Re: [XFree86] Can not start X

2005-10-08 Thread Mark Vojkovich
I have never heard of this video card:

(II) PCI: 01:00:0: chip 10de,002f card , rev 15 class 03,00,00 hdr 00

I believe this unusual PCIID may be some misguided attempt by a
Taiwan OEM to make it appear that their card was somehow special.
I recall there was a vendor called JET that did such a thing once.
I would guess this card doesn't work under Windows either. If it's
really one of the NV5 generation (there is no NV6 as /proc/pci claims),
you can probably get it to work by forcing the chipset to Vanta.
Eg. put the line:

  Chipset Vanta

in the Section Device in the XF86Config file.

   Maybe the ChipID field then.

ChipID 0x10DE002C

I'm not that familiar with how the server's overrides for this
sort of thing work.

Re: [XFree86] Can not start x windows after upgraded kernel to version 2.6.x

2004-07-16 Thread Andrew Haninger
Well, I'm quite confused about what's your problem, especially after
your last email to Recall your message. I think you're saying you
didn't mean to send it and you want to undo the action of sending the
email. I sure hope that is not what you mean, though.

In the off chance that you still need help, though, it looks like
XFree86 cannot find a device /dev/mouse. Maybe your new kernel makes a
different device name for the mouse. You might try one of the
text-based, keyboard-only X configuration tools like xf86cfg or
xf86config. Then try to reassociate your mouse with X.

Hope this helps.

If you're having a problem with the XFree86 X server, it's usually a
good idea to include with your message a copy of your XFree86 log file
(/var/log/XFree86.0.log) and XF86Config file. The exact name of your
config file can be found by looking for the Using config file: line in
first page of your XFree86 log file.

Other information you should include with your report includes:

* The version of XFree86 you are using. If you are not sure, running
XFree86 -version should tell you.
* The Operating System and its version.
* What video hardware you are using.
* A clear description of the problem.
