I don't know about you but rebuilding DC's is not fun
stuff.
We have allot of users coming back to our central site and
we use the following config.
adapter #1 raid 1 ( 2 disk)
O/S
adapter #2 raid 1 ( 2 disk) AD
LOGS
adapter #3 === raid 5 (3 disk) with
global hot spare AD Data
the key to this using this is that all the equipment
expressly permitting the use
of e-mail for such purpose.

I have a vbsript that runs every night. I will share it next week (not at
work site). it does the following
gets the all computernames from the AD
one at a time
before loading it in the dictionary it ck to see if it is
already in the dictionary.
your best bet is to setup a proxy server and make the people you want to have
internet access a member of a group that gets allowed access to the proxy all

you could use Cisco's ACL with DHCP reservations. that way the pc always get
the same ip until you change the network card. You could also go into the
configuration of the network card and give the special people a specific MAC
and do the DHCP reservations that way

Title: RE: [ActiveDir] ADC question
Is
there a way to automate offline defrag on the AD. It is a real pain to do the MS article
way of defragging the NTDS.DIT. Does anybody know of a batch, vbs or
utility that does offline defrag of the AD
?
is
maintained automatically using built-in utilities anyway.

We are troubleshoot an issue with MS and they suggested we do this.
It appears that at a certain time

to reclaim space following a demerger in which many objects have . It's
not something you need to perform regularly as the NTDS.DIT is

Another note is that a DC is only a DC it should not under any
circumstances have any DATA that is critical on it.. If you need to
recover the server you need to follow the kb at MS about recovery of a
failed DC.

You can make a Global security group in the AD called Wins Admins and
then add the group to the local administrators group of the WINS servers
either manually or via a GPO. Then all you have to do is populate the
AD group with the users..
