Hello,
you are hit by the 0 byte password bug...
Your encrypted password is stored in a file. If the encrypted password
contains a 0 byte than some TSM clients are not able to handle this.
This bug is fixed in the newer clients.

Burak,
As far as I understand it, the reclamation of offsite copy pool carts is not
a DRM function, reclamation is a standard part of TSM where a new tape is
produced locally that consolidates the carts offsite that are partly full.
The thing that DRM does for you is to manage the movement of
nice configuration,
but there is a point with unprotected disks to be tested:
I used this configuration under NT4 and tried to pull out one of the
unprotected disks out.
While this would probably cause no harm to TSM,
the operating system itself froze completly (for hours, so not an I/O
time-out

Hi,
we have to create 1 tape, containing exported data from 2 different nodes.
For each node we need only one of the file spaces.
Let say we want fsid 1 from node_1 and fsid 12 from node_2
I tried
export node node_1,node_2 fsid=1,12 filedata=backupactive
devclass=class_name
It seems that
So you mean that FILLING carts can be reclaimed when they are offsite?

Hi.
Try move data when the backup volume is stiil out of the lib.
I didn't try that, but I think it should use the original copy of files same
as with reclaimation.

Yes, as far as I understand it.
TSM knows what files are on each tape offsite. When expiration is run, some
of those datasets become obsolete, so the space on the tape becomes free.
When you run reclamation on the copy storage pool with a certain % value,
TSM actually uses the primary storage
... I rather NOT use RAID-5 for TSM disk pool volumes... Why pay the penalty

Hi everybody,
My question is simple. We are running selective backup

For bigger files I get a 52 GByte/hour. And I think

Quick answer - only one big volume.
OK. I will start my thoughts on the subject with single drive example.
Which is better for single drive - one volume occupying the whole disk or
several files/raw devices defined as DISK volumes? Remember: disk devclass

I'm curious if anyone feels that the new AIXDIRECTIO option in TSM 5.1
affects their opinions about how to utilize disk for storage pools. TSM
5.1 also has an Async I/O option (AIX). For more info, refer to

Juraj, I completely agree with you. But this is argument against RAID 5.
The question is: if we accept presence of RAID 5 as a fact how to proceed
further.
Read-before-write penalty can be mitigated by tuning blocksize. OTOH TSM
is using big writes and this should not pose so big problem for
Yes. I have used this a lot and that is the way it works. Offsite tapes
do not have to be FULL to be reclaimed.

I agree with what Zlatko and Juraj are saying. I just want to add that in
disk subsystems such as ESS that do use RAID5 a lot of care has gone into
the introduction of cache destaging algorithms that mitigate the write
penalty. that is, writes are held in cache until they can be destaged
