I want Utility;Desktop, not Prettification. Something targeted to desktop itself. Want to use it for what? So far nobody has explained what exactly the category needs to be used for. You've just declared a need for a different category. Makes desktop more usable or application which helps to organize windows is maybe a subjective measurement. But please show me to a correct secondary category for it in the current specs. Tell me what I am trying to describe, and I will describe it. :) On top of the secondary categories, we also have the reserved categories for Screensaver, TrayIcon, and Applet to use. These probably all fit the type of apps you want to have a new special Prettification category for. It is not Screensaver, TrayIcon nor Applet. What isn't? Desktop Widgets as used by dashboard/gdesklets/karamba are all applets. They are just desktop applets, as opposed to panel, or java applets. -- dobey ___ xdg mailing list xdg@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/xdg

The secondary category for a Service would be related to the service it provides. For example, an OBEX FTP service should have FileTransfer as an additional category. Vino would have RemoteAccess. I don't think having additional categories for subjective metrics such as makes *my* desktop prettier for *me* is appropriate for a standardized specification. Spec does not say, whether Accessibility means Tools for impaired persons, or it is mentioned as Tools for better access to desktop in general. If first is valid, we need category for Tools for better access to desktop (i. e. desktop widgets etc.). If second one is valid, then any desktop gadgets are Accessibility as well. -- Best Regards / S pozdravem, Stanislav Brabec software developer - SUSE LINUX, s. r. o. e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Lihovarská 1060/12tel: +420 284 028 966 190 00 Praha 9fax: +420 284 028 951 Czech Republichttp://www.suse.cz/ ___ xdg mailing list xdg@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/xdg

* Matthias Clasen ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) [20070808 21:36]: That is what X- was invented for Maybe that's the way to go in the end. But why not discuss first what I proposed? If the spec is lacking, why not try to fix it instead of using workarounds? Using X- only means that instead of discussing here I'll have to do it in-house and it also means that each distribution is likely to have it's own set of categories that don't match what the others are using.
