I'd therefore suggest to enable it and provide information on the web and in the man page how the hang can be avoided if somebody encounters it. Egbert, We could leave the option in, but enable it by default, so that this information is displayed, and allow people to turn it off if it hangs. That might be better. My mobo is an ECS L7VMM2 for AMD athlon XP 2000Ghz and it too has VIA KM266 and VIA savage-3 built in running at 8mb allocation. Mandrake 9 supports it. I have tried RedHat 9, sad to say, it failed in RH7 and also in RH 9. But in Mandrake 9 it does. Go for Mandrake 9.2 their better cause they have yet to be infected with the BGates syndrome. [XFree86] Please help: using any new kernels, xserver won't start
Hi there, I'm running RedHat Enterprise Edition and am trying to change my kernel to facilitate some networking issues. I've been frustrated by the xserver not being able to boot when using the networking kernel, so I've tried with a plain vanilla kernel and the same thing happens (see error msg and logfile below). When I boot to the original redhat kernel in grub, everything works fine. I haven't changed anything about the X configuration that came with the original distribution. Please Help! Here's the error message I get when the system attempts to start the graphical login screen: I cannot start the X server (your graphical interface). It is likely that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the X server output to diagnose the problem? Then it gives me the first few lines of the logfile up until (==) Using config file: /etc/X11/XF86Config and asks if I want to run the configuration tool, which just runs for a minute and then the error message come up again. Re: [XFree86] Xinerama support
You are asking to have separate root window backgrounds in Xinerama mode? The Xinerama implementation doesn't allow that. Basically, it advertises one root window, so when a client renders to the root window it has to get duplicated on all the individual screens. I suppose you could fake different images by piecing together smaller images along screen boundaries to make a single large quilt to set as the background of the single large root window. Mark. Just send us the XFree86Config(-4) file (with my distro it's in /etc/X11), and the XFree86.0.log file (with my distro in /var/log), and we'll see if we can find a solution. That's what I did lately but I had the choice between writing a script that would change the background automatically (less annoying) or disable xinerama. I disabled it :) That's strange because Nvidia tool can actually do it. You have a big desktop but you can set per screen wallpaper.
