Hi list, I need to perform a full backup from a MS Exchange Server using TDP for Exchange. However, I need to do it on a empty tape, outside the regular scheduled backup operations. Can I do this from the command line? Is there any parameter that I can use to specify that the data from this

Use a backup set. This creates a tape with data already stored in TSM which can be exported from the library and kept for as long as you wish. You don't even need TSM to restore the data from the backup set you create, only the client software is needed and someway to read the tape. We do this to

If there's a disk pool in the chain, migrate it to tape. Update all tapes in the storage pool with a filling status to an access of readonly. Run the exchange backup. Check the resulting tape out of the library. You now have a tape with nothing on it but the Exchnage backup; it may be used

A backupset should do that well. What is it you want that a backupset will not do? Not clear to me. It takes all the Active Data for a client and writes it out to whatever device class you specify. It is a database operation though, not an actual up to the minute client backup. It makes a set

Since you are going to send this tape away, I suggest you do the backup to your regular pool. Then create an EXPORT tape of that Exchange client. If you specify the FROMDATE/FROMTIME parms, you can make sure you only get the latest data on that tape. The tape can be sent away and won't cause

Hi, are you exporting to server or tape? q progess should give you some more information than that (bytes transferred, input volume, number of files) when exporting to server. If this information is missing, your export might have some problems. Check q act if there are problems. Michael On

Tapes are written in different formats on different platforms, so the answer to your question is no. You would have to export all of the data from Windows and import to AIX, not just the database. No, I'm not from development, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night! ..Paul At
