Also, some providers add caching proxies, especially when you're using a mobile internet connection. I am using a cable modem connection. On Sat, Feb 11, 2012 at 11:56 AM, Milan Knížek knizek.co...@gmail.com wrote: what is the status with make install for the packages included in nx-libs (i.e. nxcomp, nxcompext, nxcompshad, nxproxy, nxagent, 2goagent)? Unless I am doing something wrong, fakeroot make DESTDIR=/some/path install leads to installation of the libsbinaries to usr/X11R6 and not all components required for x2goagent (incl. x2goagent wrapper itself) are installed anyway. To work around that, I am using install command for all the libs and binaries with the use of the precompiled DEB packages as a template. A second point: in Arch linux, the X2Go packages (incl. nx-libs) are in AUR (user-contributed repository), which does not support so called split packages (i.e. I cannot compile the nx-libs tar ball and create several packages in one go like you do in Debian) [1]. So at the moment, the semi-automatic build process has to download and compile major part of nx-libs repeatedly for each of the dependency (nxcomp: requires nx-x11; nxagent: requires nx-x11, nxcomp, nxcompext, ..., nx-x11; etc...). It works, nonetheless it is slow and inefficient. Yes, the makefile currently distributed with nx-libs (redistributed) is broken as you say. It sounds like someone is working on it (see post from Michael Kromer). As for the recompilation difficulty, I made an Archlinux package that installs everything from the nx-libs tarball at once, rather than splitting it into a lot of separate packages. ___ X2Go-Dev mailing list X2Go-Dev@lists.berlios.de https://lists.berlios.de/mailman/listinfo/x2go-dev
[X2Go-Dev] nx-libs breaks with libpng 1.5.x
Archlinux just upgraded libpng 1.4.x to 1.5.8, and it appears to have broken nx-libs. With libpng 1.4.8, I was able to build nx-libs 3.5.0.9 and successfully run it with x2goserver, but with libpng 1.5.8, when I try to build nx-libs it gets to compiling Pgn.cpp and fails with errors: g++ -c -O3 -fno-rtti -fno-exceptions -I../nx-X11/exports/include -Wno-deprecated -fPIC -DIN_ADDR_T=in_addr_t -DVERSION=\3.5.0\ -DPACKAGE_NAME=\\ -DPACKAGE_TARNAME=\\ -DPACKAGE_VERSION=\\ -DPACKAGE_STRING=\\ -DPACKAGE_BUGREPORT=\\ -Wall -Wpointer-arith Pgn.cpp Pgn.cpp: In function ‘int DecompressPng16(unsigned char*, int, unsigned int, unsigned int, unsigned char*, int)’: Pgn.cpp:417:15: error: invalid use of incomplete type ‘png_info {aka struct png_info_def}’ /usr/include/png.h:720:16: error: forward declaration of ‘png_info {aka struct png_info_def}’ Pgn.cpp: In function ‘int DecompressPng24(unsigned char*, int, unsigned int, unsigned int, unsigned char*, int)’: Pgn.cpp:568:15: error: invalid use of incomplete type ‘png_info {aka struct png_info_def}’ /usr/include/png.h:720:16: error: forward declaration of ‘png_info {aka struct png_info_def}’ Pgn.cpp: In function ‘int DecompressPng32(unsigned char*, int, unsigned int, unsigned int, unsigned char*, int)’: Pgn.cpp:712:15: error: invalid use of incomplete type ‘png_info {aka struct png_info_def}’ /usr/include/png.h:720:16: error: forward declaration of ‘png_info {aka struct png_info_def}’ On the libpng homepage, I found this note http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/libpng.html The libpng 1.5.x series continues the evolution of the libpng API, finally hiding the contents of the venerable and hoary png_struct and png_info data structures inside private (i.e., non-installed) header files. Instead of direct struct-access, applications should be using the various png_get_xxx() and png_set_xxx() accessor functions, which have existed for almost as long as libpng itself. (Apps that compiled against libpng 1.4 without warnings about deprecated features should happily compile against 1.5, too.) I don't see any warnings from my previous build logs with libpng 1.4.8, but since the compiler was given the option -Wno-deprecated I'm not sure that the warnings would have shown up anyway. And it does appear that the Pgn.cpp functions DecompressPngXY() are trying to access the png_info struct, which is now private in libpng 1.5.8. What do you think is the best way to fix this issue? Would an upstream bug report to the NX folks be likely to accomplish anything? I'm not sure how big a job it will be to patch all of the code in nx-libs that attempts to access png_info or png_struct. ___ X2Go-Dev mailing list X2Go-Dev@lists.berlios.de https://lists.berlios.de/mailman/listinfo/x2go-dev

By the way, there is a workaround for this problem. In my case, I have a 1920x1200 monitor connected to my Windows computer, but I do not want to use x2go client in fullscreen mode. I want the x2go window to be as big as it can be without covering up the Windows taskbar. So what I do is set a custom resolution of 1910x1140. Then when x2go client opens the window, it is too small to display a 1910x1140 desktop (which is what x2go client starts up). The easy way to see the problem is to open a terminal window, then hit the fullscreen icon at the top right of the terminal window that you just opened. Then hold down return until the terminal window fills up. Then hit return a couple more times, and type something. You will find that you command line prompt is below the bottom of the x2go client window, and you cannot see what you are typing. Anyway, the workaround is to immediately resize the x2go window larger after you first log on. In my case, it is easy -- I just click the fullscreen icon in the top-right of the windows x2go client window. ___ X2go-Dev mailing list X2go-Dev@lists.berlios.de https://lists.berlios.de/mailman/listinfo/x2go-dev

