Thanks for all the thoughts! The 'register node' and 'update node' commands have a 'sessioninitiation' parameter. The default value, 'clientorserver', would be needed for the backup arrangement you describe for clients outside the firewall. The other possible value, 'serveronly', would cause

I am not familiar with that particular product, but I would either talk to whoever manages it or the vendor themselves. The ones I have used have verbose logging so it's pretty easy to determine if it is the problem. Configuring them is very similar to a firewall. In our operation we have it

Just remember, there are 2 ways of backing up through a firewall. - The insecure way, where you open incoming ports to the TSM Servers TCPPORT setting, and perform backups in polling mode. If the client was compromised, it would have access to all the backups, and conceivably the TSM server. -

I call them stuck filling tapes, and have a script that runs every day that keeps them under control. Any filling tape that hasn't been written to in 6 days gets a movedata run on it. Also, it also occurs on file pool volumes. We're on tsm server v5.5.2, and v5.5.5 on our dedicated library

Now that we know this is a de-duped storage pool, you need to know that before TSM will reclaim a de-duped volume, it has to be completely backed up to a copy pool. David -Original Message- From: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU] On Behalf Of Tim Brown Sent:

TSM 6.3 node replication

Hi, I'm keen to make use of the new features in TSM 6.3, one of which is node replication. However, the client I'm working with has limited bandwidth between datacenters and there is no way that 4TB of change a day is going to be copied across the link even if it is deduplicated. Is there a
