Hi all,
I need advice with use of IBM3581 7-slot Autolader. As I know it is without
barcode reader (in my case), but I think it is optional. Is it possible to
use it as library in TSM (I mean mount any volume what I need) or does it
only work in sequential (cycle) mode? Does this autoloader have
Hi Tom,
Yes, the IBM3581 Autoloader is fully
compatible with TSM for use a library, with or without barcode reader -
I'm using two with a TSM server at the moment (although personally I'd
never spec less than a two drive library for use with TSM as tape management
can get rather more complicated

The current version of KVS can use DR550 as an archive, and heard a
rumour that the next release will archive to TSM. It's certainly
something we are waiting for.

We are looking for a creative solution (or answer) to a long outstanding
issue when it comes to SQL TDP backups.
We have a major M$-SQL shared server.
There is an HOURLY schedule to dump the transaction logs.
When the daily backups kick off, the hourly transaction log backups then
proceed to
Zoltan,
The way we do this (with Exchange), is to define a schedule for each
hour (we run our logs 8am-8pm). We then associate all our Exchange
servers with each schedule. It would be nice to have one schedule that
could be defined for a certain time period, but the TSM Scheduler is
pretty
Thanks for the suggestions. I thought about doing it this way, as well,
but what a pain, especially since I actually have two SQL servers doing
this !
Another thought I had was to setup an Administrative schedule that would
do an UPDATE SCHEDULE to disable the logs schedule just before the
Zoltan,
Assuming you associate both servers to each sched, you will only end up
with 10 log schedules, which isnt too bad, and it is a lot more
straightforward than disabling schedules behind the scenes.
A slightly more complicated scheme would be to build a command script
that runs a log backup

It would seem to be TSM's personal choice for a table which manages
thread information.
Our Exchange administrators use Veritas Kvault to archive - I use the
TSM online image backup to capture the data. It's worked well for us for
a good few years.
I've not used any other Exchange archive products.

We set the full backups at xx:00, then the logs on the half
hour, so far with success.

For some reason it spawns multiple sessions during the backup process.

Actually, I would need 20, assuming a 4-hour window for the backups, since
the log dumping would need to resume after the backups are finished !

Hi,
until November 2005 everything in my TSM world looked fine, until we needed
a restore of our exchange db:
We were not able to restore (had been tested in the past) what we needed.
The restore always ended with failures regarding the data on the tsm server.
I invoked IBM and we found, that

Hi,
we use LAN-Free backup for large DBs. Sometimes it happens that the
LAN-Free backup doesn't work and the backup goes the way over the LAN. I'm
looking for an easy and quick possibility (message?) to find out, when a
backup doesn't go over the preferred (LAN-free) way?
