[CentOS] KVM virt-install: import guest

2023-01-31 Thread Helmut Drodofsky

Hello All,

Host: CentOS 9, guest: CentOS 8, 1 network interface with public ip.

While importing guest, network configuration will be destroyed:
connection: device and gateway are purged.

Both: virt-manager gui and cli example:

virt-install --import --os-variant none --virt-type kvm --name xx
--memory 2048 --vcpus 2 --disk ./xx.qcow2

How can this behavior suppressed?

migrated or moved? I move vm from C6 to C7 without any problem, C5

- copy disk files (rsync or scp)
- create in virtual manager

[CentOS] KVM Random Reboots AMD EPYC Server

2020-01-01 Thread Helmut Drodofsky
our new Server with AMD EPYC and super micro board reboots ramdonly.
There is no error message before the reboot in /var/log/messages.

we are running 2 Server with VMWare workstation without any problem.

The new server should run KVM.

older servers with AMD (before EPYC) running KVM without any problem.

any idea or recommendation?

Re: [CentOS] update CentOS 7 at Nov 05 2019

2019-12-02 Thread Helmut Drodofsky
the logs I have found where mentioned in the before message.

I found the surprising time idendity between yum update and the stop of
logging.

All other logfiles seem OK. e.g. wtmp.

rsyslog.conf is OK and same as in comparable servers.

The time gap (some 2 weeks) between loss of log content and permanent
rebooting of the server reminds me of virus behavior.

Re: [CentOS] CLAMD and EXIM - anyone got it working`

2019-12-01 Thread Helmut Drodofsky
we are running exim with clamd on centos 7.6.

Installation from repo epel (exim and clamd).

The access rights will not be OK out of the box.

The connection between exim and clamd is configred in the exim.conf:
av_scanner = clamd:/run/clamd.scan/clamd.sock

Depending on our security policy I would recommend to use differend
users for
- clamd database : owner = clamupdate: to be configured in freshclam.conf
- scan activities: owner clamscan: to be configured in clamd.conf

each update, each reboot destroy the access rights to the socket and the
database.

[CentOS] amanda broken pipe

Hello,

we are using amanda for backup with 2 tape libraries. Last days we made

CentOS Linux release 7.6.1810 (Core)

Includes from base repository:

deleted: version 3.3.3-17

Before the update (= version 3.3.3-17) we run to configs in parallel
without any problem.

After the update: the first startet config: OK
The second started config: broken pipe. The information in the amanda Mail:

.
The next 3 tapes Amanda expects to use are: am503, am518, am519.
The next 2 new tapes already labelled are: am511, am514
FAILURE DUMP SUMMARY:

Same problem with amcheck if one amanda config is running:

Any ideas or have I to go back to former version?

Re: [CentOS] [SOLVED] persistent generic device for tape changer

2019-02-12 Thread Helmut Drodofsky
Good evening,

my final solution:
SUBSYSTEM=="scsi_generic", SUBSYSTEMS=="scsi", ATTRS{type}=="8",
ATTRS{model}=="MAGNUM 224  ", IMPORT{program}="scsi_id
--sg-version=3 --export --whitelisted -d $devnode", \
   SYMLINK+="changer0"

SUBSYSTEM=="scsi_generic", SUBSYSTEMS=="scsi", ATTRS{type}=="8",
ATTRS{model}=="FlexStor II ", ATTRS{rev}=="5.11",
IMPORT{program}="scsi_id --sg-version=3 --export --whitelisted -d
$devnode", \
   SYMLINK+="changer1"

SUBSYSTEM=="scsi_generic", SUBSYSTEMS=="scsi", ATTRS{type}=="8",
ATTRS{model}=="FlexStor II ", ATTRS{rev}=="5.50",
IMPORT{program}="scsi_id --sg-version=3 --export --whitelisted -d
$devnode", \
   SYMLINK+="changer2"

Very helpful:

/dev/sch0, /dev/sch1, /dev/sch2 are persistent devices - but not generic
devices.

udevadm info -a /dev/sch0
shows all possible attributes in the udev rules key format.

[CentOS] persistent generic device for tape changer

2019-02-07 Thread Helmut Drodofsky
Hello,

mtx and therefor amanda use generic device /dev/sg for tape changer.

These devices change on reboot.

How to make them persistent?

/dev/sch0 and /dev/sch1 seem to be persistent.

/dev/tape/by-id/ shows links from WWID to generic device

An UDEV rule could help? I have not found any example.

