I see no horizontal scrolling both on Chrome and Firefox on Android. I use the 
mobile website daily for to run our twitter feed Maybe I am missing 
something ?

Maybe Andreas knows more about this however, it would be really good to
ensure the look is similar or at least coherent with the one of
http://www.libreoffice.org . I may be wrong however, but Bootstrap was used
as part of the design of the main website.

If it were not the case Florian, could we fund such a design work?

 I can understand your frustration here (as a former person in charge of the 
website I received plenty of late minute feedback despite having requested 
those months before its completion) however the status of the new templates & 
extension website is a bit unclear to me. The code may be on github but it is 
not deployed here on our own infrastructure . You asked for feedback multiple 
times and I understand you are still waiting for an actual visual template (aka 
a skin or perhaps more). Do you have a roadmap for that? Should we see for a 
tender to have a designer adapt the new platform to a nice visual experience? 
Clearly the current one is lagging and is outdated in its design as well as in 
its delivery mechanism and we cannot wait a few more years.

This prompts me another question : when do you think the extension and template 
website could be ready so that a designer can work on its look

I have some mixed feelings about this. Not because of the idea but because this 
entails two constraints:
* we must ensure screenshots are regularly updated for each release with the 
right highlighted feature 
* the inclusion of screenshots directly into the new features page or what is 
LibreOffice implies some major rework of these 2 pages - it is not wrong to do 
it but it will be quite some work.

The TDF website itself runs on Silverstripe and as such it should be 
localizable. The only thing that would be complicated is that our statutes and 
the legal imprint are really only legally binding in German (can't remember if 
the English translation was validated though) but besides that I am not sure I 
understand why the website would not be localizable. 

If this is a matter of resources, of course everybody can live with the older 
pages on the  native lang sites and maybe add something saying the updated, 
reference version is online at http://documentfoundation.org .

We cannot force people to test the platform :-) So we may want to go ahead
with the tendering process and make sure tests are included in the migration
tender. Does it make sense?

For the design of the new site, I would strongly suggest to rely on the
designer of the main web site, so that we remain coherent and consistent with
the same design (small variations are of course possible).

When could we start the tendering process (knowing there are two items here,
one being related to design, the other one to the platform development and
migration)?

- We are talking here of the website at 
http://www.documentfoundation.org , not www.libreoffice.org
- I think we should add a tab or a menu pointing to www.libreoffice.org 
and another one to www.documentliberation.org . Or better yet, a page 
presenting the two projects.

Hi,

I'm the author of the Writer extension Organon for LO/OO. I tried to 
keep it up to date on the LO extensions site, but compared to OO's 
extensions site and its mechanism, I found it really hard to manage it 
for LO. I think, LO's mechanism is a bit overwhelming.

The releases of my extension are disappearing every once in a while and 
I can't see any reason for that. Two days ago I updated it and I could 
see the release. Yesterday it was gone. After logging in, I found the 
release, changed something and it appeared again. Today it once more 
disappeared.

Can anyone tell me what might go wrong? Any common mistakes I'm trapped by?

And one more question: Is there any possibility to see how often the 
extension was downloaded? As a developer it would be nice to see.

the explanation is very easy. We activated the default sign up
mechanism
in the past, but we got about 600 or 700 accounts with no contribution
(robot accounts or the like) for each site. We had to manual clean up
both sites (extensions and templates) and that was a very tedious task
(three people worked on that over many days) (comparing lists and
deleting unused accounts).

The form at the bottom of the site is protected with a question-answer
proof and I could manage the requests.

If we need an additional solution I could create a second form for each
site, if people need an account to rate products.


Then I misunderstood what you first wrote: I thought you wanted people to write 
about their reasons to request access. A captcha would fix this I guess?

I tried it but a captcha didn't help (only for a short time). Thus I
used a question-answer proof for the form. That seemed to work since
more than a year.

 We are getting many people in the users list complaining that this
 information is hard to come by.

Maybe  it would be good to 1) get the right information (and not calling
one branch stable but not the other one 2) make the small text I quoted
more visible on the page ? 

Also, branches are widely used elsewhere, so we're not doing something
unique.

 
 2)  The Requirements up to 4.2.x are right but from there on they have
 changed. The Pentium III and the AMD 32 bit processors (although hard to
 come buy - but still installed in a lot of PC's in the third world ...
 where LibO could make a huge difference) are not supported any more (as of
 4.3.1). As are not supported the older OS X 10.7 (as of 4.4.1).

Ah, indeed. Thanks for catching this!

 
 These of course are not Website problems, but the information is, to
 facilitate the user to download the latest 4.2.x (32bit non SSE2 CPU's) or
 the latest 4.3.x (OS X 10.7) the requirements should be re-done with help
 from the devs.

Support (as in security and support in general) is no longer provided on
this, so we're not going to offer unsupported versions. 

 
 It should also be noted that these legacy versions should be PROTECTED from
 exclusion of website / databases downloads FOREVER (for this legacy
 compatibility reasons).


These legacy versions are listed somewhere but again, they are not
supported. Some of them contain dangerous unpatched flaws. So we're not
offering them even for compatibility reasons. On the other hand, our
Document Liberation project is providing more and better document
filters to increase compatibility so it can only improve with newer
versions.

[libreoffice-website] Bugzilla accounts not working

Hi,

We are getting several reports on twitter and one more coming from myself that 
attempting to create a bugzilla account doed not work as the confirmation email 
with the password does not seem to get sent. 

