Hi,
The Nuforce DAC-9 uses a rebranded USB input chip and I was unable to obtain
any technical information about it from their support.
Comparing dmesg logs with my other DAC, it might be a Tenor TE8802 but that's
me guessing. I'm reffering to this line both DACs produce: [ 4.969723] usb 5-

I have tried the DAC on two distros, Ubuntu 12.04.1 and Mageia 2 (both use
Alsa 1.0.25) but it only works in Ubuntu. Mageia displays the name of the DAC
in dmesg, but it is not visible in /proc/asound/cards so it can't be used.
There is no information about that in the alsa-info

Hi,
I've spent a bit of time trying to figure out how to capture the
output of my main sound card and make it available as a capture
device.
To this I'm loading the snd-aloop module to make the hw:Loopback
device available and then I'm using the following .asoundrc
configuration file

In theory, there should at least another subdevice for the S/PDIF input

Hi,
I found some discussions online
(http://www.xcore.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8t=1719) which suggest
that it might be useful to disable the mixer, though this post relates
to a different sound card/slightly different problem. But it would
also fit to the last sentence of your answer.
I am using a USB DAC (HRT Music Streamer II) which operates in asynchronous
mode. It works perfectly at sample rates up to 48 kHz. When I go to 88.2 or
96, it works perfectly sometimes. Most of the time I get ticks. When it
starts playing without ticks, it will continue to play without
