debian bug 15844 - N changes behavior on symlinks

I can reproduce it on 1.8.1. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=15844repeatmerged=yes - I observed this behavior which is not documented, and I don't think should happen. Suppose ftp://host.com/filename is a symlink to ftp://host.com/realfilename. Saying wget ftp://host.com/filename will download realfilename under the name filename. But add the -N option and wget will merely create a symlink. In both cases, suppose there are no matching local file names. I think correct behavior under -N should be to check the timestamp of the linked file (realfilename) and if the file should be downloaded, proceed as if without -N, that is, download the file but call it by the name of the link. - Any comments welcome. File overwriting question for wget
Hi, I love wget it has been a godsend for many a project for me, thank you for creating it. My questions is that I have noticed the -nc option to not overwrite a file but how can I tell wget to specifically overwrite a file? I have tried a few things and I am unable to keep it from writing new files as file.1 file.2 etc... Please advise. Thanks, Todd
