While updating to 4.1.2.3, I stumbled over a build problem: In
<https://gitlab.x2go.org/x2go/client/x2goclient/-/commit/fc2db75ab86889cdde6448c4e6e5a25c431d212d>, the MAKEOVERRIDES variable is supposedly set to a list of make variables that are safe to propagate to sub-make
processes.*

I find that this breaks the build, since gmake (v4.4.1 here)
interprets the first word ("SHELL") as target, which it cannot find.
Coincidentally, the Arch package
<https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/tree/PKGBUILD?h=x2goclient>
also has a sed(1) command that cleans out the lists.

Please also propose a patch via our gitlab. Thanks.

What was the motivation of the change? And where does it actually work?

Cheerio,
Hauke

[X2Go-Dev] Bug#854: Xinerama implementation was moved into nxagent code

2024-01-22 Thread Mike Gabriel

Control: close -1
Control: archive -1

The X2Go Xinerama implementation via NXv3 was originally implemented
via libNX_Xinerama which had to be used by all X clients running in
the remote session (via LD_LIBRARY_PATH).

As this was broken by design, Ulrich Sibiller ported the Xinerama
functionality from the X client Xinerama Lib into the nxagent Xserver
code.

Closing this issue, as the Xinerama implementation got refactored long
ago as described above.

Dear maintainers,
All messages that were sent from IPv6 address of
freya.das-netzwerkteam.de are classified by Gmail (and possibly by
other mail providers) as unwanted and unconditionally fall into "Spam"
folder. Judging from message headers Gmail is also unsure about
messages from its IPv4 address but acts more permissive. I always use
"Not Spam" button for such false-positives but gmail still insists
that something is wrong with such messages.

I've noticed this problem about a year ago and now it became annoying
enough to finally file a bug. I don't know the exact reason but it
looks like the problem may hide in the absence of SPF record [1] for
lists.x2go.org as this is the only suspicious thing in mail headers.
Either way, usage of SPF is considered to be a good practice nowadays
and a lot of companies deploy it.

In case of trouble, this is sometimes needed to block any new
incoming connection to the broker (the broker itself, not the x2go
server).
For example, lately I did a stupid thing by mistake, I shut down a
whole X2Go servers chassis (16 servers at the same time) so 2/3 of
my users were kicked off the platform.
Problem is that they tried to reconnect before I could restart those
servers and thus, the broker did his job and sent them to the
remaining servers except that they are 2 times less so they couldn't
handle that much people at the same time.
We lost precious time by asking people to throttle their connecions
and wait for the platform to be ready.

Would be great to have a "maintenance mode" option in the
x2gobroker-sessionprfiles.conf (or even globally on the
x2gobroker.conf), just a switch with a message you can activate so
that, in case of trouble, with this switch enabled, users trying to
connect would get a message from the broker saying it is in a
maintenance mode and they should try again later.

Thanks for giving Pyhoca-GUI and Python3 a shot. Has a python3'ish

In Debian, this is still all on Python2.

I'll take a look the coming week.

In Fedora there is python3-wxpython4. Will probably need some porting.

We have Python3 support in pyhoca-gui around for a while now. However,
the UI is currently +/- broken with latest wxGTK. Also, the taskbar
icon should be rendered via appindicator API. This should all be
coming "soon"...

For those unfamiliar, note that PortableApps is more than just "here's
a portable edition of your app." There is a framework you have to
integrate with. It does not look very hard though, the PortableApps

Note: Even if you are unfamiliar with Docker, you should be able to
make sense of the Dockerfile. Note that it is based on the "fedora"
image, which is a very minimal install of Fedora. Also note that
"start.sh" simply adds a user account named "user" with a fixed
password.

When I connect to a new TERMINAL session (which defaults to
lxterminal), the session appears to work fine. However, at the end, I
often receive an exception like:
x2go.x2go_exceptions.X2GoSessionRegistryException: No session found
for UUID a2f17c6e-fe14-11e4-8e21-001a4a1bd601

I am using this command to connect:
pyhoca-cli --server 127.0.0.1 -p 5 -N --user user
--add-to-known-hosts --libdebug --debug

See attachment for output.

