We lack the necessary information to answer the following questions: i) Since framebuffer based X servers should run on every Vesa 2.0 compatible card, where can one find a list of such cards ? ii) How do we compare XF86_FBDev 3.3.6 with XFree 4.1 server using the fbdev driver which is available according the documentation found on www.xfree.org ? Which one has better support ? What other reasoning can influence the decision ? iii) What XFree86 drivers have XVideo extension implementation by now? The support classification in the driver status document is not detailed engouth (accelerated/non-accelerated). The XVideo extension is very important. Besides this one can build a list of XFree 4.1 supported cards by visiting every link in the driver status document, but it would be useful if you could publish a plain list just as you did for XFree 3.3.6. Hi there ! Let me explain my problem I have a nice display (lcd) with 640x480 but it needs to be driven by digital signals. My Idee was to take an old EGA-Card i have here (AST3G) and if i'm right, EGA is digital. Now my question is, does anyone know, if EGA-cards are supported in anyway by XFree ? EGA is an analog display driven by a digital signal (TTL). It is similar to CGA, but CGA could have only 2^4 colors possible (16) where EGA could have 2^6 colors possible (64). On-screen palette (without trickery) could only be 16 colors though. So TTL is digital, but to answer the original poster, it is *not* the same digital signal that the new digital flat panels use, by far. If you have an older LCD display, and you are SURE it is TTL/EGA/CGA and that it will sync to EGA horizontal scan, then it should work. Hi Kevin, If you still have troubles closing the XVideo screen on termination of the XVideo mode with chip-sets other than Virge/MX it might be worth trying the same register I used for the Virge/MX: OUTREG(SSTREAM_WINDOW_SIZE_REG, 0); in the S3VStopVideo function. [Xpert]Radeon 8500/7500 support

I have documentation and a test driver for these boards and could add support, but judging from recent history in the ati driver, ATI seems to be adding support for things themselves. Can anyone comment on this? If you have an older LCD display, and you are SURE it is TTL/EGA/CGA and that it will sync to EGA horizontal scan, then it should work. But I couldn't even begin to speculate about Xfree86 support. There were also some LCD and plasma displays built that came with their own simple interface card that presented an EGA interface. I used to have one of these. But the LCD/plasma interface was a proprietary digital interface, not a normal video signal. If you have one of these old LCD/plasma systems you need to have the original EGA interface card that came with it. You cannot substitute a different card.
