Ah yep, good point -- I've standardised them now :-)

Super, thanks!

Just my obsessive mind, but we have two variants here: 64-bit and 64 bit
(with dash and with space).

Could you standardize with "64-bit" and "32-bit"? So with a dash and
without "s" to the end?[1]

Please note however, South America and Western European countries prefer
"64 bits" and "32 bits".[2]

If I had access to the source code, I could provide guidance here from a
dev point of view if needed :)

OK, I've updated the download page so that the options in the "Choose
your operating system" box now say "32 bit" and "64 bit" instead of
"x86" and "x86_64". I've also changed "Mac OS X" to "macOS".

These are just the short names so it shouldn't affect anything -- I've
tested all the downloads and all seems fine, but let me know if anything
else needs changing!

We did talk about changing "Windows" to "Windows 7/8/10", but I need to
find out when the longer descriptions (function NicePlatform() in
DownloadObject.php) are used...

I agree with this change -- good idea. We also need to change "Mac OS X"
to "macOS". It looks like these names are defined in
mysite/code/DownloadObject.php, eg:

case "win/x86_64" : return "Windows x86_64"; break;
case "mac/x86_64" : return "Mac OS X x86_64"; break;

So I can make the changes myself -- but I just want to check in case it
breaks anything.

Cloph, is it OK to change these?

[libreoffice-website] Use of Windows 7/8/10 (XX bits) instead of Windows (x86|x86_64) on download page

2019-10-08 Thread William Gathoye
Hello everyone,

I have got a question[1] from someone who doesn't seem very tech-savvy
and I tend to agree with him.

On the download page, Windows x86 or Windows x86_64 while perfectly
correct from a CPU architecture are not very understandable terms from
an end user point of view.

Windows advertises Windows 64 bits and never speaks about x86_64 in the
About section of Windows. Could we therefore change in favor of the
following terms instead ? They have the advantage to display and remind
the versions we support.

  * Windows 7/8/10 (32 bits)
  * Windows 7/8/10 (64 bits)
