  Running Maverick-Linux-in-Live-mode.
Opened mozilla-firefox 3.6 and launched About to verify any upgrades
available.
Also, opened multiple tabs while reading Mozilla.org documentation.
Downloaded '.tar.gz' archive of browser v8.0.1.
Comparing the '.ini' and '.xml' files to see whats new in the upgraded
version, using gedit.
While just trying to paste the upgraded-version-of-browser to replace the one
installed by OS by default in Live-Mode.
Also, a window is kept open for accessing a shared-folder on intranet.

gedit assert failure: *** glibc detected *** gedit: free(): invalid
  pointer: 0xb6d02118 ***

Status in Light-Weight Text Editor for Gnome:
  New
Status in “gedit” package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:

  Thanks,
  K Chandrasekhar Omkar.
