Re: [libreoffice-website] Various small website update ideas

2017-12-18 Thread Mike Saunders
Hi,

Something else for the list: someone on Twitter pointed out that various
links on our download page are to HTTP, rather than HTTPS:

https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/

For instance, Torrent, Info, Translated User Interface. I can change
those to HTTPS if nobody objects...

Mike

Sure, that'd be good, but that's a much bigger job (like making the
videos).

Yes, it's a lot of work. But community can help :-)

The ideas I proposed are just quick fixes that I could make in
the next week or two, before the Christmas break here starts.

What about thinking about that again in March/April? Inviting the community
to make language-specific version's too.

Hi everyone,

Here are a few ideas I've been collecting in recent months -- just small
tweaks we could make to the main LibreOffice website. Any thoughts on them?

* Discover menu: next to Writer, Calc, Impress etc. should we say what
they do? Like "Writer - word processor"

* http://www.libreoffice.org/discover/libreoffice/ -- add some
screenshots here

* http://www.libreoffice.org/discover/new-features/ -- do we need that
big green image at the top? It doesn't seem to have much meaning

* Also on that page: do we need the collapsible headings? At least in
Firefox, they sometimes get lost behind the floating top panel when you
click on them

* http://www.libreoffice.org/discover/templates-and-extensions/ -- as
there are only two sections there, we can probably remove the
collapsible code as well and just have them static

* http://www.libreoffice.org/discover/screenshots/ -- should we make the
screenshots open in a new tab

* http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/install-howto/ -- change Mac OS X
to macOS (probably need to keep a redirect here though, to stop breakage
in other sites that link to this page)

What about using gif animations to show features 'in action' like
