New NTIA NOFO: $420M for open radio commercialization and innovation
I wish I had gone to the 802.11wg more regularly than I did. I only
gave one bloat related presentation in 2014, shipped the
make-wifi-fast code in 2016(?), and never went back. IETF ate all my
money and time. I just assumed they were all in the slipstream of
linux and openwrt. :/
I did have a
I did my usual bufferbloat rap on this pretty excellent podcast. What
I am most proud of however,
was showing off my mom´s art in this segment here, including her most
powerful piece "Sad Sam".

I am curious if anyone here is at scale this week? (it is in pasadena, and
one of my favorite conferences - https://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/21x )
One of our core bufferbloat contributors (david lang) used to fq_codel the
wifi there and they built custom boxes to manage the wifi in general
Looks like a useful experiment.

I keep trying to connect ISPs and developers to finish making openwisp
usable, by at least
gathering together existing UISP and other cloud management software
users to complain about their pain points to the core openwisp devs.
Tomorrow, there is this.

Now, at least one of these was supposed to be open source, but I do
not know how things devolved... Anyone know how these 6 databases are
supposed to interoperate?

It is still not well understood that wifi performance is dragged down
by the performance of the most distant and demanding device, despite
what I hope is wide knowledge of the wifi performance anomaly (
https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/1208921 ) and the related work in
"Ending the anomaly".
What amazes me is that it took so long for this to start happening in
the first place.

i so wish more of what I discussed 8 years ago, had made it to the
chipmakers. Minstrel-blues, in the end, didn't work out, but seemed so
promising (coupled rate and power control).

In retrospect, a lot of this project was fun, and seeing the results

the years to come. But

The FCC long ago outsourced their tests to other companies.
It would be a real eye opener for many to learn, what it really takes
to test wifi well.
