The package has a few patches, which you may be interested in. Definitely, can you send merge requests via https://gitlab.x2go.org/x2go/client/x2goclient/ ? While updating to 4.1.2.3, I stumbled over a build problem: In <https://gitlab.x2go.org/x2go/client/x2goclient/-/commit/fc2db75ab86889cdde6448c4e6e5a25c431d212d>, the MAKEOVERRIDES variable is supposedly set to a list of make variables that are safe to propagate to sub-make processes.* I find that this breaks the build, since gmake (v4.4.1 here) interprets the first word ("SHELL") as target, which it cannot find. Coincidentally, the Arch package <https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/tree/PKGBUILD?h=x2goclient> also has a sed(1) command that cleans out the lists. Please also propose a patch via our gitlab. [X2Go-Dev] Bug#854: Xinerama implementation was moved into nxagent code
Control: close -1 Control: archive -1 The X2Go Xinerama implementation via NXv3 was originally implemented via libNX_Xinerama which had to be used by all X clients running in the remote session (via LD_LIBRARY_PATH). As this was broken by design, Ulrich Sibiller ported the Xinerama functionality from the X client Xinerama Lib into the nxagent Xserver code. Closing this issue, as the Xinerama implementation got refactored long ago as described above. I always use "Not Spam" button for such false-positives but gmail still insists that something is wrong with such messages. I've noticed this problem about a year ago and now it became annoying enough to finally file a bug. I don't know the exact reason but it looks like the problem may hide in the absence of SPF record [1] for lists.x2go.org as this is the only suspicious thing in mail headers. Either way, usage of SPF is considered to be a good practice nowadays and a lot of companies deploy it. 1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sender_Policy_Framework Resolved via: ``` [sunweaver@sunobo cups (debian/main)]$ dig TXT lists.x2go.org ; <<>> DiG 9.18.19-1~deb12u1-Debian <<>> TXT lists.x2go.org ;; global options: +cmd ;; Got answer: ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 56764 ;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 1 ;; OPT PSEUDOSECTION: ; EDNS: version: 0, flags:; udp: 512 ;; QUESTION SECTION: ;lists.x2go.org.IN TXT ;; ANSWER SECTION: lists.x2go.org. 7200IN TXT "v=spf1 include:das-netzwerkteam.de mx ?all" ;; Query time: 51 msec ;; SERVER: 192.168.1.253#53(192.168.1.253) (UDP) ;; WHEN: Mon Jan 22 20:57:37 CET 2024 ;; MSG SIZE rcvd: 98 ``` Mike -- DAS-NETZWERKTEAM c\o Technik- und Ökologiezentrum Eckernförde Mike Gabriel, Marienthaler Str. 17, 24340 Eckernförde mobile: +49 (1520) 1976 148 landline: +49 (4351) 850 8940 GnuPG Fingerprint: 9BFB AEE8 6C0A A5FF BF22 0782 9AF4 6B30 2577 1B31 mail: mike.gabr...@das-netzwerkteam.de, http://das-netzwerkteam.de pgpOkgx4bntjl.pgp Description: Digitale PGP-Signatur ___ x2go-dev mailing list x2go-dev@lists.x2go.org https://lists.x2go.org/listinfo/x2go-dev

For example, lately I did a stupid thing by mistake, I shut down a whole X2Go servers chassis (16 servers at the same time) so 2/3 of my users were kicked off the platform. Problem is that they tried to reconnect before I could restart those servers and thus, the broker did his job and sent them to the remaining servers except that they are 2 times less so they couldn't handle that much people at the same time. We lost precious time by asking people to throttle their connecions and wait for the platform to be ready. Would be great to have a "maintenance mode" option in the x2gobroker-sessionprfiles.conf (or even globally on the x2gobroker.conf), just a switch with a message you can activate so that, in case of trouble, with this switch enabled, users trying to connect would get a message from the broker saying it is in a maintenance mode and they should try again later. --- DISCLAIMER: This e-mail is private and confidential and may contain proprietary or legally privileged information. On Di 10 Aug 2021 18:10:41 CEST, Ulrich Sibiller wrote: Probably it would be best to use dbus for session termination if it is running. This could be one puzzle piece, indeed. Basically, we can kill x2goruncommand and then the session manager would automatically go into logout. However, esp. the GTK desktops (MATE, XFCE, etc.) leave many stray processes around (e.g. gvfsd, colord, etc.). For these friends, some more intelligence is required. Might have that in the X2Go Server renicer code already, because Lee at those early times worked on code that detects the complete process tree of a running desktop session. Nowadays, one could argue that cgroups are another and better alternative. But cgroups are not available on non-Linux, so maybe a kernel-agnostic approach is a more favourable way to go? Re: [X2Go-Dev] X2Go Client Nightly builds for debian bullseye
Hi Mihai, hi Uli, for the DEB builds, switching the symlink is all that is needed. I am also pretty sure that all DEB distro versions we support should be able to handle Qt5 builds just fine. Please note that Qt5 has already been abondened by Trolltech and only receives security support by the KDE team. That is, Qt5 is cold coffee already, Qt4 is a dried out puddle. Don't waste to much time switching between Qt4 and Qt5. Mike Am Sonntag, 2. [X2Go-Dev] Bug#1476: Bug#1476: x2goclient interface code needs refactoring to make it more accessible and make improvements easier to implement and test
