Greetings; I saw 2.6.2alpha-20090417 was up tonight so I grabbed it, unpacked it as usual, copied my gh.cf into the tree and ran it, then went to go take care of some laundry.
When I returned, probably 20 minutes later, I found my machine 99.999% locked up, as in the bottom of the window task bars clock was stopped. Then I tried to switch windows to the one kmail was running on, and 5 minutes later I noted the clock was being updated something like once in a minute and it still had drawn only the outline of the kmail screen. I spent 10+ minutes trying to get to the htop screen, which was another tab on the same shell the compile was running on. I made some notes as to where the compile was, and gave X the vulcan nerve pinch. It promptly quit to my surprise. So I restarted it and here I am. I have not rebooted. This is 2.6.30-rc2, uptime is 2d 9:15. The compile died, literally in the middle of echoing the next command to the screen, after apparently building .libs/simpleprng.o. The next line echoed to the screen stopped at -fno-strict-a, in the middle of the word alias I believe. With X running again, I'm going to save this as draft & restart the build from a make clean to see if its repeatable. And it is not repeatable, 2nd time was a charm I guess. And amcheck seems to be happy, so we'll see how it runs tonight. Color me slightly puzzled as 2.6.30-rc2 has so far been bulletproof. And we all know what that thumping sound is... Me, knocking on my wooden skull. :) -- Cheers, Gene "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo.