This bug is reproducible, but not 100% of the time. It seems to be
related to timing. It is usually reproduced when I leave lxterminal
open for 10 seconds. (I close lxterminal by typing "exit" or clicking
the X in the window decoration.) It is usually NOT reproduced when I
leave lxterminal open for 2 seconds.

I haven't see this issue around for a while. Please reopen at
https://gitlab.x2go.org/client/libs/python-x2go, if still reproducible.

@mikedep333: Hope you are doing well!!!

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your help over the weekend.

Have you had success already with monkey patching Xlib? Is the
nxproxy build working on Yosemite?

Indeed, with your help I was able to patch Xlib and recompile
nxproxy, so that python-x2go works on yosemite!

here is a short reminder message for sending me the diff between
Python X2Go 0.4.0.8 and your fork for Mac OS X.

My fork of Python X2GO 0.4.0.8 is quite modified to tailor the
specifics of the product my company is working on
(https://www.lytmus.io/ <https://www.lytmus.io/>), but the basic
changes to get it working on Mac and Yosemite are trivial, and I
have included them below.
By the way, I’m happy to test the new release of Python X2go 0.5
over the next weekend, just let me know.

Python-Xlib 0.15rc1
Replace two instances of:
host.startswith('/tmp/')——> host.startswith('/')

NXproxy
Apply this patch and recompile:
http://code.x2go.org/gitweb?p=nx-libs.git;a=commitdiff;h=b0727a02ff417b3983b10e02dbc1eb9a4878b2ac

Neverpanic helped me recompile nxproxy and nxcomp.

python x2go 0.4.0.8
You just need to specify the path to the nxproxy file on the Mac package.
The code below is specific to how I package my app (I use py2app).

else:
self.PROXY_CMD = "/usr/bin/nxproxy

nxproxy', 'nxproxy')

 elif _X2GOCLIENT_OS == 'Linux':
if hasattr(sys, 'frozen'):# if client app is frozen

So it's basically impossible to install a client application without

It seems in your repo for opensuse 13.2 these packages exist.

This has been resolved by now. We actively provide nightly builds for

One step towards that would be a nice desktop icon set.

For now, we use the X2Go Client icon for X2Go Admin Center [1] and

Maybe you can take a look at this some time... (very low prio, this

works well when i select a resolution and run it in a window, but when i

resolution on the client monitor. This results in the Unity controls
being unusable. Before the upgrades, there were no trouble. Is anyone
else experiencing the same?

It is very likely that not nx-libs caused this, but an upgrade of
x2goserver to version 4.0.0.0.

In 4.0.0.0 we have added a configuration file (/etc/x2go/x2goagent)
that disables the GLX and the XFIXES extension. Obviously, disabling
the XFIXES extension causes problems in precise's Unity and the
screen resolution is not set properly anymore.

For now, please comment out this line in x2goagent.options:

 # Unbreaks the gnome3 control center

It seems that the XFIXES extension is used to detect the clients
screen resolution and hand it over to the desktop shell (or xrandr?).

Still a little in the dark, but the above change in
x2goagent.options seems to solve the reported issue. However,
enabling XFIXES in x2goagent again leads to other problems, that
were lately discussed on IRC. Do what causes least problems for you...

Mike's question at the other devs is: wouldn't it be better to
comment out the recommended extension disablings as opposed to
disabling the extension right away and expecting not-so-well tested
errors? Feedback? Opinions?

Report is about resizing of Unity7 (2d). Long gone, not supported anymore.

Hi everyone,

The migration $SHOULD be complete by now.

Mike will follow up with more details and technical info $SOON.

