All,
I am running TSM 5.1.8.0 on Solaris 8. My client is a Windows 2K server
(client version 5.2.0.1).
I have the node registered and it can perform manual backups without a
problem. However, when it comes time to run a scheduled backup I get the
following error:

Hi to all

Hello,
I am suddenly having trouble with a backup after it has been happily
chugging away for a number of years. Every night the TSM backup (4.1.2,
old I know) fails with this error in the dsmerror.log. This is running on
an NT4 server.

The error Message is correct. The problem is that the file USER.DAT is
part of Registry (HKEY_CURRENT_USER). when you start the client via user
(not as a service) then you will recive this message. I think that the
best is to put this file (and some others from the registry, paging space
and etc.)

the further symptoms specified for an outstanding defect which
can cause this.

Hi folks,
I4m having the following problem:
My TSM Server is a W2k (SP4).

Hi Marc,
In addition to Richards' usual words of great wisdom...
If you stop the 'server' process and restart TSM from a scrollable CMD
window..
cd to server directory

Hi Robert,
Try the -quiet option of the dsmadmc command.
It supresses the ANR2034E and
the ANS8001I messages.
Kind regards,

Do you still need to run 'cleanup backupgroups' utility if there is

My batch file look like:

I goofed and forgot to set DELETE BACKUPS = YES on a TDP SQL client (now
corrected)
So now, there are 1/2 Terrabyte of garbage SQL backups.
How do I get rid of them ?
I was hoping that EXPIRE INVENTORY would clear them out since I corrected
the setting, but it has not.
Oooops, you're absolutely right.
I only tested it with a query that
didn't produce output and not
with one that did.
Sorry about that.
You may consider using OS commands to
filter out the unwanted messages like
grep -v on UNIX.

for the TDP Oracle it has an executable namend TDPSYNC with the Parm SYNCDB
to eliminate garbage like this.
maybe it also exist for the SQL Agent?

Thanks for pointing this out.
Obviously, I need to spend more time keeping track of APARs...
Interesting note - although the APAR states clearly :
This situation will no longer be a problem in a future release.
A search of the 5.2.1.0 and 5.2.2.0 readme files for the storage agent does
Thanks for the suggestion.
However, from my understanding, MS-SQL TDP backup processing actually
uses/honors the ManagementClass values specified for the node, while
Oracle is a different animal and IT controls what is expired.

Zoltan,
Do you mean the TSM Server setting on the NODENAME
called BACKDELETE=YES? Even it is set to NO,
it will not keep your good backups from expiring.
The BACKDELETE=YES setting is only important for
cleaning up backups when there was a failure during
a backup and there are temporary objects
The message may be correct, but I am more concerned about the RC 12. There
is some other problem going on besides ANE4987E, because ANE4987E by
itself should not cause RC 12.

There is no option in the Admin client to suppress error messages. Some
alternatives:
1) Before running your current SELECT command, run a SELECT command with
the same criteria, but returning only a count of the number of records,
i.e.:
dsmadmc -id=myadmin -pa=x -dataonly=yes select
Why, how does dsmc process the domain list in the dsm.opt file? Curious.

Yes, that is the setting I was refering to (badly). When I checked the
node error logs, I saw the messages about the setting being set to NO.
We just don't understand why occupancy for this node is 1/2 terrabyte when

Oh well, back to digging for some
The order in which domains are processed is undocumented, as we did not
intend to provide a preferred sequence. If you wish to back up the file
systems in a particular sequence, here are some alternatives:
a) Use separate dsmc incremental commands, like this:
dsmc incremental /fs1
dsmc

For better or worse, an NFS-mounted file system is considered local and
so participates in the ALL-LOCAL: specifying that file system in addition
to ALL-LOCAL is redundant. You'll have to invoke the backup with file
systems specified as you want, either via Domain or on the command line.

Yeah, no prob, I ran into the nfs not being ALL-LOCAL a while back.

on the command line (so you can't run a cron job on OS X), we mount the
workspaces to linux
