no, canonical doesnt support 2D desktops at all anymore, unity-2d was
discontinued upstream in precise already, all further development is
done on unity 3D. in quantal the unity-2d code was completely removed

GL/GLES out of the box or needs to be able to run llvmpipe as a fallback
mechanism ...
