Re: [Wien] wien2k workshop
Dear Prof. Blaha, Thank you for reaching out to those who were not selected for the workshop. Please is it possible to consider online participation for the lecture sessions? It will be very beneficial and possibly make for wider participation. May I wish you very fruitful workshop. Best regards. C.M.I. Dear Peter Thanks for the reminder. I submitted an application and asked for the grant which was denied. But I would like to attend the workshop anyways. When will we receive the notification of acceptance. In case I am accepted I need to make arrangements here in advanced and ask for funding. I appreciate your feedback. February 2024. The workshop will be held at ICTP (Trieste, Italy) from 08 April to 19 April 2024. As far as I know, the grants to support the attendance of selected participants have been distributed, but I will emphasize that still all participants from developing countries will receive a free (!) WIEN2k license. The participation format will be “in-person” only. The program will have a balance of lectures with illustrative examples and hands-on sessions. We plan to cover a range of topics from basic functionality to advanced developments: density functional theory, band structure, magnetism, relativistic effects, phonons, charge transport, spectroscopy (optics, XANES, EELS, XPS), NMR, Mössbauer, Wannier functions, Berry phase, mapping Berry curvature, topological materials, surfaces. There will be a possibility to show your research by presenting a poster. We anticipate hosting about 50 participants. In order to make the workshop easy accessible we have eliminated the registration fee for all participants. Registration applications will be accepted ONLY through the ICTP portal: https://indico.ictp.it/event/10467 We are looking forward to welcome you in Trieste. Re: [Wien] WIEN2k workshop
Dear wien2k users, Before we receive a further flood of requests of waiving the registration fee on this mailing list: a) I'm NOT the local organizer and we have nothing to do with the financial organization of this workshop. So it does not make sense to ask me for support. b) The local organizer is Dr. Ong, as indicated in the workshop web-page, but I very much doubt that the local organizers have money to support free participation (or even travel and accommodation support). c) Even when there would be some money, the question would be: whom should we support ? Mr AAA or BBB ??? I understand the difficult situation in some countries, but I don't think that the Singapore organizers can support all people from these countries. We have urged the local organizers to make the fee as cheap as possible, and this fee includes also coffee and lunches, so these are real costs for the organizers which they need to get back with the registration fee.
