[XFree86] no screen

2004-01-21 Thread joyce eyles

To add to my e-mail of the 8th Jan., I am now able to get
800x600 screen on my laptop. All I had to do was change the order of Clocks
presented. Previously these were given from low frequencies going up, but
I amended the order to pesent the Clock frequencies I wanted used at the
beginning of the sequence. Bill Eyles

I am having trouble with X Windows on my installation of
Slackware v 9.1. Slackware v 8.1 worked happily once I entered the chip Cirrus
GD7543 in the Config file. Slackware v 9.1 identifies the chip but doesn't give
me a working mode. My laptop is a Compaq LTE5000 75Mhz with a dualscan. I use a
800x600 and the LILO startup screen uses vga=771. Is there something I can try
(avoid VESA and Cirrus and go for a Generic monitor)? I attach my Config file
and the XFree86 log file.

I have a compaq LTE5000 laptop which has a Cirrus clgd7543
chipset which is not listed in the Cirrus list. Perhaps I can use a compatible
chipset as I have had no problems with Mandrake 7.1. My new installation is
Slackware 8.1, kernel 2.4.18. I suspect this is my only problem. Bill Eyles at
