Here's a quick and dirty patch that's given me basic sound from
my Gateway M675 notebook (Sigmatel 9758 AC97 codec).
Disclaimers:

they may be connected differently.
2) Plugging in headphones or external speakers doesn't turn off

Hi All,
Is anybody working on ALSA testsuite?
__or_ just testing it through available alsa-utils is enough.
I like to develop some tests, which will test ALSA Driver on my x86 machine and then really want to move it to ARM target, again here the driver will be different as expacted.
I will

Here is one more mail related to the problem. He uses a 2496 card, too:

Hi folks,
for months now I have big problems getting surround sound to work with my
Aureon Sky 5.1 and hope someone on this list can and is willing to help me, now.
I would like to put all of the collected information and tips on the alsa wiki
afterwards.
That's what I did so far:

Hi all
I have been trying cinelerra 1.1.9 in OSS mode against the OSS emulation
driver (snd-pcm-oss) from ALSA driver 1.0.2c. Whenever anything is done to
start audio playback (such as playing a video clip) the ALSA driver panics
with a divide by zero error. The decoded oops is found below.
