The tank is listed at 890.00 DEM on Evo Tec's site, which works out to
404.136 USD as of 12/5/2000, unless I missed something. Perhaps that is
including the shipping from germay to GB?

hi guys. can anyone tell me if 'works shocks' are available in the uk (if
so
where from?).

'H' (Exactrep) may have a set in stock, but last time I spoke to him
he was having big problems with supply. I can arrange a set from the US if
you get stuck.

also if i raise the rear end (aprox 1in) and lower the front end (aprox
1in,
by sliding the yokes down fork legs) will this benefit the
cornering/handaling? or just make the max weave more?

Change the fork springs (Progressive/Race Tech), add R.Tech valve
emulators dump the air in the forks for a world of difference...

what about rear wheel conversion, and radial tyres, dose this make
enough difference to be worth the cost??

Modern (radial) tyres are highly recommended by everyone who's done
it, "worth the cost" depends on how much/which wheels etc..

dose custom fitting a fram mount fairing help the handling?
Wind buffeting; yes (depending how big your are), handling; wouldn't
like to say...

. but i haven't noticed any high speed weave yet (but i haven't
been over 145mph yet).

You won't get there on a standard Max, either ;-) ..usually appears
at 110ish..

i have noticed that if you treat it like a motocrosser, e.g. keep the
power on right through the bends, its quite good fun (hard work though!).

you're not wrong..

keep your mirrors cleen people...val.

Where in the UK are you? Checked out the UK VMax Club

Val, it will quicken the steering. Changing the wheels? If you like the
truck tires that came on a max stay with them, but if you want a endless
selection do the 17's. BBR has a nice rear wheel using a Suzuki donor,
fully polished, for 625.00 US. Works shocks are available directly from
them, it takes around 4 weeks when you order them. They're not setting
on a shelf, but build to your specs.

My thoughts also :)

Evo Tec have tested the tank size against wheels up to 6x17" (don't know
whether it HAD to be checked for clearance or not..). My feeling is that
they've expanded the tank in a number of directions, grabbing whatever space
is available that doesn't infringe on the suspension, wheel etc...
Whichever way they've done it, January deliveries of the 20 ltr tank are
sold out, February nearly sold also..

There are already lots of customers in the US waiting for shipping to begin,
when it does Uncle Festers will be offering at least 10% discount..

Re: [Vmax] 4/1 headers

2000-11-07 Thread Steve Morris, SMS

HI STEVE,

Is the new UFO 4/2 header supposed to make more RWH than a kerker 4/1
with stage 7 carb mods ?
EXPECT 6 TO 8 BHP FROM THE UFO SYSTEM - MORE FUEL-EFFICIENT
(SMALLER JETS REQUIRED) THAN KERKER, WILL RUN 'OUT OF THE BOX' WITHOUT
REJETTING!

I've never met anyone at UFO or purchased any of their products, but
they seem to really be on top of the Vmax thing..I was really
surprised recently when they posted some et slips from the drag strip using
Jons internally stock 85 Vmax ..with just the VGAS carbs added and a
KERKER 4/1 they made some really good rwh. I gotta admit I
freaked out when the test showed a KERKER 4/1 header used !
JON DOES NOT JUST 'TALK THE TALK' - BACKS UP EVERY CLAIM WITH FACTS
AND/OR DYNO FIGURES :)

Why wasn't the new 4/2 used for this test? It looks to me like they are
admiting it does NOT make more rwh than a kerker 4/1. Have I missed
something here ?
THE NEW SYSTEM IS JUST IN PRODUCTION.. PRIORITY HAS BEEN GIVEN TO
CUSTOMERS' BIKES. JON ALREADY HAD A KERKER ON HIS '85 WANTED TO PUT TO
REST SOME OF THE TALK OF 'STANDARD' VMAX 1/4 MILE TIMES.. (ALSO SHOWS WHAT
VGAS CAN DO ;-)

If I get the Kerker 4/1 and have to remove the centerstand and mounting
tabs do I have to "cut" the mounting tabs off or just unbolt them ?
CUT

The new Hindle 4/1 is looking like my choice more and more every day,
unless some new news comes out on the UFO unit..I want chrome or
polished stainless steel from the front to back.
UFO CAN PRODUCE THE HEADERS/PIPEWORK IN S/STEEL FOR YOU. MY ALLOY
SILENCERS ARE 'MIRROR POLISHED'. ASK JON ABOUT THE CHROME OPTION - THE
WHOLE IDEA IS THAT THE VMAX NOW HAS A COMPLETE PERFORMANCE SYSTEM ESPECIALLY
BUILT FOR IT, NOBODY WILL GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO PLEASE A CUSTOMER LIKE
J.CORNELL. HOWEVER, IF YOU SPECIFICALLY WANT 4-INTO-1 THEN
KERKER/HINDLE/MARKS..

Where is a good place to buy the Hindle 4/1 header ?

 Uh Steve,

 You didn't respond to the question. e.g. I'm 6'3" with a 35" inseam.
Lowering my seat 3" would cramp my legs up like a gorilla on a kiddie
trike.
Since the seat to peg distance on a stock seat leaves me cramped already,
lowering it another 3" really doesn't seem like a great idea. I'm looking
to
go the other way and it appears Corbin is the only option. If anybody else
has long legs and an aftermarket seat they like, I'm all ears. I really am
not even slightly interested in hearing how many happy ownders of RMS and
UFO seats there are unless those owners have inseams over 34". If I really
wanted to have my legs more pretzelled I'd get a Ducati.

