If you're running JACK this could be an alternative: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/7890/jack_tools/master/example-clients/tty.c using this library for Arduino: https://github.com/FortySevenEffects/arduino_midi_library/ I don't know how tty.c differs from ttyMIDI, you have to try what fits best your case. How can I persuade ALSA to treat it as a MIDI source (and possibly destination).