We are happy to announce that our first step of migrating the X2Go
code base to our self-hosted GitLab instance is now complete:

https://gitlab.x2go.org

The last missing piece I set up this week: CI builds via Jenkins
(building all X2Go components against Debian testing):

https://jenkins.x2go.org:8443/job/GitLab_group-x2go/

If you want to contribute to X2Go in the future, please sign up for an
account on https://gitlab.x2go.org. You can either do this by

  * using your GitLab.com login
- and then ping either gratuxri (this is Juri) or sunweaver (this
is me) on

  irc.libera.chat#x2go
- or send an email to either of us (see below)
- we need to activate your account...
  * sending an account request to:
- either Mike Gabriel (this is me): mike.gabr...@das-netzwerkteam.de
- or Juri Grabowski: x...@jugra.de
- or both (and see who is faster ;-) )

Another (still) missing piece is a final consensus about the
continuation of the currently used X2Go Bugtracker (software:
debbugs). We have heard complaints from many people and received
flowers from a few (mostly from Debianities as debbugs is what is
driving Debian bugtracker). We'll have some internal project
management sessions this month to finalize the bug tracker topic. So,
stay tuned... (and ask, if you don't here back from either of us).

What you all can already do: send us MR on https://gitlab.x2go.org,
your contributions are most welcome!!!

If you encounter any issues with the new X2Go GitLab, please let us
know via our x2go-dev mailing list. Thank you!

light+love + let's do some coding

In X2Go, we have /etc/x2go/x2goagent.options. The file allows one to

Uli I recently discussed that the cmdline options should actually
supercede the nx/nx options (so that X2Go-wise, site-admins can enforce
certain agent features that cannot be overridden by X2Go Client client
parameters). For nxagent, we are actually discussing a change in Args.c
to make this possible.

So, for x2gokdrive, I wonder if we could establish such a feature, as
well: let cmdline options (set in /etc/x2go/x2goagent.options) override
nx/nx options coming from X2Go Client and for this we would need to
support setting remoteVars via cmdline options in ddxProcessArgs.

For this, we would have to move the remoteVars init bit over into
ddxProcessArgs (x2gokdriveinit.c, instead of x2gokdriveremote.c).

I tried this locally, but failed, because whenever I referenced
remoteVars from x2gokdriveinit.c the x2gokdrive ran into a segmentation
fault.

As you are much more familiar with the x2gokdrive code, is this
something you could take a look at?

For now, I have added a commit that adds more stub and compat cmdline
options to x2gokdrive, also -clipboard.

Thanks+Greets,
Mike

Hi Mike,

yes, I'm agree, that in that case the behavior of x2gokdrive should be
similiar with x2goagent. I'll look at it bit later, bit busy right now.

regards,
Alex

Cool. Thanks for taking a look. Ping me when there is something ready

[X2Go-Dev] x2gokdrive: Move remote_init call into ddxProcessArgs function

2021-08-27 Thread Mike Gabriel

Hi Alex,

I looked into cmdline option parsing of x2gokdrive today. Reason was
that I have a server where I set "-clipboard client" via a cmdline
option. The x2gokdrive executable failed on that, because -clipboard
is not a known option.

What I found is that, other than in nxagent, in x2gokdrive the
remote_init function is called via OsVendorInit, just when the session
is about to start.

In nxagent, the nxagentOption Rec (remoteVars in x2gokdrive is the

earlier.

In X2Go, we have /etc/x2go/x2goagent.options. The file allows one to
inject extra options into nxagent via server-side cmdline options.
With Uli I recently discussed that the cmdline options should actually

enforce certain agent features that cannot be overridden by X2Go
Client client parameters). For nxagent, we are actually discussing a

So, for x2gokdrive, I wonder if we could establish such a feature, as

Re: [X2Go-Dev] Clean processes after x2goterminate-session

Probably it would be best to use dbus for session termination if it

This could be one puzzle piece, indeed. Basically, we can kill
x2goruncommand and then the session manager would automatically go
into logout.

However, esp. the GTK desktops (MATE, XFCE, etc.) leave many stray
processes around (e.g. gvfsd, colord, etc.). For these friends, some
more intelligence is required. Might have that in the X2Go Server
renicer code already, because Lee at those early times worked on code
that detects the complete process tree of a running desktop session.

Nowadays, one could argue that cgroups are another and better
alternative. But cgroups are not available on non-Linux, so maybe a
kernel-agnostic approach is a more favourable way to go?

