But with the app you mentioned Tom you have to get assistance from a
sighted person to set up the route? I don't have any sighted people
around to help me.

Hi And, since you already have blindsquare, you may not need it. However, what
I like about it is that as you are walking down the road, it will tell you the
house numbers as you pass. Only the house numbers. Then, if you change streets,
it will tell you the new street, And then the address is only just the numbers.
It doesn’t babble a lot. It does not do turn by turn directions, it just helps
you keep track of where you are and what street you’re crossing.

There are so many GPS items which are accessible depending on the

Hi Terri. Like I mentioned in another post, I recommend “Ariadne GPS.” You
will have to use sighted assistance to set up the original route but you can
add Points of Interest along the way that mark cross walks, streets, doors,
beginnings of sidewalks and anything else that fits your fancy. When sidewalks
don’t line up properly, it’s easy to mark locations on both sides of the
street.

Hello everyone,

I was wondering, is there an accessible GPS App that I could use with my
iPhone?

It doesn't matter so much if it is free, or if I have to pay for it.

I am looking for something that can show me what is around.

But also, a way to know where possible sidewalks are. But I am uncertain
as to whether or not such a thing exists.

I am wanting to be able to walk to the rec center that is only about a
4th of a mile from my home.

However, I don't know if this is even possible.

Any thoughts, or suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

2023-03-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Any of the ones Richard mentioned, but don't you have organisations offering
O training especially if it's such a short route you want to learn? For a
quarter mile that would be much better than trying to use a GPS app which may
or may not help a lot.

Re: Looking for accessible GPS App

2023-03-15 Thread Richard Turner
I know of no GPS apps that will tell you about sidewalks. But, Apple Maps has
gotten a lot better recently. Google Maps is also very good. You might also
like GoodMaps outdoors. They give a little more detail on intersections. Those
are all free apps.
