese models have black rims and mufflers and KM/H Speedos , US models have chrome and the duel MPH and KM/H Speedos. 3.At least from what I have found around Tokyo, it is easier to find a US model new than a Japanese model. At least in the areas I look in. Also if you are from the US you can not import a Japanese model back to the US. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions email me off list. Where do you get a lower temp setpoint Borg-Warner fan switch for a 99 Max? Brad - Original Message - From: "Gibson, Dennis L." Now the fan comes on before the needle reaches the dot (which doesn't seem right) on the temp gauge which is when the internal (motor) thermostat allows cooling water to circulate (optimum operating temp). In stop and go traffic the motor still appears to be over heating (wants to die/hard to start back when it does) even though needle is below redline. Appears motor heat is not being dissipated. Anyone else experiencing this condition? Is there anything short of the SlimMax radiator that can be done? Will "Water Wetter" heat transfer help that much (and is it safe for the internals)? Re: [Vmax] Brake fluid
Jim-When Yahmaha went to the larger brakes in 1993, they felt that they could generate more heat, thus recommended DOT 4 with a higher boiling point. No problem, they are compatible. Just add DOT-4 to the master cylinder and bleed untill clear fluid comes out.. Suggest you bleed/flush annually. LP Turn Signal Repl. bulbs
I just talked to a LP rep on the phone and he told me that I won't be able to get the dual element bulb anywhere except from them. He said he tells customers to buy some when they buy the turn signals, because the bulbs get backordered in the summer. He was able to give me the name of a local Honda shop which is a stocking dealer. I'll try there tomorrow.(Vincent, if they don't have them, I'll contact you!) There are no part number markings on the base. The bulb resembles a GE 68, but it's locking pins are offset. The only numbers stamped on the base are: 12V23/8W. These appear to be the specs of the bulb. Also, many thanks to all who responded to my question about brake fluid compatibility. I'll be flushing the front system and filling with Dot 4. Re: Carb Question
Welllet's seeI think I can spell "stuck exhaust valve", but I hope I don't have to fix one. Sorry guys, although I love my max dearly, my mechanical skills are more oriented to repairing computer network problems than they are to lapping valves. So I apologize. I am lucky enough to have a good mechanic as a friend however, and am hoping that with your expertise and his mechanical ability I can once again get back to enjoying the beast in ignorant bliss. In answer to the several questions that were posed: Bike has been rejetted and is running Cobra pipes (dont know the size jet was used, as I am not the original owner, and he is unavailable...that's one of the things I hoped to discover when we tear down the carbs). Bike has 10,500 milesless than half the recommended 26,000 mile maintenance interval for valves. Offending cylinder is #2. Haven't got a compression reading yetjust started working on this thing and planned to do it this weekend also. Had vacuum on the carbjust couldn't get it in line with the others. Plugs don't look bad at all. Go figure. No difference in appearance between #2 and the rest of them either. (BTW...replaced them all) Regarding the dealertheir solution was $210 to tear the carbs down and take a look. So, what I hear you guys saying is that it doesn't sound like a carb problem at all. I got the idea that it might be from some of the other posts on this list which seemed to relate similar symptoms that cleared up with either adjusting float level or blowing out the primaries. I was hoping it would be this simple, but it figures it's not. Regarding the suggestion that "So either you have a big leak on the exhaust valve, (a stuck intake valve would still create vacuum)...", if I read this right, if am getting vacuum then it's NOT the exhaust valve. And since I am getting enough vacuum to register OK on the synch gauge (can get it adjusted "close" to the others, just not close enough...either higher or lower but not the same), then it's NOT a valve? Well, if any of the additional information sparks any other thoughts about what it might be, I'd appreciate hearing any other suggestions (or a confirmation that it still sounds like a bad valve or a leak). Thanks, Tom . To unsubscribe go to http://www.sayegh.org/unsubscribe.htm .