[X2Go-Dev] Bug#913: Bug#913: Same issue Linux Gnome 3

My fix for Gnome 3 at 200% on Debian Bullseye:

1. Create a copy of the .desktop to home directory

~/.local/share/applications/

2. Change exec= in ~/.local/share/applications/x2goclient.desktop

I found this recommendation in https://doc.qt.io/qt-5/highdpi.html
"To get an application designed for low DPI values running on high
resolution monitors quickly, consider one of the following:"

"set the QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR environment variable to 1."

Thanks to akik in the #x2go IRC channel for pointing me in the right
direction.

thanks for providing this bit of info. I just tested this from an i3
desktop locally and it fails on a 4k display by whatever reason.

What works for me, though, is:

```
env QT_SCALE_FACTOR=2 x2goclient
```

However, the overall fix will be making X2Go Client HiDPI aware.

[X2Go-Dev] Bug#1554: Bug#1554: matlab colors inverted in X2go client

When using Matlab on an Ubuntu linux server accessed through x2goclient,
the Matlab window has inverted colors (e.g., background is black, text is
various colors with different highlighted colors).

I'm using x2go from a 2017 Macbook Pro with MacOS Catalina. I've recently
found the matlab window inverts its colors when the x2goclient window is
off-screen to the left, but when it's completely contained by my monitor
window or slightly off-screen to the right, then the colors are normal.

A similar problem happens on my colleague's 2020 Macbook Pro with MacOS Big
Sur, but no matter how he configures the x2goclient window, his matlab
screen still has inverted colors.

Could you let us know, what version of "nxagent" you have installed on
the X2Go Server? Thanks!

it checked for ||[ -f /etc/SUSE-brand ] || [ -f /etc/SuSE-release ]

So there should be a better detection for Opensuse Tumbleweed.

Hi Mike,

I upgraded my dev system to Bullseye and figured out what was the
problem. The new version of websockify was not accepting the kdrive
cookie as JS string, I modified the html client to send it as an array
of bytes instead. I also made some minor improvements in parsing of JSON
object in RPC and Client parts. With this modifications the HTML Client
is working on my Debian 11 system (still with SSL support).

regards,
Alex

Very cool. Thanks for the prompt fix up. Will take a look this afternoon.

Hi Alex,

I am currently trying to provide an out-of-the-box DEB installation of
x2gohtmlclient. For this, I need to make some adjustments, mainly
these are about wss: traffic becoming optional and defaulting
everything to localhost with ws: protocol. Of course, in real world
deployments, this needs to SSL'ified again. But I'd really love to
provide DEBs that demo x2gohtmlclient out-of-the-box (and SSL
certificates are not so much things that come out of the box).

This all seems to work fine, only that I get a failure when
x2goclient.min.js starts communicating with the x2gokdrive Xserver
(via x2gowswrapper, via websockify).

I think that my seen bug is caused by my websockify 0.9 which has the
text data mode removed (compared to earlier versions). See:

https://github.com/novnc/websockify/issues/365#issuecomment-432270758

As I am testing everything on Debian 11, I indeed have websockify 0.9
installed. Where did you test the whole stack of x2gohtmlclient,
x2goclient.min.js, x2gowebrpc and x2gowswrapper on? Debian 10, maybe?

My symptom in the browser is:

  - Logon works
  - X2Go KDrive sessions starts in the background (processes come up,
desktop is resumable via native X2Go Client later on)
  - X2Go Logo appears in the placeholder area in the webbrowser
  - X2Go session strings is shown at the top of the session
window in the browser
  - and then, the session is immediately closed again.

