[XFree86] compaq tft1720 config

2003-01-30 Thread Sean Middleditch
Hello all,

 I'm using X 4.2.1, RedHat 8.0, with an on-board Intel chipset (845 I
think), and a Compaq TFT1720 (flat panel).

I don't have any modelines or anything for this model monitor; probing
the monitor, XFree86 is trying to drive it at 85hz. It recommends 60hz,
and there is a horrid flickering giving me a serious head-ache, that I
think is because of the incorrect setting.

Without access to the modelines, is there anyway to figure them out?
Reading the X startup logs, when querying the monitor it seems to be
telling XFree86 the correct modes to support. XFree86 is just going
ahead, ignoring them, and using 85hz anyways, tho.

I can send copies of the startup log if that's necessary for more info
(I'm not sure what would all be required; it should Just Work(tm) using
probing, but...).

Also, I'm not subscribed to the list, please make sure my e-mail at
least gets CC'd. Thanks!

[Xpert]Hotplug USB mice

2001-11-04 Thread Sean Middleditch

Hi! First, sorry if this is an oft-discussed topic, but I can't find
archives for this list to check (can anyone give me a pointer?)

Second, I'm not subscribed to the list (most likely too much traffic for
me), so please CC me an replies.

Third, and most importantly, I was wonderin how to solve a little
issue... I have a latop with a touchpad, and I bought a USB mouse for
it. Now, I have it configured so if when X starts up, and both mice are
plugged in, they both work. but, if I plug in the USB mouse after X
starts, I have to restart X to get it to work, even tho the hotplug
scripts detect and configure the mouse.

Is there anyway to get X to rescan devices while running? Perhaps just
take a signal that X currently ignores (USR1, HUP, USR2, something), and
if it receives that signal then rescan input devices. Then hotplug
scripts could signal any running X servers. So, if I plug in my USB
mouse, boom it works in X. If I unplug, it just wouldn't work, and the
hotplug scripts would signal X again so it could complete remove the
device. And so on.

Does this sound nice for X 4.2 or something? Or is there another way to
get this done already?

Thanks!
Sean Etc.
