 Hello Xfree86 team,

I'm not sure if you can do anything about it with the nvidia
drivers being binary, but I thought I'd let somebody know.

I have Xfree86 server crashes with two different nvidia
cards and no indication in the log what actually went wrong.

I tried XFree86 -configure and the OS is a recent Gentoo 2.6.3.

I have attached the logs and some output from dmesg. If you
need more information let me know.

You have a lot of unresolved symbols in your driver, which is bad. Try
emerging the nvidia-driver again, and make sure to run:
opengl-update nvidia

Try the opengl-update first, though

[XFree86] XServer 4.3.0 spontanious crash

Five minutes ago my XServer suddently crashed with a signal 11, I have no
idea what caused it to do so, and I can't find anything in the log file that
helps me.

I'm using SlackWare 9.1 with Linux kernel 2.4.21-pre5, and I'm using the
radeon module from the XServer CVS.

Is there any way I can find out more about this crash, or does the log file
make any sense to you guys?

My hardware is Dell Inspiron 8200 with 64MB Radeon Mobility 9000 gfx
  card.

According to XFree86 logfile my chipset is:
(II) Primary Device is: PCI 01:00:0
(--) Chipset ATI Radeon Mobility M9 Lf (AGP) found

This would seem to be correct. However my problem arise when I blank the
display (either by Fn+D or by closing the lid), after I restore the
display by hitting enter or opening the lid again, the display stays
blank and the backlight turns on... It seems that the Radeon driver
  doesn't restor the display correctly?

Have you seen bugs 73 and 74?

That would seem to be the case for me (as of bug 73), sad they marked it as
Won't fix...

Thanks for the help anyway :-/

[XFree86] Problems with Radeon Mobility gfx card on Dell Inspiron

2003-03-24 Thread Simon Ejsing
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi list, I'm having some odd problems with my Radeon Mobility card. It works
perfectly, besides one little thing, OpenGL :-/

I'm using SlackWare 9.0, XFree 4.3.0, running with Kernel 2.4.20 compiled
from source.

I have compiled the kernel to support the DRM for Radeon as a module, which
loads fine, the dmesg reports:
[drm] AGP 0.99 on Intel i845 @ 0xe800 64MB
[drm] Initialized radeon 1.1.1 20010405 on minor 0
[drm:radeon_unlock] *ERROR* Process 574 using kernel context 0

I belive the error is reported when shutting down the XServer, but besides
that it seems to work fine.

Examining the XServer log file (which I have attached) indicates everything
is working fine, the GLX extension loads without errors, and the Radeon drm
seems to detect my gfx card properly, but then this happens:
(II) RADEON(0): [drm] created radeon driver at busid PCI:1:0:0
(II) RADEON(0): [drm] added 8192 byte SAREA at 0xe0973000
(II) RADEON(0): [drm] mapped SAREA 0xe0973000 to 0x40015000
(II) RADEON(0): [drm] framebuffer handle = 0xe000
(II) RADEON(0): [drm] added 1 reserved context for kernel
(EE) RADEON(0): [dri] RADEONDRIScreenInit failed because of a version
mismatch.
[dri] radeon.o kernel module version is 1.1.1 but version 1.5.0 or newer is
needed.
[dri] Disabling DRI.
(II) RADEON(0): [drm] removed 1 reserved context for kernel
(II) RADEON(0): [drm] unmapping 8192 bytes of SAREA 0xe0973000 at 0x40015000

Seems like the kernel module is of wrong version for the XServer? How do I
get one that works?

Any help would be appreciated, I've had lots of problems getting the card to
work with version 4.2.0 of the XServer... and finally it seems like this is
possible :)

Thanks in advance,