[CentOS] XFS, NVMe

2018-12-10 Thread Helmut Drodofsky
For me it's a new problem. I have never had problems like this:

kernel:XFS: mysqld(112843) possible memory allocation deadlock size
65552 in kmem_realloc (mode:0x250)

My first server with soft raid1 and NVMee. CentOS 7.5. Are there special
recommendations for configuring XFS with NVMe's?

[CentOS] yum update gitlab-ci-multi-runner

2018-01-25 Thread Helmut Drodofsky

I'm doing
yum update
in CentOS 7 since some 10 hours.

Last terminal message is:
Updating   : gitlab-ci-multi-runner-9.5.1-1.x86_64

ps aux:
root 15296  0.3  2.5 1554608 204988 pts/0  S+   06:23   2:01
/usr/bin/python /bin/yum update

to kill yum is not a good idea. Alternative?

for what is yum waiting? can I stop an application process?

systemctl stop gitlab-runner does not help, same with giltlab-ctl stop

Hello,

our server uses 1 GBit Nic and 10 GBit SPF+ NIC.

When both nics are configured ONBOOT=yes, then both nics are OK.

Wen 1GBit nic is ONBOOT=no, netwerk does not come up.

Missing driver? What else?

I wonder if this is the issue? Not sure what I can or how I can test.

Yeah, it might be worth removing the package and reinstalling it. You

Re: [CentOS] openvpn + routing

2015-12-08 Thread Helmut Drodofsky

default route normally is

0.0.0.0/0

to overwrite default you can
- erase the existing an add the new one: this change is to do vice
versa: an start up and shut down; so you need an installation dependend
information about the default Gateway.

Alternativly you can add two routes:
0.0.0.0 netmask 128.0.0.0 and
128.0.0.0 netmask 128.0.0.0

then you have routes, that overwrites the existing default. You have
only to add this specific routes on openvpn up and delete on openvpn down.

According to my experience, the text should be changed to:

rule according to this example:
SUBSYSTEM==net, ACTION==add, DRIVERS==?*,
ATTR{address}==00:00:00:00:00:00, ATTR{type}==1, KERNEL==eth0,
NAME=eth0

where ATTR{adress} is the HWADDR of the network interface.

Static assignment: GATEWAY has to be configured in /etc/sysconfig/network

There doesn't seem to be much documentation on this subject on the web

[CentOS] port for rpc.statd occupied rsync port

2013-07-12 Thread Helmut Drodofsky
Hello,

booting starts /etc/init.d/nfslock. today, rpc.statd used port 873.

later starting xinetd finds port used and disabled rsync daemon.

So its more or less a lucky break, to boot CentOS and have rsync running?

In /etc/rc3.d is
S14nfslock
S56xinetd

so by design xinetd starts always after nfslock

kernel 2.6.18-308.13.1.el5 : all is OK
kernel 2.6.18-308.16.1.el5 : the first recent statement causes an error.
E.g.:
iptables -A INPUT -m state --state NEW -m recent --set -p tcp --dport 80
iptables: Unknown error 18446744073709551615

[CentOS] iptables: hitcount

2012-06-11 Thread Helmut Drodofsky
Hello,

up to CentOS 5.3 it was possible, to control new ip connections by
recent, seconds and hitcount

-A INPUT -m state --state NEW -m recent --set -p tcp --dport 80
-A INPUT -m state --state NEW -m recent --update --seconds 60 --hitcount
1000 -p tcp --dport 80 -j LOG --log-prefix FW DROP IP Flood:
-A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 80 -m state --state NEW -m recent
--update --seconds 60 --hitcount 1000 -j DROP
-A INPUT -p tcp -m state --state NEW -m tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT

so that
- short time high new connections rate for the web server where
accepted, but not over a longer time.

E.g. CentOS 5.8 or CentOS 6.2 accept only

-A INPUT -m state --state NEW -m recent --set -p tcp --dport 80
-A INPUT -m state --state NEW -m recent --update --seconds 1 --hitcount
15 -p tcp --dport 80 -j LOG --log-prefix FW DROP IP Flood:
-A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 80 -m state --state NEW -m recent
--update --seconds 1 --hitcount 15 -j DROP
-A INPUT -p tcp -m state --state NEW -m tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT

So a complex web page with many small icons e.g. webmail pages initiate
the log in line 2 and drop in line 3 .

hitcount does not accept values of 25 or above:

[root@server ~]# iptables -A INPUT -m state --state NEW -m recent --set
-p tcp --dport 80
[root@server~]# iptables -A INPUT -m state --state NEW -m recent
--update --seconds 1 --hitcount 25 -p tcp --dport 80 -j LOG --log-prefix
FW DROP IP Flood:
iptables: Unknown error 4294967295

what can i do to protect the web server? Is there any any configuration
parameter to increase the values for hitcount?

