generally speaking, a disk subsystem represents a low granular data store. Inspite of Raid and redundant power supplies, you still have a single point of failure, it can fail as a whole due to surge, firmeware or cabling error or due to anything alse. In this case you will loose all data.

I ran into a similar situation recently. We just recently upgraded to v5.1.x and had no knowledge of the Q PATH command. It appears that when drives go offline in v5.x due to a hardware problem their path can go offline as well. I corrected the problem by doing an update path command. Helpful

We run TSM on AIX 5.1, using Gresham to control a 9310 with 9840 and 9940 drives. To do the restore we used this devconfig file, and when the server requested a mount, used EDT to mount the volume in the correct tape drive. Just change the parameters to fit your environment. Hope this helps. /*
