Having new primary category Service would be very useful also for thing
 like gnome-bluetooth OBEX server, vino,...

The Bluetooth OBEX server shouldn't even show up in the menus, and will
be removed as soon as bluez-gnome has a replacement for it.

application (Service), which simply makes desktop more usable.

I want Utility;Desktop, not Prettification. Something targeted to
 desktop itself.

Want to use it for what? So far nobody has explained what exactly the
category needs to be used for. You've just declared a need for a
different category.

Makes desktop more usable or application which helps to organize
windows is maybe a subjective measurement. But please show me to a
correct secondary category for it in the current specs.

Tell me what I am trying to describe, and I will describe it. :)

On top of the secondary categories, we also have the reserved categories
for Screensaver, TrayIcon, and Applet to use. These probably all fit the
type of apps you want to have a new special Prettification category
  for.

It is not Screensaver, TrayIcon nor Applet.

What isn't? Desktop Widgets as used by dashboard/gdesklets/karamba
are all applets. They are just desktop applets, as opposed to panel,
or java applets.

makes desktop more usable is a subjective measurement, in this
example, not objective. The secondary category for a Service would
be related to the service it provides. For example, an OBEX FTP service
should have FileTransfer as an additional category. Vino would have
RemoteAccess. I don't think having additional categories for subjective
metrics such as makes *my* desktop prettier for *me* is appropriate
for a standardized specification.

On top of the secondary categories, we also have the reserved categories
for Screensaver, TrayIcon, and Applet to use. These probably all fit the
type of apps you want to have a new special Prettification category
for.

Nope :( I need a primary and a secondary category otherwise the .desktop
  file isn't accepted.

How would adding a new secondary category solve your problem here?
Utility, Settings, and System are all primary categories. Perhaps we
need a Service category for things like this, which are really some
 type of desktop service.

Upper mentioned line should be a line from table: Proposed secondary
category Desktop, which can be used for primary categories Utility,
Settings or System. Proposed Service category would be useful for it as

This would also solve the Accessibility issue that Stanislav brought

It still does not solve the problem, which secondary category fits the
application (Service), which simply makes desktop more usable.

Spec does not say, whether Accessibility means Tools for impaired
persons, or it is mentioned as Tools for better access to desktop in
general.

If first is valid, we need category for Tools for better access to
desktop (i. e. desktop widgets etc.).

If second one is valid, then any desktop gadgets are Accessibility as
well.

I'd say more of the latter: I'm talking about Avant Window Navigator
https://launchpad.net/awn . The .desktop file it supplies is rejected by our
build system because the categories it uses don't conform to the xdg spec.

Maybe that's the way to go in the end. But why not discuss first what I
proposed? If the spec is lacking, why not try to fix it instead of using
workarounds? Using X- only means that instead of discussing here I'll have
to do it in-house and it also means that each distribution is likely to have
it's own set of categories that don't match what the others are using.