Aside myself I can count over 5 to 6 other cases since the Bugzilla migration.

(you already fired up). Then start with './bin/zeoserver start' the
server. Afterwards fire up './bin/instance start' the first instance
(you could also do first a 'fg' instead of 'start'. If fg
(foreground/debug-mode) runs fine, you can kill it with ctrl + c and
fire it up again with 'start'. Once instance is running you could run
start on instance2.

Quick question: how will it affect our Nabble interface? Do we have to change

Yes. As you can see, the list is really full of other mailing lists that
are not related to any kind of support options. However, all these are
usually listed for each team/activity. For instance, localization
(l10n@) should not be listed in the get help section, but is already
accessible through the localization page here:

accessible under the community menu.

 
 
 Anyway, I can see also the spanish and french sites have this page for

  developers.

- a beautiful theme/CSS. 

Right now I am afraid -but perhaps it's too early- that I see none of
that.

PROJECT, DO MORE WITH LIBREOFFICE, GOOD LOOKING DOCUMENTS) – they seem 
to

be unlocalizable; maybe importing the latest translations (see #2) will
make them localized? They are also not localized in French, for 
example;


OTOH, there are rather easy to design. We could probably find the specs 
back...




4) regarding the still existing issue with the non-ISO-1-code-page
characters of the new design-website font (like č, š and ž in
Slovenian, displayed in another sans-serif font), I filed an issue 
here:

ticket was made months ago:

investigated

this – I can see the updated design, it doesn't break for me, but can't

with a bit smaller font size and thus looks better on my screen – could
someone please send me a screenshot of the Slovenian new-design test 
site
with the changed font, then I can report back (or a link to it or apply 
the

new font only onto Slovenian test site in SilverStripe).



I am not sure but I was under the impression we had switched fonts in 
general and that it was now all working, or did I miss something?

What about using a very well mixed conference and take a picture on
purpose? Just ask people to gather in the best mix possible and take a
pictuer from above down.
Ideally have them standing to display the characters LibO. 100 people
should be sufficient, 200 are better and picture taken from above.

Have fun with it.


There may be a need for a better explanation about all this approach. It 
is not enough to come here and make recommendations about what we 
should do. It is even better if you wish to do it yourself :-) , 
therefore contributing to the project. May I suggest you work on this 
picture? Then we could upload it to the website.

I can tell some about this.

We can find some pictures from our (Japanese) community,
the group photo taken at LibreOffice mini-conference in Japan
2013, in the slideshow of the download page with donation
information,

And, as Volker already mentioned,


The Fun project slide on the front page shows people also from Asia


He is my friend and from Japan.

separate wordpress instance. I've put Florian Effenberger in copy of 
this email, he is our executive director. Maybe it is possible to open 
an external Wordpress.com site but we may want to host it as well.

Yes. Note that I am speaking without having seen the staging site. I do see the 
extensions and templates center as having a double workflow. One is for the 
extensions and templates contributors, which Andreas has been dealing with. 

The other one is just as important: it is meant to attract users and increase 
downloads. In other words this site should be a promotional tool. Now I 
mentioned the theme alrezdy but I think what is really important to fix is that 
users need to have a clear download button for each extension that downloads 
the extensions. It is not the case with the current one where they are told 
about the release of the extension which is confusing. Voilà :-)

Someone on Twitter tells us that turning off the lato font would help. Could we 
do this or could we find a viable replacement?

It is not urgent, it only concerns visitors who use Windows xp, 8, 7, vista and 
who use firefox30 and IE 9

Which browsers did you test, and what have your results been?


I run Linux machines, no Windows. I cannot reproduce the problem. For 
the sake of exhaustivity, I have tested different browsers (Firefox, 
Chrome, Epiphany (Gnome Web), Midori, rekonq) and borrowed an ipad, 
where I tested the site with Safari: everything looks normal.


This being said I am dealing with incoming complaints on Twitter almost 
on a daily basis as well as project's mailing lists. Just on Twitter we 
have received over a dozen distinct complaints; On Google + we have 2 of 
them. So far Facebook hasn't come up with anything. Mailing lists here 
(website, + native-language projects) also confirm the issue.


I need to handle these complaints, at least the ones on social networks, 
but we cannot go on for months with no resolution path. I'm not saying 
no one is working on it, not even that the solution is easy to find, but 
if you check RedMine and this mailing list it is not clear for me what 
we are doing to deal with the problem.


If we (as in TDF) have not Windows machine readily available, then we 
must connect with a contributor who can help us with his/her own Windows 
system. I'm happy to help but I need to know the infra team will help.

that's not the problem. We did test with Windows machines, we did even
test with BrowserShots.org, but still, reproducing the problem is

oddwebsiteiss...@documentfoundation.org or whatever. We collect 
everyone's feedback (so far people send us screenshots, their browser 
and OS versions) and see if we can get more details.


The only thing I can say so far is that the issue seems to be spreading 
(i.e the rate of reporting is increasing, which suggests the website is 
not really the problem as we have not changed it that much).


I am happy to organize a low level communications spree on this (no PR 
of course).

would have  the time. Btw we need to update the tip of the week list with

I strongly advocate against it; it would only create more confusion and 
continue into the storyline that fresh=unstable and stable=good. 

No one puts an older software branch in front of the more recent branch. Does 
MS Office advertise MS Office 2010? :-)