The (error) message(s) I get in the browser console while this happens
are/is these/this:

```
Before I dig any deeper, could you try your test setups with
websockify 0.9 and report back if you see a similar error popping up
or not?
Hi Mihai, hi Uli,
for the DEB builds, switching the symlink is all that is needed.
I am also pretty sure that all DEB distro versions we support should be able to
handle Qt5 builds just fine.
Please note that Qt5 has already been abondened by Trolltech and only receives
security support by the KDE team.
That is, Qt5 is cold coffee already, Qt4 is a dried out puddle. Don't waste to
much time switching between Qt4 and Qt5.
I think that the DEB based package builds should switch to Qt5 builds.
I'll check, if that also works for Debian 9 builds. If so, I'll do the
switch over.
The best way to find out the correnct nxdialog path is probably using
x2gopath. But I am not really sure how all that x2gopath stuff is
supposed to work. I mean, depending on the distribution, nxdialog
might be on different locations.
E.g. the nx-libs Makefile(s) install nxdialog to $BINDIR, which is
$PREFIX/bin by default. The packager can redefine BINDIR and/or
PREFIX. x2gopath does not know about BINDIR, it only knows PREFIX. So
how can I determine the BINDIR used during packaging of nxdialog?
Can anyone shine a light on this?
Uli
PS: nx-libs.spec does not build an nxdialog rpm yet, so that's needs
to be fixed, too.
I can take a look at that during my X2Go spring (starting next week).
This is an issue on the host affecting IPv4 access to the host only -
gitlab.x2go.org has a separate IPv4 (as requested during setup), and is
working just fine.
IPv6 is unaffected as well.
I'd like to use gitlab.x2go.org starting next week for some new projects
It has never been offline, at least SSH and HTTPS are working (HTTPS is
using a self-signed cert, though).
Currently, I cannot reach the LXC container via SSH. Neiter via IPv4 nor IPv6.
Funnily, I can reach the GitLab webinterface...
I use the fasttrack GitLab and one main disadvantage is the missing
Furthermore, I regularly bump into issues with upgrades of the
always has a solution, but...
So fasttrack GitLab basically works well, but I slightly prefer the
No big deal of a difference, but slightly more comfortable.
[X2Go-Dev] Bug#1476: Bug#1476: x2goclient interface code needs refactoring to make it more accessible and make improvements easier to implement and test
2020-06-08 Thread Mike Gabriel
Hi Dave,
On  So 07 Jun 2020 17:49:21 CEST, Dave Chamberlin-Kidd wrote:
Package: x2goclient
Version: 4.1.2.3
Severity: wishlist
There are a number of minor issues, oddities and limitations with the
current x2goclient gui which would be good to fix, resolve and improve on.
Like all projects however the core team have more important issues to
resolve. The code in its current state is difficult to understand and amend
and as it has no tests it is risky for developers to make functional
changes unless they spend a lot of time getting to know the code and doing
extensive manual testing.
Attached are 10 small refactorings which start extracting out some of the
code into smaller functions. As the code is separated out it becomes easier
to understand and change.
There are no functional changes in these patches, nor do they attempt or
claim to fix any known issues. On their own the benefit of these patches is
limited however the hope is that over time I will be able to submit more
refactorings as I learn more and then start fixing issues and improving the
UI. Extracting out functions is just one of many techniques that can be
used to make code cleaner but in my experience it's a good one to start
with. It should also be noted that sometimes code is extracted "as is" even
when it is clear further refactoring can be done to improve things, this is
by design in order to keep risk and size of patches to a minimum.
Cheers
Dave
Thanks for your patches. As the GitLab server for X2Go is in reach,
I'd like to postpone patch review until its there. I'd be happy if you
could file a merge request then and we dive into your proposals.
I'll grant you access to that VM tomorrow. Juri has created it. I want
Git-o-Lite is nice for Git-only setups. The currently proposed
contributions to X2Go Client are so much easier to be handled with
GitLab and similar. I even run a GitLab instance for my company
(although having far less repos than the X2Go project). It is always
worth it.
The best installation pathway of GitLab I have seen so far is this:
Hi Melroy,
Yes, there are paying customers for X2Go, but booking is done for