Best regards Helmut Drodofsky

[CentOS] IPSEC How To?

My goal:

mobile cell with Linux, Windows 7, Mac, iPhone or Android

Is there any how to in the net?

When I read

then I belive, there is no solution. It is written, that I have to
reconfigure the NAT router of the mobile provider or the hardware NAT
router of the private dsl uplink.

Both is impossible.

 Good morning all,

[CentOS] UUID for network cards

2011-12-14 Thread Helmut Drodofsky
Hello,

with CentOS 6, my new server created an UUID entry in ifcfg-eth0 -
additional to HWADDR entry.

Up to CentOS 5 the connection to the netwark card was defind only by HWADDR.

Now I have a new network card. How can I get the correct UUID?

The server connects correct the network with the updated HWADDR without
any UUID. Why do I need an UUID?

Thank you for help in advance.

Hello,

Thanks for your answer. Thing is, I will install plesk on this server and what
i imagined was to make document root for vhosts to be on different drive. On
one of servers, i made vhost.conf file and changed document root, and later had
problems with cgi-bin folder etc.

Thought like, since changing document root with plesk is kinda pain for my
experience, what can i configure to have my websites, and later added domains
run with no problem?

Linux is installed on sda 120 gb ssd disk, raid one drive ready to be mounted
at /dev/md0 3 tb free disk.

I used rsync and diff game me like 10+ output.

well as long /var is containing /var/lib and /var/cache than more
applications / services are running more possible changes you will get
 while the sync is running

i would boot the machine with a live-cd and finalize these changes
there on the other hand i would NOT move the whole /var to an own
 partition

normally /var/cache and /var/log two own partitions or if it is a
virtual machine in two different virtual disks should be enough to
prevent fill the root-fs and the different disks makes it much easier
 resize/replace them if needed

[CentOS] CentOS 6 IPv6: neighbor and restart network

2011-08-30 Thread Helmut Drodofsky
Hallo,

for using the ipv6 neighbor functions, I have to execute commands like
ip -6 neigh add proxy 2001::211:d8ff:fe97:3273 dev eth0
to publish the ip of computers in the subnet.

To execute them on reboot, I have included these commands in /etc/rc.d/rc.local

Also after each restart of the network, I have to execute these commands too.

So: how can I always execute

/etc/rc.d/rc.local

after

service network restart

My idea:
Is it possible to rename /etc/network to /etc/network_original and to create a
new shell script /etc/network to execute both?

Other/better advice?

Thank you for help in advance.

[CentOS] CentOS 6 and IPv6 neighbor proxy

2011-08-18 Thread Helmut Drodofsky
To route a subnet in ipv6 there are two possibilities:
- add route commands for the subnet in each computer
- or use neighbor proxy in the router server
I prefer neighbor proxy.

So I have to activate neighbor proxy in the router:
sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.all.proxy_ndp=1

and I have to add entries for each client in the subnet like
ip -6 neigh add proxy 2001:0:0:1:211:d8ff:fe97:3273 dev eth0

This works well but is lost on reboot.

For the sysctl command there is /etc/sysctl.conf for permanent configuration.

If I create a file route-eth0 in the directory /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/
with the above ip neighbor command, the interface eth0 is immediately down.

Restart of network brings:
Bringing up interface eth0: Error: Unknown connection:
5fb06bd0-0bb0-7ffb-45f1-d6edd65f3e03.
   [FAILED]
All Interfaces are NetworkManager controlled.

Ask for help:
- where can I store the command for a permanent configuration?
- Shall I not further use NetworkManager?

Thank you for help in advance

[CentOS] How To for IPV6

2011-08-11 Thread Helmut Drodofsky
Hi,

I try to set up
- A centos 6 firewall
- With proxy-arp (I know: arp is not supported in ipv6)
with ipv6.

Arp does not exist for ipv6. So I have added:
sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.default.proxy_ndp=1
To use the neighbor proxy facility.

How to activate ipv6 forwarding? As far as I have found, this changed in RHEL6
from 6.1 (/etc/sysconfig/network) to 6.2 (/etc/sysctl.conf). CentOS 6?
So I have used
sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.all.forwarding=1 as in RHEL 6.2

As in ipv4 I would prefer to proxy the clients behind the firewall.

eth0 is WAN, eth1 is LAN.

