Most of them were involved in house-to-house campaigns and helped to organise ceramah during the recent by-election, where the voters cast their ballots on Saturday. Higher Education Minster and Jeli MP Datuk Mustapa Mohamed said action would be taken against them after sufficient evidence is gathered. He said the undergraduates were from several universities in the Klang Valley. A special committee, comprising vice-chancellors in charge of studentsÂ’ affairs from various universities, is carrying out the probe. Mustapa said the students were aware that they were barred from taking part in politics under the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971. "We are gathering information from the team of observers sent to monitor student involvement. "Once investigations are completed, the committee will evaluate the cases and decide on disciplinary action that can be meted out," he said, adding that the most severe punishment would be expulsion. Speaking after launching an English course for teachers from Jeli, Mustapa said undergraduates should focus on completing their studies instead of dabbling in politics. He also advised political parties not to take advantage of students, and use them for campaign activities. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
