Re: [X2Go-User] x2goserver on Ubuntu Mate 15.04 with 4k monitor and high font-rendering DPI
I saw this setting but for some reason it didn't affect anything when I changed it to 96. Could it be caused by the fact that ongoing (not logged out) session was active on the server (physical console) while I was trying to remotely connect to it via X2Go? The only way I found to connect to that server with reasonable DPI was to create a separate user that runs default settings, but that doesn't seem to be a good fix. -- Simon Am 21.05.2015 um 20:05 schrieb Simon Baev: Hello, I'm looking for a way to run *x2goserver* on *Ubuntu Mate 15.04* which is living on computer with *4k monitor* attached. Of course, a poor man's broker using a session config file on a read-only network share could also be used, as long as your users are always connected to the LAN (this will work via VPN, too, just not when all you have is an SSH connect to your server/firewall). Since you're talking of your users, I'm assuming a commercial setup on your side, so I hope you don't mind if I point out that there are several companies offering commercial support for X2Go, mine being one of them. ;-) One-time paid consultancy work for getting things set up is available, just like support contracts with guaranteed response times. Re: [X2Go-User] X2Go Client: Where to put RSA key for auto login on Windows
Well, the reason is simply that I cannot install software on our machines myself. Therefore I want to install as little software on those machines as possible, as for every piece of software I have to go through the installation steps with our IT department. They for sure would install pageant as well, but it's just easier for all of us if there's just one .exe to execute, rather than two of them. And we probably won't run PuTTY etc. on those machines. Wll, there's no need to install anything at all. While both X2GoClient and PuTTY come with installers, you can also just copy all the files to a directory of your choice (say, a network share) and start them from there. You could, for example, install X2GoClient on a test machine, then copy the contents of C:\Program Files\x2goclient (or whatever you picked as destination) to a network share, say, \\server\share\x2goclient, drop pageant.exe from PuTTY in there as well, and add a little batch file that runs pageant, adds the key, waits a few seconds, then runs x2goclient. That way, all you have to roll out is a shortcut (*.lnk) file pointing to the batch file on \\server\share\x2goclient. No client-side installation at all. Of course, you could also try to use %userprofile% in the ssh keyfile path within the session config, but I've never tried if that works as intended, so no promises. OK, this is quite a smart solution. Thank you a lot for your inputs, I really appreciate it. Just, as we have already installed the client (the .exe-way), and because we're still undecided about introducing X2Go at all, I'll stick to pointing to the key file directly, at least for the moment. I actually don't even need to use the %userprofile% variable, as the userprofile directory is mapped to a drive letter. What I'm working on right now is finding the best way to provide pre-defined sessions to our users. I probably got one more question, will ask in a new thread. Re: [X2Go-User] x2goserver on Ubuntu Mate 15.04 with 4k monitor and high font-rendering DPI
I wasn't looking to start a shadow session to access existing session. I just needed to use some software that was installed on that machine so fresh session worked fine. I will try the extensions approach for testing and will stick with a separate user scenario for main needs in future. Thank you. -- Simon On Thu, May 21, 2015 at 3:23 PM, Mihai Moldovan io...@ionic.de wrote: On 21.05.2015 08:22 PM, Simon Baev wrote: I saw this setting but for some reason it didn't affect anything when I changed it to 96. What exactly are you doing, anyway? It seems like you are starting a shadow session, i.e., connect to the already running local X server on the server machine? The DPI setting in X2Go Client controls the private X server's - i.e., nxagent's - DPI value. There's a caveat though, in the sense that desktop environments can and most likely will overwrite that. The only way I found to connect to that server with reasonable DPI was to create a separate user that runs default settings, but that doesn't seem to be a good fix. X2Go provides support for hooks via its extensions support. I guess it's not properly documented anywhere yet, but the basic idea is to put scripts into /usr/lib/x2go/extensions/. The targets in there are sort-of self-explanatory. N.B.: the amount of targets available may differ between release and nightly versions. All this said, I think a separate user is the cleanest and best-working idea. Mihai -- Simon ___ x2go-user mailing list x2go-user@lists.x2go.org http://lists.x2go.org/listinfo/x2go-user
[X2Go-User] The remote proxy closed the connection while negotiating the session.
I have an issue with a server, that has stopped working. I can log in with ssh, but the x2goclient gives the error The remote proxy closed the connection while negotiating the session. This may be due to the wrong authentication credentials passed to the server. I have other x2goservers, that works fine from the same client. The affected server has been rebooted, and I have also tried to purge x2goserver and reinstalled. No resolution yet. I can see that the version on the affected server is 4.0.1.19-0~106. On the server that works, it's 4.1.0.0-0~1257. I have tried to: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:x2go/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade But it seems like the update command don't fetch the x2go-repository at all. Anyone that has ideas to resolve this ? -- best regards Kjetil ___ x2go-user mailing list x2go-user@lists.x2go.org http://lists.x2go.org/listinfo/x2go-user