specific tasks, new features, etc. For X2Go Broker, I provide unit
tests along patchwork, but X2Go Broker has unit tests from day one.
Testing is part of the development cycle. Meaning you code
production code with your left hand. And write test cases with your
right hand. From the customer perspective there is no such choice to
implement a feature without tests. It's either a new feature with
test cases, proper review, and static code analysis, etc. Or they
have nothing.
This is all very easy, if you started with such a development design
from day one. That's why I recommended to introduce unit tests to
libx2goclient (we are at day 1.5 regarding this shared lib).
Introducing unit tests is painful on existing code, esp. if as
comprehensive as X2Go Client.
In X2Go, like in many other upstream projects, we have to prioritize.
And priority goes in providing continuous compatibility with all those
changes that occur out their (DBus user session concept of systemd,
desktop environment changes, window manager changes, etc.).
I don't want to be rude, but it's a mindset change. Hopefully you
get my point. The same is done in all my projects and the company I
work for.
You, in fact, sounded a little rude to me, indeed. However, I get your
point and ideas behind it. If you mean what you write, please follow
Alex position and start join the work. I am looking forward to your
upcoming contributions.
With the video recorded session start tests, we will get a lot of
Re: [X2Go-Dev] Unit tests (was: Code formatting)
2020-05-21 Thread Mike Gabriel
Hi Melroy,
Ps. Where are the testcases? We may need to start creating
(integration/unit) testcases to avoid regression issues when
changing code.
Most of the X2Go code components have been developed without unit
tests. I can only speak for Python X2Go and X2Go Broker (as they are
"my" projects).
When I started Python X2Go, I was a Python newby and did not know what
unit tests were. Several times in the past I though, how cool it would
have been to do atomic unit tests on code changes. It would have saved
my a lot of trouble.
For X2Go Broker, I set up unit tests and several features (not full
coverage, I guess) get tested and when I added new code, I offered 1-2
unit tests with the code. However, checking full test coverage via a
CI might be the next step here, too.
The problem is: where to start. I would _not_ start a CI test scenario
where an X2Go client starts a session on some X2Go server and
everything gets video recorded and analysed. This is skipping a step.
One starting point could be:
  libx2goclient (gtest based unit tests or similar)
  x2gothinclient (chroot setup of TCE)
  x2go-live (chroot setup of X2Go Live Image)
  x2goserver (start adding unit tests from scratch, in retrospective)
For libx2goclient, the unit tests can run at package build time. This
can happen on the Jenkins server, we already have anyway.
The chroot setup tests must run in containers or VMs, I guess. For
this we need a CI worker and a Git interaction that triggers those.
This is awkward with the current state of the Git server (git push via
SSH login on a plain file system).
Thus, one other first step would be e.g. a GitLab (or whatever Git
web-based platform) setup. One that supports integrations of CI workers.
As you sound pretty enthusiastic about helping out with X2Go, be
prepared to put time in any of the above tasks (or any other related
task) without much man power coming along to assist you (because we
are all lacking time, due to family life, work life, etc.).
However, I can offer expertise and background knowledge on X2Go
development and the underlying communication between client and
server, etc. If you want a quicker reply from me, put me in Cc: of
your mails to the list (but don't drop the list from Cc:!!!).
Thanks + Greets,
Mike
I'd rather suggest merging more of the official x2goclient DEB into
upstream DEB packaging, in fact. Ideally, you should prefer Qt5 over
Qt4 builds (swap build-dependencies around).
I think your patch (with Qt5 preferred) is a good starting point, but
[X2Go-Dev] Bug#1469: Bug#1469: Patch!
Hi,
I did some refactoring in the sshmasterconnection.cpp file. I think
it can definitely use some clean-up and further splitting functions
and even into multiple files eventually.
I cloned the master branch of code.x2go.org/x2goclient repo.
The changes I applied are in the attachment of this mail (a git
patch file). I think closing previous sessions and connection solved
my strange SSH connection is resulting into Socket error: No such
file or directory".
Although X2Go client is calling [libssh
