[Ac100] [Bug 823971] Re: Enhancement: Suggestion to use jffs2 Filesystem

2011-08-10 Thread Oliver Grawert
nilfs2 is unstable (see the big capitalized warning in dmesg if you load
the module), it is in flux and there is no guarantee for backwards
compatibility between nilfs2 versions. while it might be fine if you
never upgrade, from kernel 2.6.37 on our kernels are packaged and
upgradeable in ubuntu, nobody can guarantee that i.e. a switch to 3.0
wont break nilfs2 compatibility.

jffs2 is really old and obsolete, even if we would run our rootfs from
NAND there is ubifs for such cases nowadays.

you should never use asound.state manually, it is modified and parsed by
alsa all the time and you might confuse it if you manually change the

00main would be an option, but the whole ancient init hackery is
considered obsolete upstream, so that would also only be temporary ...

ASoC sound is supposed to use ucm nowadays, so we need to create the
proper ucm configuration to initialize the sound properly. alongside an
SRU upload for oneiric this indeed needs to go upstream.

hmm, seems thats a bug in the tracker,
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-preinstalled/20111007/ has the tar.gz

tar.gz and .bootimg manually with a browser or wget from the above dir.

Just wondering if it would be possible to produce a Lubuntu image. I

sorry, but i think this is a bit to late for the oneiric cycle ... for
the P (precise) release you could talk to the lubuntu maintainers. to
get approval from the ubuntu release team for building an additional
image it is required that someone commits to take the responsibility for
all QA (testing all milestone images, working on bugs that are specific
to this image, etc). this indeed requires that the team has someone with
the hardware to test on who does this commitment.

unless somone finds out why initrds are size limited (not sure if

really use dm-crypt in ubuntu installs due to the fact that cryptsetup

  are no movements).

The buttons under the touchpad do work.

Also, when I switch windows etc. the pointer does appear, and then
hides again. So it's not a problem of the pointer in X, it's a problem
either of the touchpad physically, or of the driver for it.

I usually notice this when I'm working with a browser (Firefox),
perhaps even with a map (like Google map) inside it. But this may be
not related to the causes of the bug.

A workaround: attach a USB mouse. (It works.)

touchpad, and the corresponding driver is psmouse.

[Ac100] image changes in ubuntu quantal (12.10)

2012-08-25 Thread Oliver Grawert
hi,

as some might have noticed, ubuntu dropped the support for 2D desktops
from its default images, hardware needs to either be capable to do
GL/GLES out of the box or needs to be able to run llvmpipe as a fallback
mechanism ...

llvmpipe does not run on arm and the nvidia-tegra situation isnt golden
either, so a change for the ac100 images was required as we cant run the
default ubuntu images anymore ...

so i made a decision and switched the images from ubuntu-desktop to
lubuntu-desktop on last thursday for quantal under the assumption that
the smallest and lightest image in the ubuntu family will give us the
best end user results on the ac100 ...

with this change we now have a new download location at [1]. the set of
shipped default applications as well as the image size differ massively
from former releases and you might be pleased to hear that the new
download is only ~400M big :)

please help testing the images if you consider a new installation on
your ac100 anyway :) we specifically need testing help around milestone
releases [2]

Bug description:
  I've installed Ubuntu 12.04 for Toshiba AC100.
My history is described here --
https://answers.launchpad.net/ac100/+question/207758 :

before turned on a lot of switches in alsamixer, no sound could be
  recorded.

I couldn't turn capturing the sound on through the sound settings menu
  in the panel.

I suggest that either the default settings allow recording, or there
is a simple way to switch it on through the settings menu (without
having to look at a whole lot of switches in alsamixer, not
  understanding their meaning).

There is a universe squeak-vm package for Ubuntu 12.04 located here:
 https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/precise/armhf/squeak-vm/1:4.4.7.2357-1.1ubuntu1.
I can't find this package when I search for it with aptitude. Do I
have to add additional repositories? Universe is activated in my

squeak-vm is definitely installable for me on both, precise and quantal

[Ac100] [Bug 1026510] Re: lxkeymap does not remember settings

2012-10-09 Thread Oliver Grawert
the problem here is not lxkeymap, but the fact that oem-config
(ubiquity) does not offer keyboard selection during install and just
defaults to whatever is set in /etc/default/keyboard (which lxkeymap
just uses as well) ... to work around the issue until the bug is fixed:

edit /etc/default/keyboard to use the keymap you want
run sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup, answer all questions with their
defaults and reboot (along with a proper desktop keymap you now should also
have the right keymap on the console)

2013-04-04 Thread Oliver Grawert
so this is Bug 1084063 ... i will not duplicate it though since i will
work out a workaround specifically for the ac100

(manually this can be worked around if you have an sosboot partition,
boot into it after the hang. mount your rootfs partition and just remove
all of /etc/init/plymouth*)

So is there some trick necessary to get graphics working with Raring on
 the AC100?

no, it should work out of the box and i know of at least two persons who
tested the image before final release, i wonder if something went wrong
with publishing the right build to the final release target, you could
try different versions of the final builds from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/daily-preinstalled/

the problem with these images is that i as the maintainer only have very
very limited time to even look at them, i can keep them building but if
nobody steps up to test them before the release or helps to fix bugs i
fear we will have to shut them down at some point ... it would be
helpful if some community people could step up and take over some
responsibility ...

[Ac100] [Fwd: Trusty Tahr Alpha 1 participation?]

2013-12-12 Thread Oliver Grawert
hi,

Forwarding from ubuntu-rele...@lists.ubuntu.com:

since it came up a few times on IRC recently, if you want to participate
in Lubuntu ac100 testing so that the ac100 Images for 14.04 do not get
cancelled due to not enough interest of testers (like it happened with
the 13.10 release).

Please contact the Lubuntu flavour representative so he/she can put
your name in for ac100 image testing.

For further questions, please talk to Kate or mail the ubuntu-release
list.

Hi,
Alpha 1 is scheduled[1] for next Thursday (December 19th), so its
time to figure out who'll be opting in to participate in this first
alpha for the new LTS. :-)

The page we'll be using for tracking participation is:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TrustyTahr/Alpha1.

Could each of the flavors representatives, please review the page,
and fill in the ?? and double check that the right contacts for this
release recorded? I'll be using this as the basis for setting up the
framework for the release notes, etc. on monday.

Thanks for your help with this,

Kate, on behalf of the Ubuntu Release team.