Hi Dave, On So 07 Jun 2020 17:49:21 CEST, Dave Chamberlin-Kidd wrote: Package: x2goclient Version: 4.1.2.3 Severity: wishlist Tag: patch There are a number of minor issues, oddities and limitations with the current x2goclient gui which would be good to fix, resolve and improve on. Like all projects however the core team have more important issues to resolve. The code in its current state is difficult to understand and amend and as it has no tests it is risky for developers to make functional changes unless they spend a lot of time getting to know the code and doing extensive manual testing. Attached are 10 small refactorings which start extracting out some of the code into smaller functions. As the code is separated out it becomes easier to understand and change. There are no functional changes in these patches, nor do they attempt or claim to fix any known issues. On their own the benefit of these patches is limited however the hope is that over time I will be able to submit more refactorings as I learn more and then start fixing issues and improving the UI. Extracting out functions is just one of many techniques that can be used to make code cleaner but in my experience it's a good one to start with. It should also be noted that sometimes code is extracted "as is" even when it is clear further refactoring can be done to improve things, this is by design in order to keep risk and size of patches to a minimum. Yes, there are paying customers for X2Go, but booking is done for specific tasks, new features, etc. For X2Go Broker, I provide unit tests along patchwork, but X2Go Broker has unit tests from day one. Testing is part of the development cycle. Meaning you code production code with your left hand. And write test cases with your right hand. From the customer perspective there is no such choice to implement a feature without tests. It's either a new feature with test cases, proper review, and static code analysis, etc. Or they have nothing. This is all very easy, if you started with such a development design from day one. That's why I recommended to introduce unit tests to libx2goclient (we are at day 1.5 regarding this shared lib). Introducing unit tests is painful on existing code, esp. if as comprehensive as X2Go Client. In X2Go, like in many other upstream projects, we have to prioritize. And priority goes in providing continuous compatibility with all those changes that occur out their (DBus user session concept of systemd, desktop environment changes, window manager changes, etc.). I don't want to be rude, but it's a mindset change. Hopefully you get my point. The same is done in all my projects and the company I work for. You, in fact, sounded a little rude to me, indeed. Re: [X2Go-Dev] Unit tests (was: Code formatting)
Hi Melroy, On Mi 20 Mai 2020 17:19:50 CEST, Melroy van den Berg wrote: Ps. Where are the testcases? We may need to start creating (integration/unit) testcases to avoid regression issues when changing code. Most of the X2Go code components have been developed without unit tests. I can only speak for Python X2Go and X2Go Broker (as they are "my" projects). When I started Python X2Go, I was a Python newby and did not know what unit tests were. Several times in the past I though, how cool it would have been to do atomic unit tests on code changes. It would have saved my a lot of trouble. For X2Go Broker, I set up unit tests and several features (not full coverage, I guess) get tested and when I added new code, I offered 1-2 unit tests with the code. However, checking full test coverage via a CI might be the next step here, too. The problem is: where to start. I would _not_ start a CI test scenario where an X2Go client starts a session on some X2Go server and everything gets video recorded and analysed. This is skipping a step. One starting point could be: libx2goclient (gtest based unit tests or similar) x2gothinclient (chroot setup of TCE) x2go-live (chroot setup of X2Go Live Image) x2goserver (start adding unit tests from scratch, in retrospective) For libx2goclient, the unit tests can run at package build time. This can happen on the Jenkins server, we already have anyway. The chroot setup tests must run in containers or VMs, I guess. For this we need a CI worker and a Git interaction that triggers those. This is awkward with the current state of the Git server (git push via SSH login on a plain file system). Thus, one other first step would be e.g. a GitLab (or whatever Git web-based platform) setup. One that supports integrations of CI workers. As you sound pretty enthusiastic about helping out with X2Go, be prepared to put time in any of the above tasks (or any other related task) without much man power coming along to assist you (because we are all lacking time, due to family life, work life, etc.). Although X2Go client is calling [libssh calls](https://api.libssh.org/master/index.html) (libssh version currently in use runtime on my host is: 0.7.0). [X2Go-Dev] Bug#1439: Bug#1439: latest release of x2goclient for Ubuntu has dependency on hello
Hi Mihai, On Sa 15 Feb 2020 17:00:27 CET, Mihai Moldovan wrote: * On 2/15/20 4:23 PM, Ulrich Sibiller wrote: 1. why choose hello and not something that's on the system anyway, like the kernel or bin-utils or some X package? I'm not a DD, so my answer isn't authoritative and Mike#1 can probably explain this better, but optionaldep | hello seems to be a very common pattern in Debian packaging. If a DD sees such a dependency, he'll recognize it and its meaning immediately. Depending on a package in the base system set (i.e., those marked "essential") MIGHT be easier, but this is seems to be generally frowned upon because it makes degrading essential-set packages to optional ones more difficult, if I recall correctly. I've also read that normal (i.e., optional, non-core/essential) packages should generally NOT depend upon packages in the essential-set but just assume them to available unconditionally. 2. why do you want to mak x2gokdriveclient (or is it x2gokdrive?) a hard dependency? Nobody needs it unless he's wants to use it. People can use x2go without it. So I see it as optional either way... Hm, Mike#1 wanted it to be a hard dependency, but moving it to Recommends might make sense after all, since other software that X2Go Client *can* make use of, like FreeRDP2, is also not strictly necessary and merely a recommended package. Note that Debian installs recommended packages by default (unless users explicitly configure or tell the package manager not to do this), so user experience wouldn't be affected by that change anyway. Mihai let's please make a Recommends: relation out of this here. Whenever x2gokdriveclient has been released, then we can still switch this to Depends:.