Re: UFO

2000-11-01 Thread Steve Morris, SMS

Regarding the UFO exhaust range, this is what I've picked up so far (Hal can
confirm / deny!):

Seen the pics of the Carbon, Oval can, jet-coated option on Hal's bike,
LOOKS = tops.. (I'll post pics when my Alloy, Round can system arrives soon)
;
From what Hal says (and those who've heard it) SOUNDS = tops (a .WAV sound
file will be posted on UFO's ASAP);
FITs straight on without mods required.. clears oil filter, centrestand
retained..
According to Jon Cornell, and I've no reason to doubt him, the UFO system is
also more "fuel-efficient", requiring smaller jets than the competition.
And it runs true "out of the box" without the need for jetting, putting out
an extra 6 - 8 bhp over the standard system (I think I got that right..).
Jon has finished most of the tests true to form will be posting the data
dynos to back up any claims.

Sorry if this sounds like an advertisement. I've spoken to Jon on many
occasions recently regarding my own VGas exhaust order and you won't
believe how enthusiastic he is about the new system. Its about time someone
came up with a Range of exhausts that's designed and built specifically for
the VMax, without having to compromise on e.g. performance / centrestand /
looks / whatever.. hats off to him.

I think it would be helpful for many systems to advertise their
specifications . primary and collector diameters, weight,
available coatings, construction material, secondary modifications
required for installation .. etc ... Then the real biggie is how it
looks and sounds ... which makes actually seeing one installed and
talking to the owner who has had to live with it for the first few
months so valuable. I know how I am .. a product could be clearly
superior in all measurable categories ... but in the case of the
exhaust system if I didn't like how it looked or sounded ... it
wouldn't be going on the bike .. and I think for most products ...
there is such a wide application/personal preference range that you
would never hardly ever be able to say "that is the best one of those"
... I am just glad to see there are so many new choices for
available dual exhausts ... this is an improvement over a year or so
 ago .
 IMHO as always

 Yo Vgas'rs!!

I have 39 mm FCR Kehin on my Vmax and am having some problems getting the
 set up right.

Originally I had 145 mains and 60 pilots. The bike ran fat everywhere.
The
plugs were fowled, the exhaust was coated with soot (inside) and the
mileage
was half of what is was before. Others tell me they got a slight increase
 in mileage.

At this time we have changed the mains down to 135, the pilots to 55 and
the
mixture is out by ~3 turns. The bike runs better but is still fat from 0
to
1/2 throttle. There is a flat spot around 3-4K. Mileage has increased by
 ~40%.

My next step is going to be putting in 130 mains and then 50 or 45 pilots.

I could certainly use some insight into getting the big guy running the
way
 it should.

UFO ( http://www.ufocycles.com ) is bringing out a whole new range of

Kerker and Hindle.. 4-into TWO system, retaining the centrestand. Photos
will be on the site soon, no doubt, with dyno charts to back figures up, but
the options on offer are (deep breath):

Alloy, Carbon or Titanium silencers, oval or round, 12", 16" perhaps other
sizes, mounted at standard height or raised (similar to Ducatti-style).
Headers pipework in s/steel or jet-coated. Silencers intermediary pipes
are interchangeable, so you can chop change between hi low, carbon
alloy etc.. expect highest quality straight fit. And yes, I've ordered a

Re: [Vmax] Forwarded Mail - eBusiness RANT !!

2000-10-08 Thread Steve Morris, SMS

That's a good point, Mike, there are a few ways of arranging your email (and

day to sort reply to, and most (if not all) being relevant to the
business, I can understand the difficulties Jon others face.. and (ii)
any VMax products or services are ON-topic, IMO..

I have to confess that this isn't a totally unbiased reply. Having dealt
with Jon Cornell over the past couple of months I can honestly say I find
him genuine hard-grafting. His demand for quality is like nothing I've
seen before. When replies to my own emails have been slow it's usually
because he's been in the workshop 18+ hours!

Jon Cornell's response concerns me. When I posted a few days ago asking
about Electrex one of the replies was:

"no but how many times do u have to respond to something an not get an

This reply is only indicative of an attitude rather than providing
feedback.

Everyone wants to have an "eBusiness". Everybody wants to have a web site,
 blah, blah, blah. Thanks IBM...

I feel like companies that aren't prepared to take their online presence
seriously are just acting like wallpaper. This is NOT an attack on
Electrex
or UFO nor is it in defense author of the original e-mail (sorry for the
run-on). It is a trend that has been growing for some time.

Now, since I am sure to be flamed for this statement I will back up my
comments with an offer to counsel Jon and any other folks on ways to
improve
their online presence and response time to e-mail/web requests.

As for the rest of us, set your e-mail app to request delivery and read

Don, you should get upto 6" rim in the stock swingarm, 5.5" to be on the
safe side. Don't know about the wheelie bars, probably well worth checking
out a few "drag" sites lists.. Careful with the driveshaft - "rumour" has
it that SOME (!) flex is built into the design to reduce the 'torque twist'
(sorry about the highly technical jargon!) chances of the shaft snapping..
I know of one or two Maxers who have built stronger shafts only to have them
snap in no time. Albeit the bhp's were far from standard

5.5" and 7" wide slick in 18" rim size. Also, are there wheelie bar kits
available for the max, or will I have to fabricate them? One more thing,
 who makes a stonger-than-stock driveshaft?