calls](https://api.libssh.org/master/index.html) (libssh version
currently in use runtime on my host is: 0.7.0).
For some reason this vague error message popped-up by libssh,
properly a result of previous session being created and not
correctly closed. And/or not closed in the right order (/missing API
calls), like a good example:
ssh_channel_send_eof(channel);
ssh_channel_close(channel);
ssh_channel_free(channel);
And I created yet again a new YT video showing my result:
https://youtu.be/vmASLJq0CKM
(including some brief explanation what I did so far, I also ran an
formatted on the code, because it was very very hard to read with
all the wrong indents)
I also made another video showing yet another bug I found regarding
the SSH tunneling (during some heavy testing), the only solution was
to restart the whole docker image:
https://youtu.be/xEpIyo84fWc (I think this issue is unrelated, but
maybe wise to take serious as well)
Again see attachment for the patch (branched from master).
Regards,
Melroy van den Berg
Thanks for working on X2Go Client. With your patch, there is a problem
though. It is barely unreviewable, because you have so many changes
(also white space changes) in one patch file.
Please clone the X2Go Client Git repo, add atomic changes with good
commit messages. Keep white-space changes and technical changes fully
separate (ideally: technical changes first, white-space changes last).
Then export your patches using 'git format-patch
..HEAD' and send us the set of patches instead
this one bulk commit/patch.
Thanks for your efforts!!!
[X2Go-Dev] Bug#1447: Bug#1447: x2godesktopsharing termination
2020-04-07 Thread Mike Gabriel
Hi Alex,
When QCoreApplicationPrivate::maybeQuit() is called, quitLockRef.load() == 0,
hence QEvent::Quit is sent on MATE and application terminates.
KDE is fine because there is plasma-integration package, which provides
KDEPlatformSystemTrayIcon and quitLockRef.load() != 0 when maybeQuit() is
called.
Took a look at other Qt5 applications like Psi+ and made a patch with similar
workaround.
Can you take a look at the proposed patch and let me know if the
proposal is the way to go? Thanks.
Thanks
[X2Go-Dev] Bug#1439: Bug#1439: latest release of x2goclient for Ubuntu has dependency on hello
2020-02-21 Thread Mike Gabriel
Hi Mihai,
On  Sa 15 Feb 2020 17:00:27 CET, Mihai Moldovan wrote:
* On 2/15/20 4:23 PM, Ulrich Sibiller wrote:
1. why choose hello and not something that's on the system anyway,
like the kernel or bin-utils or some X package?
I'm not a DD, so my answer isn't authoritative and Mike#1 can
probably explain
this better, but optionaldep | hello seems to be a very common
pattern in Debian
packaging. If a DD sees such a dependency, he'll recognize it and its meaning
immediately.
Depending on a package in the base system set (i.e., those marked
"essential")
MIGHT be easier, but this is seems to be generally frowned upon
because it makes
degrading essential-set packages to optional ones more difficult, if I recall
correctly. I've also read that normal (i.e., optional, non-core/essential)
packages should generally NOT depend upon packages in the
essential-set but just
assume them to available unconditionally.
2. why do you want to mak x2gokdriveclient (or is it x2gokdrive?)  a
hard dependency? Nobody needs it unless he's wants to use it. People
can use x2go without it. So I see it as optional either way...
Hm, Mike#1 wanted it to be a hard dependency, but moving it to
Recommends might
make sense after all, since other software that X2Go Client *can*
make use of,
like FreeRDP2, is also not strictly necessary and merely a
recommended package.
Note that Debian installs recommended packages by default (unless users
explicitly configure or tell the package manager not to do this), so user
experience wouldn't be affected by that change anyway.
Mihai
let's please make a Recommends: relation out of this here.
Whenever x2gokdriveclient has been released, then we can still switch
this to Depends:.
I guess you can fake a gcc-10 by adding -fno-common as build option
and see what happens...
I previously ran tests on this which confirmed that this behaviour was
b) 0.8.0~20170825.94fa1e38-1build1
The reported issue is reproducible with the security update version a)
of libssh-4.
The issue does not occur with version b).
Please also note that the official Ubuntu package of X2Go Client [1]
has received / or should have received an SRU upload [2] recently and
it should be available in stock Ubuntu (hopefully) very soon.
Packages the latest upstream (0.6.1.1). It should fully work under
Redirecting (via Cc:) your question to Michael DePaulo (aka Mike#2 in
