IT WAS A HYPHEN VERSUS UNDERSCORE SYNTAX ISSUE!

my ./configure options were:

                ./configure --with-cards=hda_intel,hrtimer,aloop
--with-sequencer=yes

                      BUT THEY NEEDED TO BE:

               ./configure --with-cards=hda-intel,hrtimer,aloop
--with-sequencer=yes

At a glance — the whole configure code equivocates between hyphens and
underscores a lot; that should probably be addressed.

Also, it would help if the configure script checked for existence of the
sub-options to "--with-cards=", and prevent non-existing card options, such as
what I initially gave ("hda_intel")... right now it just silently ignores a bad
option.

So, with the correction, alsa compiled and install my snd-hda-intel.ko

( /lib/modules/2.6.32-45-generic/kernel/sound/pci/hda/snd-hda-intel.ko )

I rebooted and have sound. Pulse working, and so is jack. as they did before,
AFAICT.

I may post back with a different topic, about the "aloop" device. Which is why
I tried to upgrade alsa in the first place.