I have read to use
ip -6 neigh add proxy ipv6 address of eth1 dev eth0
but
ip -6 neigh show
shows nothing.

Then I have tried
Ip -6 neigh add proxy ipv6 address of client dev eth0
Same result.

Is there any How To for ipv6 routing and proxying for CentOS?

Best regards
Helmut

Re: [CentOS] [solved] CentOS 6.0 and freenx

2011-08-05 Thread Helmut Drodofsky
- I have reinstalled CentOS 6 and then installed
freenx-0.7.3-7.el6.ay.x86_64.rpm and nx-3.4.0-7.el6.ay.x86_64.rpm. This works
fine.

So I think the reason for the problem was the before installed freenx and nx
from atrpms. The rpms are from November 2010. There is no hint, that they are
bleeding or something else. See http://packages.atrpms.net/dist/el6/nx/ and
http://packages.atrpms.net/dist/el6/freenx/

Best would be, they purge these files.

[CentOS] centos 5.5: iptables: module recent

2011-01-27 Thread Helmut Drodofsky
Hello,

I have well performing iptables in centos 5.2 and 5.3 :
-A INPUT -m state --state NEW -m recent --update --seconds 60 --hitcount 1000
-p tcp --dport 25 -j LOG --log-prefix FW DROP IP Flood:

Centos 5.5, updated today:

Without -hitcount : iptables accept the line
Including -hitcount : iptables brings an error message:
Applying iptables firewall rules: iptables-restore: line 47 failed
  [FAILED]
The Line Number is always the number of the COMMIT statement. Not the line
number of the statement with the recent module. So I think, iptables is missing
something, What?

When I add the line interactive, the result is
[root@host sysconfig]# iptables -A INPUT -m state --state NEW -m recent
--update --seconds 60 --hitcount 1000 -p tcp --dport 25 -j LOG --log-prefix FW
DROP IP Flood:
iptables: Unknown error 18446744073709551615

The man page describes the parameter:
   [!] --seconds seconds
This option must be used in conjunction with one of --rcheck or
--update. When used, this will narrow the match to only happen when the address
is in
the list and was seen within the last given number of seconds.

   [!] --hitcount hits
This option must be used in conjunction with one of --rcheck or
--update. When used, this will narrow the match to only happen when the address
is in
the list and packets had been received greater than or equal to
the given value. This option may be used along with --seconds to create an even
 nar-
rower match requiring a certain number of hits within a specific
time frame.

Without -hitcount the rule is worthless.

Suggestions?

Many Thanks

Why? Are you wanting it as a VMware host or guest? As the kernels are
basically identical in terms of the version string, the VMware kernel modules,
for VMware Server or Workstation as a host, and VMware tools as a guest, should
load without a recompile.

I'm running a number of CentOS 5.5 guests on VMware ESX 3.5U5 with no issue.

Which VMware is this, type and version, please?

[CentOS] filesize limitation in CentOS or exim?

2009-06-30 Thread Helmut Drodofsky
Hallo,

today I had a surprising situation. Exim stopped. It's a German centos 5.3 64
Bit installation so the messages are partial in German.

Then I tried a restart:

[r...@centos ~]# service exim restart

exim beenden: [FEHLGESCHLAGEN]

exim starten: /bin/bash: line 1: 6596 Die maximale Dateigröße ist
überschritten /usr/sbin/exim -bd -q30m

   [FEHLGESCHLAGEN]

Reducing the size of /var/log/exim/main.log has solved the Problem.

I presume it is a message of CentOS, not from exim. Is this correct?

I think, max filesize in CentOS is 2 TB? See http://www.centos.org/product.html
in Filesystem.

Where can I change it?

Best regards

Oh my! Did you verify the size of the main.log file? 2TB of mail.log
data strikes me as too much. Are you rotating your logs? Is there a
lot of spam moving through your system?

Assuming you are running this on an ext3 filesystem you cannot increase
the maximum file size beyodn 2TB. If you really do need bigger files
than that then you should think about XFS or ext4. Exim does not have a
max supported log size... at least I could not find it in the docs and
I've never had that problem when running exim.

Can you double check the size of mail.log and that is being rotated?

I am trying to migrate one of our fedora-based servers to CentOS. Our PHP

php packages:
php-smarty
php-adodb
php-accelerator
It is not acceptable for us to download sources and compile them and repeat the
process each time there is a security bug.
Can you recommend any repository which will deliver all the above packages (and
many others) ?
