Andreas, Cisco PIX has this behaviour when using 'fixup protocol smtp'. http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/iaabu/pix/pix_sw/v_63/cm dref/df.htm#1067379 The fixup protocol smtp command enables the Mail Guard feature, which only lets mail servers receive the RFC 821, section 4.5.1, commands of HELO, MAIL, RCPT, DATA, RSET, NOOP, and QUIT. All other commands are translated into X's which are rejected by the internal server. This results in a message such as 500 Command unknown: 'XXX'. Incomplete commands are discarded.=20 As of PIX Firewall software Version 5.1 and higher, the fixup protocol smtp command changes the characters in the SMTP banner to asterisks except for the 2, 0, 0 characters. Carriage return (CR) and linefeed (LF) characters are ignored. [xmail] Re: SMTP routing based on source email address ??
If your firewall is a checkpoint firewall-1 you can use the smtp security server to solve this problem. I have done something similar to this before with great success. Lars -Original Message- From: Rob Arends [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Mon 17-Feb-03 6:34 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: Subject: [xmail] Re: SMTP routing based on source email address ?? I didn't mention that the existing email server is Novell's Groupwise. The users don't have control over the outgoing smtp server to send email. I was thinking of GroupWise using xmail as a smart host, to drop all outgoing mail, Xmail have the smarts to look at the source email address via a mailproc perhaps and if it is not one of the priority users, then send the mail, or if it is from one of the priority users then relay it to another smtp relay (doesn't have to be xmail). If It can't be done at the application layer, perhaps it can be done at the file level. Davide, if a mailrpoc was to identify an email to be relayed, could it copy the email file to the input queue of another xmail server and return an exitcode that effectively blocks or deletes the email on xmail server one. The second Xmail server reads the in queue and sends it out. In theory would this work ?? What dir could I drop a properly formatted file into? Rob :-) You can't route based on the sender, you can only route for destination ( smtpfwd.tab ). And it's domain based, not user based. You cannot run two instances of XMail on the same machine also. You have to setup another XMail machine and you have to tell those users to use such machine as SMTP server. You'll configure this machine by only having custom domains ( the ones that you handle ) that smtprelay to you main ( POP3 ) machine. At this point you can setup source routing on your firewall. - Davide - - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line unsubscribe xmail in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For general help: send the line help in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- Binary/unsupported file stripped by Ecartis -- -- Type: application/ms-tnef -- File: winmail.dat - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line unsubscribe xmail in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For general help: send the line help in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Then here is my trick question: @ISP mydomain.be is put in a pop3 mailbox. I saw a mail from ordb.org 'by accident' (while dealing with=20 troubles) with a to-adress formed as above. Apparently they check on=20 relaying based on above statement. This used to be a sendmail feature (I think). And if it worked = [i.e.-managed to relay mail] the mail would be delivered to = user@users-domain. I have been in search for such a thing too, and I think an open source = component like this doesn't exist. But there are a couple of free libs = available: http://www.chilkatsoft.com/WebMail.asp It has a license here http://www.chilkatsoft.com/license.asp that says = it's free software. It's not GPL and you can pay for it too to get = support. Another one I've found is this one: http://go4.163.com/giftel/downlong/ASP/EMail/rkMail.zip It doesn't include a license and the home page in the readme file = doesn't exist, but I found an article refering to it as freeware: http://www.eggheadcafe.com/articles/20010301.asp Lars -Original Message- From: Javier Navarro [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, September 18, 2002 18:41 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [xmail] Mail component? =20 =20 Hello, =20 Does anybody know any free open source component/class/dll=20 to develop a web mail? =20 What I need is something like JMail, a set of objects like=20 POP3, SMTP to send and receive emails from a web page. =20 Thanks, =20 Javier Navarroi =20 =20 - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line unsubscribe xmail in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For general help: send the line help in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] =20 =20 - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line unsubscribe xmail in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For general help: send the line help in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Is it possible to use a custom greeting banner instead of 220 = [EMAIL PROTECTED] [XMail 1.10 (Win32/Ix86) ESMTP = Server] service ready; Wed, 04 Sep 2002 16:00:58 +0200?
