Venture Hop UP
Hi Guys, Have any of you put V-max cams in a stock Venture motor? If so what was the result? I suspect a loss of bottom end torque with a power gain on top. With the New Gold Wing 1800cc pumping out some real power in the 115hp range the mighty Venture is surpassed. We can't have that, now can we? Not NO! but Hell No!!! A few questions
Hello, I am planning on buying a 2000 V-MAX. I always wanted to own a V-MAX, but before I buy one, I would like to know what, if any, problems their are. Someone told me that this is a very HIGH maintenance bike. Is this true? What is the recommended maintenance on this bike, valve adjustments, chain adj. and anything else? Please let me know. Thank You, Denis (DAS) . To unsubscribe go to http://www.sayegh.org/unsubscribe.htm .

Re: A few questions
Hi Denis, Whoever you've been talking to, avoid them in the future. They're completely, totally, apodictically ignorant. Do you suppose the design has remained virtually unchanged for 15 years because the Japanese love high maintenance machinery? (Just like Toyota and Lexus, those maintenance hogs.) The Max, in stock form, is anything but a high maintenance bike. Ask the bozo who suggested that it was high maintenance if they own a Ducati 916 (or any other of the desmoquattro bikes). (Or far that matter, have ever SEEN one.) Now THERE'S a high maintenance bike. The max is extremely low maintenance, due to its generally reliable Japanese character. It has a shaft drive, so no chain problems. The valves need to be checked every 26 THOUSAND miles or so. The Max requires about as much maintenance as most Japanese bikes...that is, approximately none. Compared to ANY European bike, with the possible exception of BMW's, it requires NO maintenance. Just change the fluids now and then, and it's happy. If reliability and low maintenance are your goals, a stock Max fits the bill quite nicely. best, Sat Tara . Jim a good mechanic will "blue print" the motor. If you don't check all clearances when putting one together, its not gonna last. A friend here that has a shop will do mine when I do a 1327. He builds alot of motors that see alot of abuse. Some of his past motors have helped the likes of Colin Edwards, Tom Kitts, Doug Toland, John Kociniski and more get where they are. I have heard of some doing a test by drilling a small hole where the tire would most closely meet the shaft, sticking a safety pin or paperclip through , and measuring the free play. Fairings
Gary, The fairing will really do little to help when the speeds get above 100. I have had mine above 100 numerous times. What I have noticed is body position helps tremendously when at those types of speeds. Not only being tucked but arm/elbow position as well as knees and feet (toes pointed up or down) will make noticeable differences. The fairing will help, depending on your height, in everyday riding. And yes a Max is capable of ~150. I have had mine to 155, at least that is what my buddy said. I personally didn't have the balls to look down to see what the speedo registered Scott At 03:57 PM 12/09/2000 -0800, you wrote: Don, Took my Max from 0 to 120+ lastnight. Re: Who has? take care
Congratulations on your choice, Just a word of someone who's been there, done that and so on. I agree that there are many things you can do with a Busa you can't with the max, but still I do not agree with your statement "if you can't beat them join them". I think the idea is more like cover the space that Max does not, and that is low flying and high speeding with a good handling and good braking capabilities. From traffic light to traffic light your Max is the bike, not even your new Busa can beat it. riding up to 70 MPH Max is the bike once again, being able to look around you while doing so instead of crouching down and barely seeing the white lines on the road is the huge difference between both machines. Low end torqueno comments. When you go to some bike gathering and you park your brand new Busa, if you see a Max, just notice how bystanders and bikers spend more time looking at the Max than any other bike around, that's also one of the Maxe's well deserved pole positions. (Hell, I should of brought the Max instead!.will happen many times). There's one very important warning I don't want to let go without saying and that is, take care, all high speed bikes can fool you regarding the velocity you are doing, the Max wobbles, shakes, the wind rips you off the bars, at any rate warns you well in advance, but the low flight missiles have none of that, so take care.
