 Hi all,

The design competition closed last week. Those who submitted entries -
thank
 you!

Voting closes in 5 days time. The winner will be cut and built into the
new
 WSG site. Start voting!

According to ZenGarden, CSS allows us to easily have all 5 designs at
the click of a link. You could add a design flag to each member and let
them have which ever design they wanted yeah?

Now I see how few entries came in I'm thinking I should have somehow found the time to enter ... I suppose it would be unbelievably bad form to ask for a time extension would it? (he says in tiny mouse-like voice) ...
Congrats to those who did take make effort to enter.

Re: [WSG] WSG design competition voting time

2004-05-17 Thread Neerav
IMHO ...
I like Hugh Todd's the best
http://webstandardsgroup.org/design/hugh-todd.jpg

The Lindsay Evans Russ Weakley designs were OK but too derivative of
the current look the yelloe in the Susan Gossman design was too bright

One possible flaw in voting is that we cant tell what code been used in
each site, in terms of efficiency, page weight (size in kb) and which is
most compatible across browsers.

Surprisingly, we only had four submissions, which is a bit of a
disappointment, but for those that entered there is a much higher chance of
winning the prize. :)
The entries can be viewed and voted for here:
http://webstandardsgroup.org/design/
You will need to log in to enter. You can click on a thumbnail to see a full
size image. To vote, choose a favourite AND rate each of the designs.
Ratings range from 2 (love it), 1 (like it), 0 (indifferent), -1 (dislike)
and -2 (really dislike).
Voting closes in 5 days time. The winner will be cut and built into the new
WSG site. Start voting!
Thanks

You should take your tongue out of your cheek! They're all very good and
it would be a true testament to Web Standards to allow alternate styles,
even if only one is the main style.

The voting page, however, has a major usability flaw. I almost voted
backwards (-2 instead of 2) because ranking usually increase as you go
further right.

It's a design. There shouldn't be any code behind it at all (for the
moment). But, if code was used to produce the design, that is irrelevant
as I would expect the code to be optimised for a production site.

RE: [WSG] WSG design competition voting time

2004-05-17 Thread Peter Firminger
Hi,

I really don't think we want to discuss people's voting reasons on list.
That can be done on http://discuss.webstandardsgroup.org/archives/12.htm
if you really want to.

They are flat graphic mock-ups so there is no code at this stage. The chosen
design will be built correctly.

When voting remember that it's a two step process. Pick the one you want in
the first column and then rate each design (reading the column header to see
which column is 2 or -2) in the others.

I won't change it now as that'll make it even more confusing. Love it on the
left!

Oh boy. Thanks for the heads up on that one :)
