20 Matrox mga cards but came to know that the

Xvideo is supported by the mga driver. Actually it
 was the first
 driver to support this.

xvinfo gives current xv status on the running system. Are you sure you
are running the mga driver?

That card doesn't have a video overlay. It is several
years old and before cards had video overlays. Matrox
didn't add a video overlay until the G200 - two product
cycles newer than what you have.

[Xpert]Keyboard ignored without mouse

2002-08-17 Thread Paul

Hi,

I've noticed that with both 4.0.3 and 4.2.0 when I start XFree86 without a
mouse (using -AllowMouseOpenFail) the X server starts fine _but_ the X server
doesn't respond to keyboard presses. I have tried different mainboard and
different keyboard/mouse combinations and they all have the same problem.
The keyboard works fine on the console and I'm not using a window manager.
If I plug a mouse in before I start the X server everything works fine!

Has anyone seen this behaviour before or perhaps give me somewhere to start
to debug this?

Thanks, Paul.

[Xpert]Make Install problems...

2002-08-17 Thread RavynNiteshade

I put this on the newbie list, but since it sees about as much traffic as an
ice-cream shop in a blizzard...I thought Id try here:

I was having problems with the rpms for my distro,so I decided to give the
source a try...make World went well after I installed the bison and flex that
I didnt see needed in the docs, anyhow it stalls on make install with:

/usr/bin/ld : cannot find -lncurses

so I check and I currently have in /lib:

libncurses.so.1
libncurses.so.1.9.9e
libncurses.so.3
libncurses.so.3.0
libncurses.so.4
libncurses.so.4.2
libncurses.so.5
libncurses.so.5.0
libncurses.so.5.2
all of these point to the libncurses.so.5.2,and so I look back through the
def and cf files and host.def has the some distros dont have termcap, the
#define termcap blah blah -lncurses,so I comment it out,because I have
libtermcap.so.2 and .so.2.0.8
and it still hangs in the same spot with the cannot find -lncurses..what
am I missing?

TIA,
Chuck

Re: [Xpert]Make Install problems...

2002-08-17 Thread Markus Gutschke

Do you have a symbolic link in /usr/lib/libncurses.so pointing to
/lib/libncurses.so.5? The file without the version number is the one that is
picked up at link time, whereas the ones with the version numbers get picked up
at runtime.

If you don't have the neccessary symbolic link, that might be a sign that you
also don't have the rest of the development files. As I don't know which
distribution you have, I can't tell you how to fix this (on Debian, you'd type
apt-get install libncurses5-dev)

[Xpert]Xserver problems with /temp/.esd

2002-08-17 Thread Sadanand Kota

Hi,
When I try to start Xserver by 'startx', the X hangs after some time. When I kill it
(Ctrl+Alt+Bakspace), I see these messages.

esd: Esound sound daemon already running or stale Unix socket
/tmp/.esd/socket
This socket already exists indicating esd is already running.
Exiting...

I even deleted /tmp/.esd and tried to start x. But I am getting the same problem.

Any idea?

Thanks,
Sadanand
