Re: [XFree86] [XFree86(TM) Bug Report] Nvidia Geforce2Go: autodetects1400x1050 LCD, then refuses to use it (hysnc out of range)

2003-01-20 Thread Keith R Kilby

Hi

Read with interest your post. I have successfully loaded Dell C810 Geforce2
Go under Redhat Linux 7.2 and Redhat 8.0.

Will admit though the install under 7.2 was difficult but the following site
has a good guide http://www.m5computersecurity.com/Linux-on-C810.html which
I found through Google and this site http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/.

Sorry haven't got the XFree version number handy for either installation.
On Redhat 8.0 I downloaded all the information on the nvidia pages and the
rpm's. I installed RedHat as a terminal only installation (ie I skipped the
X configuration bit). I then installed the Nvidia rpms and ran the redhat
xconfiguration worked a dream following the guide on the Nvidia website.

Regards
Keith

[Newbie]Which Card in an Sun ULTRA10

2002-10-30 Thread Keith R Kilby
I am currently installing Aurora Linux on a Sun Ultra10 (512Mb, with IDE
9GB HDD and CDROM).

The graphics card is part number 501-4788 (newer part number is
501-5690) which is a Creator 3D Series 3 Vertical Form Factor (according
to http://www.sunhelp.org/faq/FrameBuffer.html#99 ). This is also
confirmed by the PCB layout at the bottom of
http://sunsolve.Sun.COM/handbook_pub/Devices/Graphics/GRAPH_Creator3D_3_FFB2plus.html#4788

Now when I run Xconfigurator it will only give a Vertical Creator 3D. If
I skip the tests and complete Xconfigurator and the run startx an X
server seems to start but nothing gets displayed on the screen.
CTL/ALT/BACKSPACE seems to kill the xserver and puts me back to the
command line.

To get this card to work I have to select FFB2 Horizontal Creator3D! Is
this correct?

Keith

Re: [Newbie]Supporting LINUX on sparc Ultra 10

2002-10-17 Thread Keith R Kilby

Laurent

Thanks for that. The Sunsolve reference was one I had not seen and was
useful. However, the problem is when I let the linux anaconda handle the
new graphic card it is prompting for an XFree86 SUN24 rpm which I have
not been able to locate I suspect it may be in the XFree86_3.3.6 rpm it
certainly is not mentioned for the latest release, but the docs are not
clear.

I have tried to install the latest XFree86 V4.2.1 but that did not seem
to work; the system blanked the screen when I typed startx and some disc
activity took place but no screen displayed, control alt backspaced to
kill Xserver it worked and went back to command line terminal. Perhaps
my understanding of the anaconda process was in error, the system
prompted for the CDROM 1 first, then asked for the ATI Rage drivers
again. The Creative card is not based on the ATI Rage chip set or is it?

If I get it working I certainly will post results.

Thanks and regards
Keith

I am able to get the system up and working to a terminal screen and
can start xwindows with the on board graphics card, which appears to
be so form of ATI Rage Pro. However, the Ultra10 is badged as a
Creator3D and appears to be fitted with an additional display card
which seems to be a Creative 3D. I am trying to ascertain wether
any of the XFree86 servers will provide support on the Sparc
architecture for this card or if the source could be used to produce
a suitable server for such a system.

 Thanks for any help

From Sun and XFree docs, I think you should be able to use it with the
 sunffb driver.
I'mm wondering if it's going to have a good hardware acceleration
support, though, since Sun 3D cards are quite proprietary.

Would you post your results and if it works, how fast it feels ?

 Thanks!
