Re: Blue print engine.

Jim a good mechanic will "blue print" the motor. If you don't check all
clearances when putting one together, its not gonna last. A friend here
that has a shop will do mine when I do a 1327. He builds alot of motors
that see alot of abuse. Some of his past motors have helped the likes of
Colin Edwards, Tom Kitts, Doug Toland, John Kociniski and more get where
they are. A 600 GSXR that he did for Joe Prissano last year would have
qualified 14th for the Daytona Super Bike race.

metal, drill a small hole that you can install a small bulb. One from
the instrument panel, or one from a accessary turn indicator. Wire it in
with the blue wire in the headlight that is for the running lights in
the front turn indicators. It won't draw much and wil look like your
headlight is on. Add a switch for the low beam to cut it off during the
day, thats the green wire. If you need to get someones attention just
flip the high beam on.

You can't drill the pilots, even if you could find a drill small enough.
Its too critical, .0005 makes a big difference. Thats about 1/6 the
thickness of a hair. The pilots are available from KN in Oklahoma. If
your below 1000ft altitude, then the 42.5 pilots. up to 2000ft. the
40.0. Since your changing the fuel and not the airjets, its more
critical to not go overboard. On the floats you have to take the carbs
part, but the only way to do it. You can leave them in pairs, you don't
need to seperate them completely. Turn them upside down when you have
the covers off, you want the float to be slightly above level. You may
want to make a gage to get them as close as possible. If you need more

UFO

2000-10-23 Thread donald smith

Scott, John doesn't like my reply? I see things as they are, its like
being kind of pregnant. Either the rabbit died or it didn't. Yes I'll
stay with Mark's system. John was supposed to come up with this new
system? Its the same as Mark's', but doesn't have a balance tube, and
cost more. Purpose for the balance tube?? It helps the midrange and also
makes for a queiter system. Proof? Too may dyno runs to back it up.
PCWs' carb setup over Johns'? Yes, I've seen it personally, installed
some also, and was there when the dyno runs were made. It does make more
power, no doubt about it, and cheaper, also. That and stickng out in the
air? Right where some shit bird can come along and stick a handful in
one and you walk home. He doesn't like my attitude? It only gets worse.
People want an honest opinion, unbiased? I'll give it to them. As far as
these big dyno no's with stock carbs? I've been talking to some tuners
in NC, IL, OK, and FL, yes they have experience with a Vmax. If it walks
like a duck, talks like a duck, and looks like a duck?

Re: BRAKES

300mm full floaters and gold 4 piston calipers from Brembo. It comes as
a kit complete with all bolts, brackets, new braided lines. Just get the
junk off and feel what its like to have serious stopping power. When you
open the box it looks too pretty to put on, you just want to look at it!

Thomas, a question. Did you take the metal strip out at the bottom of

Re: BRAKES

2000-10-23 Thread donald smith

93 and later are better that the 85-92, but they're nowhere near the
Brembos. If you bought the rotors alone their 500.00 a set. Figure the
liens are 100.00. Then you have to pay someone to make the brackets.
When you add it up, its not as bad as it seems. Your getting a quality
package ready to bolt up.

Steve thanks. No one makes a cil that is a bolt up. You can adapt the
universal ones from Dyna, not easy but possible. The stick coils are
going to be high unless you find a set from a parts bike.

Vic, no short cut. Figure 2-3 hours and watch your fingers. Its worth
it, gives you a chance to check things. When was the last time you
checked the swingarm bearings and greased them?

Richhie, if the battery wasn't charged right to begin with its toast

broken and causing the loss.

Re: Deck heights

2000-10-22 Thread donald smith

Rey, the clay does work well. With todays motors being pushed more and
more, the valve to piston clearance is getting tighter. Back before rev
limiters motors were built called free reving. With the valves at full
lift and the piston at the top nothing would hit. You machined the
pockets till you got the clearance. Now with pistons being thinner you
don't have the room to do this on a production motor.

Re: Deck heights

2000-10-22 Thread donald smith

Steve, on the 1327 pistons they come with 14 to 1 comp. They cut them
back to 12 to 1. I believe you right about the Polaris motor being a
free reving motor. You have to have the metal undreneath to cut the
pockets deeper. Retarding the intake cam will lower the pressure and
comp. ratio also.

Re: solid mounts

2000-10-22 Thread donald smith

Vic, you can take a 3/8" bolt thru them and take some emery cloth and
take the OD down to 1.097-95. They don't put much grease in them at the
factory, plus gives you a chance to inspect everything. Who knows what
you'll find.

In the next week I'm going to be getting rid of some of the motor parts
I won't need from the one I just bought. Motor had just over 3,000
miles, an 85', I verified thru the case no's. The rods and pistons, I'm
using Carillo's, also fiber clutch discs, extra diaphram spring.
