Re: [XFree86] Fatal IO error
You should view your error log (usually some lines are printed on the screen after XFree exits, in any case the exit message points you to the location of the error log); did you configure your monitor graphics/video card? It seems likely that there is no configuration for these items in the correspondig file (I would think it is /etc/X11/XF86Config-4). Re: [XFree86] Introduction Question (Can't Startup)
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hello! I'm very new to this, but since I see no answer, I'll try to give a hint (although I don't know if it's applicable, because I don't know anything about Apple); though, the message seems to indicate to me that there is a question about permissions; i.e., that the path X11 is reading has only root access (confirmed by your inplication that the problem arises when you intend going rootless); try setting it world readable+executable. I hope this is of some use, if not please let me know, so I can further my understanding of these processes Chip G. wrote: | Hi all, | | I am a newbie to X11, with modest Unix experience (studying Perl now). In fact, I remember trying once with Slackware and it WAS painful! I tried with xf86cfg (a GUI equivalent of xf86config) and got quite satisfactory results; I think it should work well, since at least your combination of graphics card screen are working. I would give it a try; and if it doesn't work, my suggestion is, keep on with Linux but try another distro. I have some (little) experience with both Slackware (fascinating) and Mandrake (comfortable); usually I had no problems with Mandrake detecting hardware. I hope this is of some use, and that you don't give up with Linux. Brbara so I decided to take some action with the xf86config command and I have tried most of the setting to match the display speech of my laptop which can run in 1024x763 24bit I know this because thats what it was running at when I was using windows. Im getting really tired you are my only hope before I killdisk the thing and install windows. Please help me if you can any suggestions just let me know. Toshiba is no help they dont even tell me the hz and vsync refreash rate settings Im really tried just look at my spelling Ive spent allnight with this thing and hence thus email HEEELPPP ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86