In that case, perhaps I can assist with getting a stable source tarball release together, but I will need some assistance. Slightly different than the problem you described is that for me, while it is USUALLY limited to firefox freezing while the other applications continue to work, sometimes it can get into a state where the other applications freeze as well. Re: [X2go-dev] x2go with Gnome 3 ?
2011/5/3 Milan Knížek knizek.co...@volny.cz: Gnome 3 requires a hw support from the video card. Before the upgrade, have you successfully used some compositing window manager through x2go (compiz, metacity with compositing enabled)? I doubt so... Up until now, I have not heard any news that Gnome 3 would provide a fallback, which would be visually similar to the normal Gnome 3. (Canonical has such a plan for its Unity - to be released in autumn 2011.) This is by the way the reason, why I am in a search for a GNOME replacement... No, I did not use a compositing window manager, just the default Gnome 2 settings which did work fine with x2go. The fallback with Gnome 3 is not at all similar to normal Gnome. It is not really a desktop environment at all -- seems like just a window manager. I have never tried KDE before, but I tried it after having this problem. I could not stand it, and it had some compatibility problems (it would not work properly with gnome-terminal -- the windows kept auto-shrinking themselves). Then I tried LXDE, and that works great with x2go and all my usual programs. I also like the feel of it, and it seems fast (KDE felt slow to me). So it looks like I am switching to LXDE. ___ X2go-dev mailing list X2go-dev@lists.berlios.de https://lists.berlios.de/mailman/listinfo/x2go-dev
[X2go-dev] x2go with Gnome 3 ?
Has anyone successfully run x2goserver(-one) with Gnome 3 ? I just upgraded my Archlinux system to Gnome 3, and x2goserver-one stopped working with Gnome. It gave a message about hardware not being suitable and it is reverting to gnome fallback. Unfortunately, it seems it was a one-time message, but I cannot get the message back, otherwise I would post the exact error message. What happens is that I end up with an x2go session with a plain desktop and a couple menus of apps, and that is all. If no one has gotten x2go working with Gnome 3, can anyone suggest where I need to start looking to solve the problem? I don't really know where to start. I already tried /usr/bin/gnome-session as a custom command from the x2go client, but that made no difference, and now I am stuck on what to look at to troubleshoot the problem. ___ X2go-dev mailing list X2go-dev@lists.berlios.de https://lists.berlios.de/mailman/listinfo/x2go-dev

Re: [X2go-dev] Looking for information on the future of x2go (and some other x2go-related stuff)
I'm running Sqeeze as my test system, tried both esound and pulseaudio, but I have no sound when playing youtube videos in a rootless Iceweasel (Firefox) window. No full Gnome or KDE desktop environment installed, so not sure if it would work with a fullscreen session. Client: X2Go Client 3.01-18, Windows 7 Home Premium Any ideas? Try the 3.01-13 windows client. I also tried the 3.01-18 windows client (with built-in X-server, not vcxsrv), and sound was broken. But sound works in -13. In -18, sound was so broken that it was causing freezes when some applications tried to pay sound. So I guess -18 is now only 1 for 3 for sound -- worked for Sullivan, failed for Williams and Baur. ___ X2go-dev mailing list X2go-dev@lists.berlios.de https://lists.berlios.de/mailman/listinfo/x2go-dev
[X2go-dev] Windows client 3.01-18, VcXsrv 1.9.4.1
I've been using windows client 3.01-13 for a couple months, and it works reasonably well, but I have experienced two consistent problems -- apparently random disappearance of the mouse pointer (fixed by quitting x2go and starting again), and some problems with windows updates, especially with gnome-terminal windows when there is a long scroll job, sometimes the windows do not update (waving the mouse cursor in front of the window usually causes it to update). I decided to test the recent 3.01-18 client and VcXsrv 1.9.4.1. First I just tried 3.01-18 with the built-in xserver. I only tested that for a short time, but one problem I found was that sound was broken. Sound works fine when I go back to 3.01-13, but sound does not work at all with 3.01-18. VLC complains about the ALSA driver and locks-up, adobe flashplayer 64-bit prerelease square hangs. Both apparently related to the broken sound. Moving on, I tried 3.01-18 with VcXsrv 1.9.4.1 for a few hours, mostly web browsing. I did not have the cursor disappear, but I did have a couple serious issues. One was when the screen was not redrawn properly when I dragged a Firefox window around. It seemed random -- I was working fine for about an hour, but suddenly when I tried dragging a firefox window, it left trails everywhere, totally munging the screen. I tried dragging other windows around, and even quitting and restarting x2go, but nothing seemed to be able to redraw the screen properly after that. So I started a new session, and that worked for a while, but then it locked up completely, and I had to kill the session. Is any of this behavior known? If not, what can I do to aid in debugging? With the exception of broken sound (which was repeatable), the other problems seemed random. ___ X2go-dev mailing list X2go-dev@lists.berlios.de https://lists.berlios.de/mailman/listinfo/x2go-dev
